Mine has over counted this morning by 3,000. I was awake, up and moving for maybe 10 minutes and i saw my step count was already over 3,000. No way is that possible. I didn't sleep with it on either. No idea what is going on or how to fix it
Thanks for the reply.
I tested mine this last night. Went up and down the flight of stairs at my house 5 times. It only logged 3. I'm sad I got a new fitbit, should have stayed with my old version.
So far there have not been offered any solutions to their step count issues. It appears that many Versas are having errors in their pedometer count; both plus and minus.
The standard FitBit moderator answers include don't leave it:
Oddly, for FitBits that aren't counting steps, their answers are basically: you are not swinging your arm enough; go for the goose step baby!
There have been other threads inquiring about a fix, and asking if it is hardware or software.
There is no answer to your question at this time, but here are a few things to try that have worked for some.
Things to try include
Some of these work for some people, but there is not consensus at this time about which works best, most, or reliably.

There is an article for turning off devices.
Here is the link.
Versa and Ionic have the same procedure.
Versa App > Settings > Shutdown > Confirm
to turn back on, press any button.
===========================================
Reset device:
press bottom right button, and single left button till FitBit logo appears. (takes a few moments)
Good luck.
I wish I had an answer for you, but as of yet, FitBit is being fairly deliberately obtuse regarding this CORE FUNCTIONALITY problem.
I have roughly the same problem. My Versa is low 10-20% compared to Pacer on my iPhone. My phone is in my pants pocket so it registers my legs swinging, where the Versa measures my arms swinging, at least it seems that way. It measures steps when I’m lifting weights and doesn’t when I’m carrying stuff in my arms. Maybe a software update is in order.

That's one thing I haven't liked about the Fitbit. I'm not always swinging my arms around at all times while moving. Grocery shopping for example with my arms/hands on a grocery cart, it counts virtually none of my steps.
Best AnswerHaving GPS (like on your phone) probably helps a lot to determine you're actually moving.
Best AnswerThis is it exactly! The tracking algorithms are counting arm swinging and changes in altitude .
Try standing still and swinging your arms vs walking with your arms held still .
Best AnswerI've had my Versa for 10 days and the stair count is over counting. I am very suspicious of my high step counts as well. I believe the 2 are related.
Support has suggested the restarts off-on etc to me as well for stairs with no good effect. But they have now released articles on why stair counts are high. It's a result of a more sensitive altimeter that records weather and wind related barometric pressure changes as false stairs. I suspect this hardware or some combination of this and other sensors and algorithms impact steps as well. I don't think the issues are independent.
While Fitbut has acknowledged the stairs issue it has not acknowledged the steps. Has anyone heard more than the resets as a reason from the steps errors?
Its also harder for users to see step errors than stair issues unless it's after sleeping. Unless you customize your step mength and complete a known distance,or complete a walk with someone with a competing tracker, how do you know?
I suggest everyone record their issues with Support. Fitbit only scans their forums but will fully record complaint data and forward these complaint volumes by type to management for action.
Best AnswerMine isn't either. Bought it brand new on Saturday & can see when I look on my app when I swapped from my charge2 to the versa I'm down about 4k steps a day! I walk & check it & still stuck on what it was prior to the walk & doesn't update a while later like a delay! I'm fuming! £200 wasted!

Don't give up. Do the on off several times as suggested.

Well, I’m still getting anywhere from 5-20% less steps on my Versa compared to the Pacer app on my iPhone. Unless you’re vigorously swinging your arms, the Versa just doesn’t register. And carrying things around doesn’t register either. But there are quite a few things that the Versa and Fitbit app do do, (I don’t know how well) that Pacer doesn’t do at all, like sleep, water intake and diet tracking.

Best AnswerI'm having the same issue. I woke up today and I was already at 5,000 steps and just a few days ago it said I was at 32,000 steps.
