Versa registering extra steps

Accidentally marked as solved, but it is NOT!

I work as a sitting cashier. My Versa says I have 15,629 steps so far today, but I only have 3299 steps according to my Fitbit One.  (My Versa is new, and since I noticed earlier this week how quickly steps were adding up on the Versa, I am also wearing my Fitbit One temporarily.)  I just finished changing my Activity to "Driving" (it will not accept "Cashiering") for the six hours I was at work today, but it lowered my steps on both devices to 1528, which is too low.  Any suggestions?

I woke up and had put 15000 steps on before I even put my Versa on my wrist this morning ! I have tried entering drive time for the entire day and still have 15k steps and no where in my daily log does it show I put on that many either

I'm not understanding why my fit bit is logging way more steps than I am actually doing

IT is registering steps fine when I’m walking . It is randomly adding 4000 steps when I am sitting and not moving . I have even tried taking it off and leaving it sit and it’s still adding thousands of steps all morning . It seems to stop in the afternoon and evening . It adds over 4000 steps a morning while I am sitting in my office on conference calls .

@Lilly338 Welcome! It's nice to have you on board! You mention that you aren't moving in the morning but your Versa is counting steps. This changes in the afternoon and evening but the difference with the morning is that you have several conference calls. This information helps a lot. You see the the Versa uses its accelerometer to detect movement which it will translate to steps. Now there are situations in which the movement won't mean that you are walking for example when playing drums or clapping steps most likely will be counted. Now when talking over the phone it is common to use your hands and make gestures (or having presentations in a meeting) and I thing this may be the reason you have all these additional steps. You can manually log a driving activity to negate the steps counted by these activities. You can also try wearing your Versa on your non dominant hand so it isn't subjected to too much movement.

@Angnjon would this also apply to your situation? Hopefully it will help you too and you can use the same procedure to log a driving activity to negate steps.

Let me know how it goes!

We should not have to negate 15 min every hour since I travel for weeks to AND never had to do this with my HR I used to

I am having the same issue. Why should we have to manually change anything. I have apparently done 38,000 steps today. It is also affecting my fitnesspal. This morning I woke up to 6000 steps added whilst it was on charge. So frustrating!

Woke up today with 7,932 steps added at 3:30 in the morning. One day last week I had over 66k steps added at midnight. So frustrating.
