Versa screen doesn't display anything

I just got a replacement Fitbit Versa and I finally got it paired with my Pixel 2XL. So, now the Versa is up and running in the app but the Versa screen doesn't display anything but the Fitbit diamond shaped logo. Figuring I might need to add a clock face (although I didn't need to do this with my old Versa), I went to the clock faces. When I click on any of them, there is a message saying "This clock face is not available for your device." Ummmm, I've used several of them before with my old Versa so I know they can be used. So,  I searched and found these instructions.

They did not work. I'm at a loss. Please help!!

Hi, @CiaoLN! If you're still seeing the Fitbit logo, that generally means your Fitbit was not successfully paired. I would suggest trying to set it up again.

Yes, thé problem was that it was not pairing. No matter all the reboots of both the Versa and my phone. I discovered the problem and hope it helps anybody else with this frustrating issue. Here goes.

I had the Google VPN turned on. As soon as I turned it off, the Versa was able to pair. It still wouldn't let me load any clock faces so I updated the Versa, which took about 30 minutes. I still can't access most of the clock faces, but was able to get one, so I'm sticking with it. There's another update, but I'm afraid to do it given all the comments about how the latest update messed everything up!
