The last time this happened, we ended up pressing the three little dots in the upper right corner and it produced a barcode that I scanned but can't remember where we found it. Anyone know what I'm thinking  of?

Nope. Never seen a code to scan. 

But under notifications in the fitbit app. Tap the 3 dots to disable notifications. Then set notifications up.
