When using the walk exercise tracking setting on my versa 2, usually I connect my phone with my Fitbit and it stays connected for my whole walk. The last few times I have tried to use this as soon as I lock my phone or minimise the app it disconnects. So I’m not getting all the detail on my walk.

What do you mean by closing the app?

Did you swipe the Fitbit out of memory or force closed the Fitbit app?

If you did, how will the exercise app on the tracker connect to your Fitbit app on the phone?

You want to move the Fitbit app to the background before the phone goes to sleep.

I mean minimising the app, as I said. So using another app whilst Fitbit is open in the background or simply locking my phone as I don’t want to be on it whilst I’m walking. I would expect the connection to be lost if I was closing the app but I’m not and it has also only just started doing this and I’m doing nothing different to normal.

That simply means that your app does not have permission to run in the background.

If you have an Android device, check the power management as mentioned in the help docs.

What should I know about using the Fitbit app on my Android phone?

Same thing is happening to me Lizzy - it was working fine before, and the app has permission to use location all the time.  It is very annoying!

I have an iphone also.  It did not change in the settings.  I contacted fitbit support and they had me reset my watch by holding down the back button for 10 seconds.  It seems to be working - but I have not run with it yet, I just did this with support.  Maybe it will help you?

I dont know about iOS settings, or much about iOS.

Android has a habit of resetting permissions when the thing that permission has been given to has been updated.

So yes, on Android, with an app update, permissions and settings may get reset.

Update - the resetting of the watch worked - I ran this morning - it connected to my phone GPS quickly and stayed connected the whole time!  🙂
