I am hoping someone can help me, I just got my Fitbit verse and when trying to set it up followed the instructions, but when I get to "connect to wifi " part a little Red Cross of death appears, I can't get past this point and there is no info about it (or none that I can find) please can somebody help.....or is this a return?

Try a RESTART and do it several times if necessary.

In addition to the restart that @SunsetRunner mentioned, you may also want to give it a charge, to give it an extra boost of battery life.

You're welcome! That happened with my Alta HR back in January. I tried to add it to my account, did the restart, etc., but did I think to look at the battery life....haha, NOPE! Now that's the first thing I check when I face this issue!
