Why doesn't the FitBit app check the notification service anymore?

Notifications on my Fitbit Versa 2 have never worked for more than 2 days at a time and so I've got into the habit of going into the Fitbit settings and accessing the notification section every day.

Pretty much every time (I'd say 5/6 days out of 7) , there was a big red notice telling me the service was not running and I needed to restart my  phone.

But if I tapped the notice it would then take me to the app's notification settings on the phone (Xiami Redmi Note 13) which showed that the service was switched on. I tapped it to turn it of - and got a warning that doing so would disable notifications - and then turned it on again, which went to a screen with a 10 second countdown until I could tap 'OK' to activate notifications.

That would fix the problem until next time, which in most cases was the following morning.

But now, I know that the notification service isn't running since I get an alert on my phone which isn't mirrored on my Versa. So I go to the new-look FitBit settings and go into the notifications section. Nothing. All looks normal. No red banner telling me the service isn't working. But it clearly isn't working.

So I go into my phone's notifications section, find FitBit, and turn notifications off and on. No warnings. No 10-second countdown and, more to the point, no effect.

The only way I've found to fix it, without mucking up all my FitBit settings by stopping the app, is to restart my phone. So from a relatively quick process (disable and re-enable the notification service) I now have to go through the hassle of restarting my phone daily.

Isn't there a way to get the FitBit app to restart the notification service like it used to?

Is there a quicker way to deactivate/reactivate the service without rebooting the phone?
