Add Chromebook as a supported device

Is there any way to add Google Chrome books that run Chrome OS to the supported device list. My wife and I would be forever thankful!

Love my Fitbit. Love my Chromebook. Its time the two should meet.

How about an update on this issue, Fitbit folks?

This request has been going on since 2014. The feature has been requested in the main discussion forum too. The moderators usually thank everyone for suggesting that a Chromebook should be made compatable and that the idea has been sent up the ladder. Unfortunately, the bottom line is that nothing has been done in years. It doesn't look like anything will be done in the near future either. So try to be happy that your FitBit syncs when it feels like it to your phone, Mac, or PC. If I was a betting man, I'd say it isn't coming to Chrome before the Dinosaurs rule the Earth agian.

I have been using my HR Charge for 2 years now and recently switched to a Google Pixel phone.  How disappointed I am that my Fitbit and my phone are not compatible.  So, after hours of trying to sync them, I realize that this is not possible.   I am a teacher and our entire school works from Google.  Thus, I turn to my Chromebook and realize that THAT will not work either.   This is simply a huge disappointment.    Meanwhile, I am losing all opportunity to log my data.    Not cool....so not cool...

It would be nice if they could meet, but the Chrome OS is a web browser based operating system.

Unfortunately Fitbit along with Garmon have not figured out how to get around the fact that the browser is unable to connect to an external hardware device. This is the same reason that there is no sync button on Fitbit.com

I will buy one when they finally add it to chrome os.

Our Mac bit the dust and now we have a Chromebook. Please work on this issue so I can continue to sync my workouts!

I purposely bought a Fitbit for my elderly mother after I was told by the salesman that it would work with her Chrome book. She doesn't own a smart phone. I bought the Fitbit to get her moving and she is very disappointed that she can't use it. After reading the past four years posts, its obvious that Chrome books are not going away. Please find a way to may them work with our Fitbits.

Sorry @marilyn1160 and @Fitb1tAnthony the biggest problem right now is that on a chromebook, apps are all web based, and the Web is unable to communicate with the tracker.

This is also why you are unable to sync through Fitbit.com

you'd not be the only happy people. Now that i am investigating why my chromebook can't sync with my Charge2, I run into many threads asking for chrombook support.

It has BLUETHOOTH wo what is the problem to make it work ??

would love to see this....am very frustrated with my Chromebook due to the limited number of programs that can be added which are not google based.   hope we can get fitbit added!

So would I, but until Google makes a chrome based OS that can access Bluetooth devices I'm afraid it can not be done.

I'm pretty sure chromebooks support bluetooth, given that mine is playing music over bluetooth headphones right now...

Yes and the key here is the notebook is simply sending a audio stream to the headphones oppose to the internal speaker.. I can do this with a 2 dollar board the size of a quarter and a battery. No software needed. This is how I made my BT receiver for the car radio.

With a Fitbit tracker there is parsing, identification and two way communication that needs to happen between the Fitbit tracker and the web based app. The IS does not have any support here.. This is hy there is no sync button on the web page at www.fitbit.com. This is also the reason Garmon, Apple Watch and every other Bluetooth sync only tracker on the market can not sync through a chromebook.

In theory the Blaze and Surge could do it through their cables if an app was written.

There still is no problem accessing the data on a Chromebook once the tracker has synced through a different device.

Hi thanks for the info
I wud try now to get mine sinced through another device, but i am worried
it'll confuse my and my daughters fitbit watch

Wanted to try it on my husband old smartphone, but apparently, even that
samsung is not supported.

ANyhow

If I wear 2 fitbit's, A and B at the same wrist for the same time
A says i did 12 stairs and B says 8
A says i did 5000+ steps B says 4000+

in other words: it's just fun and not reliable, so that's why i will not
invest in upgrading daughters smartphone.

We have 6 laptops in the house (2 with BT) 8 smartphones (some +3 years
old) 3 desktops, 1 chromebook and
one Asus eee Book and 5 tablets (samsung galaxy 2013). SO, i feel we have
enough ....(5 fitbits too)

shame supports/upfrading/updates are often not done

We're happy, my friends in Kenya only have chinese smartphones breaking
down every few months........
And here I complain about BT not working. Imaging

Does anyone know if there is a web-based app that can support syncing with Bluetooth? That is the solution here because Google has not allowed any software to be downloaded that is not running as a Chrome extension. If any software has this capability, then I don't know why Fitbit hasn't made Chromebooks supportable yet. With the new updated to my Charge HR, I can hardly get it to sync with my phone. It's becoming useless tech for me, and I don't feel encouraged to purchase another in the future.

I have been checking in on this thread since 2014, and am discouraged that no one has taken action on it. I think that it's time that a moderator shows us some good faith.

I also would like a soliton for Chrome OS.  I have a Samsung Chromebook Pro that does have the play store on it.  The app does install but gets a error.  First comes the restart bluetooth, and keeps retrying after that.

I can set it up on my phone and use the app on my Chromebook though.  I am not sure if is syncing via the bluetooth on my chromebook or my phone but it seems to stay in sync.  Either way I would prefer to just have it on my Chromebook.

Also this would be a great device for the "Smart Lock" feature which comes up as a option on Android phones (does not work) but not come up on  Chrome OS.

I did pre-pair the fitbit hd to my Chromebook in bluetooth first, I also tried using a usb cable hooked to the computer as the charge. Not sure if it was a data cable also or not. Seem the cable is not a data cable just power.

Please add support for ChromeOS either via a Chrome App Plugin or Android App that works on Chrome OS/Android.

Returning the two Altas I bought for Christmas.  Didn't think it was possible for Fitbit to make a product that can't be used with Chromebook - and still be a viable company.  Learn something new everyday.

Agreed. I will never upgrade my fitbit until they do something about this.
It's ridiculous. Fortunately I can sync with my smartphone and do updates
with my husband's PC but not are all so lucky.

Just picked up my new Alta HR and come to find out now that I'm at home sitting in front of my Chromebook...it doesn't pair.  #fail Fitbit.  Please support Chromebook.

I recently gained possession of a Fitbit Charge HR, but was very disappointed to find I cannot sync it with my school-supplied Chromebook in any way. Chromebooks are capable of USB and Bluetooth connection, so this actually took me by surprise. Many people bring their Chrome devices on the go, including myself (I do not own a phone). It would just make sense to create a ChromeOS app or allow Fitbit to sync with the web version.

As mentioned in other posts, the problem is not in fitbit's side.

Chrome is a web based OS and the web browser is unable to connect to a Bluetooth device for syncing if data.

Once the browser is rewritten to support this it might become a reality.
