I just upgraded from a Flex to a Charge 3. I live on at a ski resort and was disappointed to see that I can't add skiing as an exercise. Please add Skiing to Charge 3 asap.
I just wish that cross country skiing and snowshoeing could be added as activity options for the GPS function on the Fitbit app. It would be nice to be able to record mileage, elevation and to map where you’ve gone similar to hiking. Doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult to add.
Everyone... this is a total joke. I would LOVE to have skiing as well. But you just have to search the Fitbit community forums to see this feature has been requested literally for years. I saw posts from 2016 requesting it for Charge 2 and from 2015 for Flex. All I ever see from the Fitbit moderators is lip service like... "that's a great idea, let's see what others think!". Very disappointing. Instead of these patronizing responses, I wish they would just be straighforward and tell us the truth like "tracking skiing requires advanced technology that we're years away from having... it's not worth the investment of our engineering efforts... etc"
UPDATE: As I was about to post this comment, I stumbled on this one response re: the Flex back in 2015. It's from a "moderator" so I'm not sure if that's a Fitbit representative or just a helpful community member. But it's the most helpful, realistic response I've seen and now I wonder why this isn't just repeated every month and year since 2015:
"Fitbit trackers use a 3-axis accelerometerto understand your motions, the algorithm used on Fitbit trackers is designed to look for motion patterns most indicative of people walking. The movement in downhill skiing might not be calculated as a step, so I recommend to manually log the activity to improve the accuracy of the calories burned, logging skiing will not add steps or distance as it is not a step based activity."
I totally agree with others in this thread that skiing MUST be added as a recognised exercise activity. I use Skitrack when skiing which is amazing, but it doesn't have a calorie count feature. Why doesn't Fitbit collaborate with Skitrack to use its data and provide for an accurate calorie count based on the hours/downhill miles and heartbeat provided by the two apps? Altitude is also provided for calculating oxygen consumption as well.
If you use Skitrack, you can use the total descent ski distance (in my case 20km) and the average speed (in my case 17km) to calculate to minutes skied (in my case 68 minutes). This should provide a more accurate basis for calorie counts but still not perfect as you burn more calories when pushing with your poles on flat stretches than when you go downhill. Also the exercise minutes aren't correctly spread out.
I had a Charge 2 and lost it. I just purchased a Fitbit Charge 3 after looking at other options (primarily Apple Watch 4.) Charge 3 is a great heart rate monitor, which is my primary use for the watch. I would also like to be able to track my nordic skiing more accurately (I am a competitive ski racer.) Now, when I am in a race or doing a workout, I am using the 'run' mode and it underestimates my distance by 1/3 to 1/2. Other metrics are way off too. Using GPS on my phone to achieve better accuracy is hard on mountain trails where one generally skis (this is true for Garmin and Apple smartwatches as well.) In order to better track my exercise without having to mess with the pace on the 'bike' or 'run' modes on my fitbit every time I switch activites, I would like an additional activity mode--- or maybe even a nordic ski mode??? (there must be many hard core nordic skiers like me with a fitbit....) Now the watch sometimes tracks my skiing as 'biking' if I haven't set the run activity. And when it underestimates my distance on the 'run' mode, my very intense, calorie chewing nordic ski workout looks wimpy. I don't like that.
I would really appreciate if Fitbit added a Dance mode of working out on the watch (I have an inspire HR)
I go to a dance academy and dance all day. I do dances such as ballet, jazz, hiphop etc.
With dance, there are short periods of very high, elevated heartrate (when your're doing a choreo 3 times in a row without stopping) and lower heart rates (stretching, doing the Barre in ballet, etc.)
It would be amazing for professional dancers to track accurate calorie burn during a full day of practice and rehearsals.
Hi @SuzanneFC! Great suggestion, thanks for sharing all those details on your feature request. I've moved it into a similar request. You can see that the status is: Under Consideration. You can learn more about how Fitbit decides what suggestions get released in our FAQs. ⛷
Hello. I have Fitbit Versa for 1 year I loved that but than came problems. I do specific sports. In winter I was skiing and there was no exercixe shortcut for it but OK I found some app for that in fitbit. And now it is summer so I bought new inline skates, but then I found out that there is not shortcut for rollerblading too! So please could you consider to make that for us? Because otherwise I will have to find new activity tracker that support this exercises. Than you!
Hi @SunsetRunner, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. This feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here. Don't forget to add your vote! I also noted that you mentioned a second idea. I ask you to post only one idea per feature. That way, we can keep the board organized and searchable. This makes it easier to know which idea other members are voting for. Here is the link for another existing feature suggestion regarding rollerblading: Add Roller Blading or Skating/Ice skating as exercise
I have the Ionic and the cross country skiing use to be an option under exercises and could be added as a shortcut...why was it removed? I see that I can manually add it after the fact but why can't I start the exercise and track it like I could before? One improvement at the expense of several downgrades is not progress.
Hi @Gserpetti4, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!
This lack of progress was so worrying that I went to check its stock price and it has TANKED!! Clearly the company is struggling so I suspect they are not devoting resources to software improvements which is kind of a very short sighted policy as people will switch to more dynamic competitors.
I am a ski instructor and spend most of my winter skiing on mountains and my summers in an indoor ski slope.it is my most common form of exercise.I would also like to see this adds to my blaze.
Hi @dlabrie, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!
