TomTom Adventurer watch tracks ski/snowboarding and has onboard music. I've heard it's notification abilities are poor though.
Polar's Android Wear watch, the M600, tracks a broad set of sports, ski/snowboarding included. Also onboard music, notifications, and the other smart stuff. Decent battery, 2-3 days, 8 hrs GPS (w/ music & HR monitor), but not as good as Ionic's.
Seeing that we are not getting any attention from Fitbit here in the communities, maybe we should post this thread on their Facebook pages? I'm not on Facebook so i have to pass this on to someone who does: https://nb-no.facebook.com/fitbit/
The Adventurer gets 10-11 hours battery life with using GPS only. Add heart rate tracking and/or music and it takes a heavy hit down to 5 hours battery life.
I get that Fitbit has seen/heard this request for ski tracking for years. But the Ionic was put into the fitness/smart watch game to compete against the likes of Apple, Android Wear, Garmin, Polar, TomTom, etc. Recognizing they have a long way to go on the 'smartwatch' side, making this watch more functional on the fitness side has got to be the best avenue to further success with this watch, especially at this price point. A fully functional fitness watch with onboard music, great battery life, and can track niche sports like skiing and golf at $300 is something that would capture a large demographic of consumers out there (my opinion). Just need to get the skiing and golf added.
I am not on Facebook either (I am a grumpy old git who likes skiing!) so if others can do so, that would be great - perhaps there are other social media that Fitbit people will look at - Twitter perhaps or instagram?
Just something so that they provide a response to the hundreds of people who have responded positively to the suggestion…
There has been a LOT of people begging for skiing (X country and downhill) to be added as a sport. Th only "official" response was..."folks, we hear you, but look - we are going to try to sell you Ionic". The company has lost me at that point, I will NOT replace my Surge with Ionic, Atomic, Orgasmic or whatever they come up with...Apple Watch, Garmin, whoever...here I come!
My wife and I both switched to Garmin over skiing and waterproofing. I still watch this thread out of curiosity, but I'm not frustrated anymore. It amazes me no one at FitBit is a skier/boarder/XC skier and hasn't said, "hmm, why don't we support this?".
I suspect the issue is this forum is managed by moderators and the activity dies down on this thread from April - December every year so it only gets active comments when users head out during the winter. The top threads right now have thousands of comments so this probably isn't even close to hitting their radar.
I love the Fitbit charge 2, but since I’m a norwegian and love skiing I really miss an possibility to track this activity. When I bought my Fitbit I assumed it had this feature, and I was a little disappointed. It would be really nice if this could be added to it 🙂
Hope you add cross-country skiing with GPS map, correct distance pulse and everything else. hmmm I have used run mode so far, quite disappointing, get the map, but the distance ends up very wrong, it does not show the correct distance, cant understand why not use the map as a distance, I understand it now use the steps to calculate distance...hm why not use the pps map info when its already there, right now I wish I rather went for a garmin sapphire, I may deliver back my fitbit, and hope to get the monay back, I also will recommend other to buy garmin instead. Kind of cool to go cross country skiing and after the skiing see the distance, next time I may have my garmin for bike with me so I can get the correct distance 🙂
Yes please! My pulsar has an activity for it! Would hate to not use my fitbit Ionic during skiing just because it lack activities as a software... My pulsar ain't even half the price....
Wow... years of people asking for this and no useful response. Fitbit seems to have become quite unresponsive to what should be fairly simple user requests.
Could you please add cross country skiing as an activity that could be tracked by gps. In Norway large shares of the population has cc skiing as their main sports activity during winter season.
