Add custom notes to Sleep Log or Rate Sleep

In order to effectively use the sleep log to improve sleep quality, I think it might be helpful to be able to annotate each log entry with comments about things that might affect sleep quality (eg alcohol consumption, use of sleeping tablet, late caffeine intake, late exercise, meditation/ relaxation, consumption of unusual foods etc). Then, on review of several weeks/ months of sleep logs, patterns may become evident.

Just like the womans health tracking we can add detail for the day like how we are feeling and create a bigger picture for or data. What if the sleeping app worked the same way. We could add details to the log. For example drank alcohol, Work night, weekend, (shift workers dont have normal weekends) took sleeping medications, what time I ate before bed. All these input s could show a trend as to why someone might not be sleeping well. Having this trend data to their knowlege could help them find the cause and work on their sleep patterns.

YES YES I currently have to keep a separate journal about the quality to sleep and my evening behaviors the night before. Fitbit will day I had a great nights sleep, but I have a hard time getting enough deep sleep, so even if I get 8 hours I’ll wake up feeling groggy. I need to find out what works, but can’t integrate that with Fitbit currently.

It would be nice to incorporate a sleep grade. For example it says I was restless 20 times & awake once through the night. If this was normal maybe it should say “normal” and if not, then maybe it should say “abnormal” then suggest ways to improve sleep.

Hello @Kendrawithpets.

Thanks for sharing that idea. I could definitely see how getting a qualifier for the sleep could be useful for all sorts of users.

Let's see what other users have to say about it.

Hi I've bean spoiled by using the sleep meter app for the last 3 years. I really like what the Fitbit does with sleep tracking and the graphs, its a lot more accurate but I miss the ability to add notes. When looking food I can add notes through the website if not the app, I would really like that option for sleep logging. I get nightmares and bad days when even when i sleep i don't get rest, there are time when i try new things to help with sleep and wellbeing and would like to

Wow! This thread has been going on for a silly while!

I was thinking about an app that did this for you guys. Briefly, it would:

1. Label your sleep data, so you could search trends and compare them. Eg., user defined Labels such as, alcohol, substance-X, exercise, tired, etc.

2. Grouping different labels so you can see the impact of various causal effects.

3. Other data science visualisations. TBD

Basically, the bottom line is, are you guys happy to pay for such a service via something like Kickstarter?

Best,

Girish

I would be willing to pay a fee for an app - not an ongoing fee.

One-time nominal fee - yes

Personally I don't think I would want to pay for an app. I just felt it
should be included in the layout of the sleep section.

I would not want to pay for another app.  I want it on the app I already use.  Heck I can use excel and make a spreadsheet if I wanted another app

I agree

Exactly. It should be part of the app.

I’m new to Fitbit but it looks like note taking within the app has been requested for years now. Any hopes that this feature could be added in the near future? What are the steps and stages for getting this approved & worked on for implementation? I can see so many benefits for note taking within different categories of the app and I had this feature with a different tracker, so I would think implementing this feature is definitely possible.  Personally I have Narcolepsy and commenting to track my alertness and medication would be useful for myself as well as being able to share it with my doctor. My husband would like to note explanations for being awake in the middle of the night (internal versus external cause). I think most people could benefit from this feature. Thank you in advance!!

Hi,
I'm just a relatively new user too, and I was looking for this to be added.
I have no idea how long it takes or who goes about developing any upgrades
to the app. But from what I can make out, the more users comment on
suggestions, the more likely the app developers will look into the issue.
So fingers crossed it might happen!

I agree. I wouldn't want to pay for this simple addition to the app.
I don't see why Fitbit has not jumped on this. Call me crazy but adding a
simple note field shouldn't be that hard.

I saw somewhere recently that they were updating their app.  Maybe this will be part of it!  Not sure how soon - but I will be hopeful.

Maybe Fitbit will tell us when?

Perhaps Fitbit will let us know via this forum. Do we think this is likely??

I think I would implement this with a drop down list (like Medicine, Alcohol, Family Drama, etc) plus the comments.   Then Fitbit would be able to aggregate the sleep data with the external factors and perhaps use it for something useful.

yep that sounds like a good idea.

I would really like to see this feature too. Primarily to record how rested I felt when waking up, to be able to detect patterns based on sleep times/states and day activity.

Would love to be able to put notes in the sleep dashboard about day or night just to keep better track of what is affecting sleep.
