Add dark mode on new Fitbit app

Disappointed that there is no dark mode option given the awful app update to a block of white - very hard to distinguish sections so if you are vision impaired or have dry eyes it’s just not comfortable to engage with anymore. It’s so infuriating given that I preferred my Fitbit app layout and data to my Garmin one which I use the running.

I can't believe this has been suggested years ago, and still no sign of it. I'm a new user to Fitbit and this is the second glaring thing missing or wrong (the other being the hourly step count in the app showing the count, an hour ahead of time). These issues have been brought up by users for a long time now, and still no fix for either of them.

Dark mode is needed asap. Any app without dark mode is immoral and a joke. Add it now

Under consideration for a year?  Are you kidding me?  This is a joke right?

I think that it should be discrimination against the handicapped for ANY app like this to not have a dark mode.  I'm serious though.  I'm not sure exactly how many people suffer from it, but I know there's a lot of people like me that have to endure increased levels of pain when looking at bright white screens.  Even with the brightness down a good bit.

I see that they've replied about this though, and basically said that there is maybe a chance that they'll add a dark mode.  And if they do it will likely take a while before it's implemented and active in the app.  So we are all thanked for our patience...

I don't think that's acceptable.  Fitbit is part of one of the richest companies on the planet now.  And here we have an app dedicated to improving people's health, that causes thousands, or maybe tens or hundreds of thousands of people to be in more pain than they already are every time they use Fitbit's app.  AND, they still can't even tell us if they will add a dark mode.

Indeed. It’s been OVER 8 (EIGHT) years that people have been asking for this much needed function (I wouldn’t even call it a “feature” per se but a necessity). Every morning when I wake up, I like to check my sleep stats, etc. But it’s truly PHYSICALLY *painful* on my eyes to look at the app after waking up, as it’s like shining one of those bright police flashlights in your eyes at night smh.

So every time I need to look at the Fitbit app when things are dark around, I have to manually adjust the brightness of my entire phone screen, and then tilt my phone and look at it from a specific angle, to further minimize the uncomfortable brightness.. just to read the app!

Anyone found a good alternative device and app with dark mode?  What kind of health app doesn't have dark mode.

How dies this app still not have dark mode yet? It's ridiculous. This is needed as a BASIC accessibility feature.

Please provide a "dark mode" layout option for this app. I like to check out my progress at night, and the bright white background is painful to look at (and keeps my wife awake). In general, I prefer dark backgrounds on all apps and do not like staring at a white light. I am very glad to see this is being given consideration.

Now, just do it?

Where the heck is dark mode?? This ridiculous. You are trying to compete with apple? Like I don't think you guys realize how far behind Fitbit app is. Atleast give us the frkn dark mode!!

Hi @LizzyFitbit et. al.,

As one of many who are suffering irreparable harm from the lack of dark mode by using the Fitbit app on my phone, I had a look at the history of the associated comments requesting such dark mode and found the oldest to be over nine (9) years old. Therefore, I am suggesting the task of replying to the users who would like to realize the goal of dark mode actually becoming a feature in the Fitbit app, tasks which you have been so dutifully attending; e.g. moving associated comments into the same thread and reporting on how dark mode has, after nine+ years, "rocketed" into the "Under Consideration" category, all be given to an AI bot to manage, reply to, keep rankings, and publish reports alongside all such Comments, and, hey, maybe use AI to write the code as well. I'm sure there are other redundant comments and replies and new feature requests which could be "prioritized" in the same manner. All those as well should go into the AI pot. That way, and here's where my "suggestion" really shines... the time "saved" could be used to actually have a human work on the code for dark mode. Lastly, you might also consider training  your favorite corporate (Gemini) ChatBot to tell the Fitbit Marketing folks that dark mode will drive Fitbit users from Free to Premium subscribers. Sounds like 2025 management to me. Eh?

Too bad Google hasn't had the funds to do this.

On a serious note, @sudotrin has a great idea about https://www.section508.gov/ as a potential fire-lighter. Do you think that approach would involve a fine?

Thank you for your time. 🙂

Where's dark mode, or the O.G. darker Fitbit app color scheme?

Why isn't this implemented already?

Fitbit must be one of the last major health apps to support Dark Mode. For me it's an accessibility issue - I have super sensitive eyes and I use dark mode to ensure that what I am looking at is comfortable for me.

Even though this is a Google app, it’s surprising and disappointing that it still lacks a dark theme year after year. It feels like a basic feature that most apps have adopted, yet it keeps getting deprioritized. A dark theme would greatly enhance usability, especially for those who use the app at night or prefer a more visually comfortable experience. Why does such a widely requested feature continue to be overlooked?

I need dark mode too. I have cataracts and astigmatism and need the contrast. White is too bright. Especially bad at night.

Hi, if you're reading this and have an iPhone and want a quick workaround for dark mode try this:

Go into "Shortcuts" app, go to automation, and create a rule for when the Fitbit app is opened and closed to set "Smart Invert" to be turned on and off respectively. It's not ideal but it works for me

Not having Dark Mode is an accessibility issue. This app is not useable for people with light sensitivity, chronic migraines, and many other things.

This thread has been under "consideration" for almost 2 years. Other closed threads are marked as "not planned" and are even older. This is obviously something that your customer bas has been clamoring for, and yet you can't use some of that Bezos money to make some poor underpaid UX intern to make a positive change.

No wonder you're losing your customer base to Garmin

I thought that a dark mode version of the fitbit app would finally show up with Google ownership, since it's hard to claim a lack of resources at this point. So... Please? When?

I'm REALLY tired of looking at all that bright white space at night.

Please I'm begging you, Fitbit/Google, please add Dark Mode. I have chronic migraines and the white background triggers migraines that can leave me bed bound for days. I left Fitbit for 2 months due to this and went to Garmin for several reasons (ie dark mode app, body battery, etc.) but I missed how integrated Pixel is across the board. So I'm back with Google/Fitbit but this is still a huge problem. If this issue is one of the most reported complaints, then it's time to add it to your app. It's 2025, every app has dark mode now.

This is truly frustrating beyond words. I called Fitbit customer service today to once again report and complain about this issue (I called several years ago about this as a "premium" user). The representative said what the last representative said, that they "would forward to the correct department" along with a link to THIS specific thread to view all of the valid reasons and issues this causes users.

This glaring issue has been complained about, reported and asked for, for ***OVER 9 YEARS*** (almost a decade)!!! Only to be considered, then changed to unconsidered/not planned over and over (!).

Wondering if this is some sort of joke to an executive head or to the development team at Fitbit to watch how many users complain about this, and for how long. I don't know. I just hope that by this Spring/Summer we can see something, even just in BETA, for now...
