Alerts for low or abnormal level of SpO2 on real time

Hi, given that I'm not a doctor so this idea should first be discussed with medical persons, for what I've read, the Coronavirus determines a pneumonia and for what I know, a pneumonia results in breathe difficulties so MAYBE the Sp02 sensor could be useful to register and warn about this. So, the idea is to show the Sp02 values not only during sleeping time but 24h, even better showing the value or an alert in case o anomalies on the bracelet itself.

If we have technology to help the fight against this virus, let'us it!!

Many past Fitbit users have gotten older. I cannot exercise the same as 6 years ago. I had fewer joint issues and breathing issues. Fitbit has lost track of it's older users. The programs offered are for people younger.

I definitely want this feature and I know atleast a few people that would buy a Charge 4 if this information was available.

FYI To all of you thinking that you can intimidate Fitbit into releasing this data through loss of market share to Apple watch series 6 here is a little sad fact. Starting with Apple watch series 4 or 5 and going forward Apple watch is platform locked and only pair able with an iPhone 8 or newer. The 2019 global smartphone market split breakdown is ~13% Apple and ~87% Android. This means that Apple has limited itself to about 13% of the total smartphone market for 2019. In that Fitbit is platform agnostic they can market to 100% of the smartphone users. If they completely ignore iOS users they still have 87% of smartphone users they can market their smart watches to. Their real competition is Garmin, Samsung, and Google wear enabled devices along with all the other platform agnostic wearables. Considering the Google Alphabet Corp purchase of Fitbit and the massive capital banking them from Google. There only real risk is Google absorbing them into Google's existing wearable division or shuttering Fitbit completely.  Hopefully this sheds some light on why Fitbit doesn't listen to its users and offer requested features or need to compete against Apple. The Apple segment of the global market is insignificant compared to the android market share as it pertains to Fitbit's market strategy.

I'm only interested in watches that have features that I need brand or price are not important to me.

When my Versa Lite dies I'll find a watch for $40 that has features that I need for my health.

Please add SPO2 readings to Fitbit devices that support SPO2 readings! we need it now more than ever!

Hi @Mike1in3, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to use Sp02 option to warn about breathe difficulties. Thanks for sharing your feedback. I've moved it into a similar request.  A lot of users are asking for this option, I hope we receive updates soon.

My fitbit only shows generalized SpO2 data (i.e. am I within a range). I want fitbit app to tell me the *actual* blood oxygen level - not a range, Ideally, it should show the SpO2 values several times a day over a period of time to establish benchmark and allow for quick determination of a sudden drop, possibly indicating infection.

As an asthmatic/COPD person, this would be a great feature because I sometimes don't realize my breathing pattern changes. It could also help people with undiagnosed sleeping issues if they did have breath pauses during their sleep.....since sleep doctors ask the patient if they notice they stop breathing.

SpO2 is quickly become an early warning tool with temperature screening for Covid-19.  https://onezero.medium.com/an-update-to-your-fitbit-could-detect-a-covid-19-symptom-a14699667583

I'm guessing the holdup for Fitbit is actually she bureaucrat, internal or in the FDA. Considering Samsung phones have had oximeters for several generations without trouble, it can't be fear of liability if misused as a diagnostic tool or technical limitations.

Great idea

Add the ability to view on-demand oxygen saturation throughout the day (like heart rate numbers), especially with "happy hypoxia" being one of the symptoms of COVID-19. I'd be willing to pay for this via premium and would continue even after the crisis being an asthmatic.

Adding this to the Ionic as well would be a very nice feature.

There will be a vaccine before Fitbit gets off their asses and does
anything. Can you recommend another brand that does SpO2 on demand??? I
put this request in back in March!!!!

Bravo Fitbit for the Covid early detection study and partnering with Stanford and Scripps.

I hope the SpO2 information is used with other partners like cardiogram to monitor for more health conditions in the future too.  This really could expand the picture of cardiovascular health the Fitbit is able to track.

It's not even a Covid-19 issue, which is hopefully on the wane.

SpO2 is data about my body and Fitbit should be providing it to me, since its sensor is certainly collecting the information.  This is why I bough my Versa.

And it has nothing to do with regulation, since plenty of other devices provide SpO2 readings (even my ancient Galaxy 6 phone had a dedicated sensor, which was surprisingly accurate).  Similarly, none of the $20 SpO2 Chinese meters you can buy have FDA approval, and that's their SOLE purpose.

So, to Fitbit: Enough already! Expose our own data to us and let this thread die.  If the new Apple Watch comes out with native sleep tracking before Fitbit is done with this nonsense, only those seriously uninformed will be left to stew in the Fitbit ecosystem.

I am upvoting this, however, you should understand why the oximeter readings are presented that way and during the night only:

- during the day, the constant movement of the wrist does not allow for accurate readings, that's why it's measured only during the night

- even during the night, the accuracy might not be up to the required standards, normal oximeters use the tip of the finger and require you to stand still, here we have a much greater variability due to wearing position, skin hair etc.

- to display absolute values, the device should be certified. I believe Fitbit is working on it, but it's probably not so easy given the problems that I have outlined above.

Please note that I don't work for Fitbit, and I'm not a doctor. These are just my deductions. Hope that Fitbit will be able to release better stats eventually.

@Bleeh your Samsung has a conventional sensor, that works with the fingertip. This probably means that it's much easier to get accurate readings and a certification, as there are tons of devices that work that way. Here we have a new situation, they probably have to gather a lot of data and prove that they can get consistent results.

They can set it up as an app that instructs you to stay still during the test . I will even take it off and put it on my finger. I just want the option to see my current blood oxygen level.

Have a health "app" with real time data gotten from the watch including heart rate and SpO2 with the option to see a graph of that data over time either on the device or in the app. (NOT JUST DURING SLEEP)

Enable a data readout of blood oxygen percentage in real time, exactly like you do for heart rate. EG 98%, meaning you have 98% oxygenated heamoglobin

To the fitbit moderators.

The fitbit community has been seeing the same response to our questions regarding SPO2 for years - "I hope we receive updates soon."

In my opinion, this is just generating more frustration with Fitbit.   Soon is defined as in a short time.

Would someone ( moderator) kindly provide a date if at all, when Fitbit will provide our SPO2 data to its customers in real time.  I dont care if the reading is 1/minute.  1/15 minutes  1/hr it that helps conserve battery life.....Let me pick the interval.

I've sent 2 request into investor relations requesting an update on SPO2.  Have not heard a word.  Very disappointing.

Thanks
