I think you should be able to sync with your phone and then upload data at a later date. Let us store data locally so that an internet connection is not required to see current stats.

Moderator Edit: Clarified request
Sadly not, it just says I need a internet connection to sync.
I've come on holiday for two weeks and had no internet and couldn't update The time on my blaze as it wouldn't connect to the internet. Really silly that it needs the internet for syncing. Not sure why it needs the internet for this. Or even why I need the internet to sync info to my phone.
I'm in the Navy and am currently stationed on a ship. I have zero internet capabilities and cannot sync my data to my Fitbit app on my phone. I've seen other products that don't need the Internet to sync data to their phone and would like it if Fitbit did the same thing. While I'm on the ship I'd like to see my sleeping patterns, how I did on my run, compare my data throughout the weeks and months. At the moment I can't and it's frustrating. I don't want to look into other apps because I really like my Fitbit a but I need something that will support me while I'm on the ship.
I totally agree!!! I was on a cruise for a week and did not want to pay for the outrageous wi-fi, but I wanted to see my steps/flights of stairs on my phone (in airplane mode with bluetooth turned on). If it is syncing over bluetooth, why can't the app just save the data!
I totally agree !!! It's not keeping the data off Fitbit servers, it's just upload it when a connection is available and be able to see the progress we make on the app when we have no connection ! Because now, without internet, we cannot sync, and the Fitbit app becomes useless which i sad. we can't see our progress with our goals nor anything , the UI seems freezed .... please make it sync data over bluetooth !
Although I am enthusiastic about the app, I stopped using Fitbit. The reason is the forced online sharing of personal information. Stats about sleep, heartrithm, general health condtion, are and should remain private property of the user. A supplier of useful apps should not cheat their customers out of this information and decide if and how to exploit the assembled data. In my view, it's not decent.
I am aware of the benefits of cumulated health statistics. But you should make it an individual choice: either we share our private stats and in return, gain access to early insights and knowledge from cumulated stats. Or we can assemble our own private stats offline.
Afterpost to my post earlier today, concerning customer ownership of health stats.
As to mentioned 'access to benefits of cumulated health stats':
Cumulative userstats divided by age categories, would enable individuals to assess their condition more objectively. One could think of other ways to tailor information for groups that would optimize insight and health benefits. A category of obese users for instance, of insulin sufferers, of rehab patients. It goes without saying that it would be the free choice of the individual whether or not to participate in special groups, and that the manufacturer should guarantee responsible use and secure transfer and storage of data.
I bought one over a year ago. I tried to use it, but can't as i work as a FIFO overseas in a remote area, so the watch is a waste of money. It has been sitting on my bedside table for at least a year. I don't bother with it anymore. I should have read more forums like this before purchasing it.
I love my fitbit blaze, but it is utterly useless while I am on a 6 month deployment on a US Navy ship because it needs internet to sync. Fitbit needs to develop a fix to this. It syncs using a Bluetooth connection, but still needs internet? How about being able to sync to your phone without internet and then have your phone app sync to the servers when you get an internet signal back?
I received a Fitbit Charge 2 as a self selected present. I removed it from its packaging to set it up then I realised that I can't set it up or use without IP addresses and a myriad of other private information being collected and stored pretty much indefinitely. I read a number of these comments and see they started several years back already, yet no development from Fitbit for what is a very reasonable request from its customers.
Is anything actually going to be done about this?
The fact that the Fitbit is paired to a phone in all likelihood means the phone is also being tracked - How else will you get an IP address - the Fitbit can't provide it? So even if I don't wear the Fitbit the phone movement is able to be tracked. Please assure me this is not the case.
As for assurances about data security ... Hmmm I'd rather rely on my own!
Just bought a Fitbit Charge and cannot belive that there is no offline sync, which means I won't be able to sync while abroad with data roaming turned off or when I'm travelling on the tube in London where there's no data access. Please implement this feature asap! If I had known it wasn't possible I'd never have bought the product. Samsung can manage it, so why can't you?
I bought my 11 yr old son a Charge HR and uses a smart phone which isn't activated so he can only use it when there's wifi around. He would like to look at the app and sync to see how's he doing. He's a bit on the heavy side so he needs all the motivation he can get (which is why I got for him in the 1st place). If this isn't a motivating factor to make this feature available I don't know what will get the fitbit team to implement this. PLEASE update the fitbit app to include this capability. Thank you.
@SciFer3321 Since FitBit won't/hasn't changed their stance on syncing for the US Military request, I can't imagine that one chubby 11 year old is going to sway them. What a great idea though! Wish you and he the best of luck. Get him interested in his health while he's young and it will be with him forever!
I posted about this limitation 3 years ago. Fitbit products are useless without an active internet connection. Fitbit has neither fixed this limitation nor answered the thousands of other posts on this threat. Do yourself a favor. Find another company that listens to its customers. Get another product.
Apparently Americans never go on a holiday for more then 7 days without internet. Wow, I like my Charge 2 but this is a BIG FAIL.
So I really have to check my days progress on the tiny Fitbit screen instead of on my decent smartphones screen because I cannot sync without internet connection.
after spending £200 on a surge why is it we cant sync our own data to our phones without having data or internet. my fitbit is constant on bluetooth but i dont get data most times around where i live or work. i got the surge as have slight heart issues so it nice to sync and check heart rates during the day. why does my private medical data have to go to fitbit before i can veiw on my phone. for £200 i expect to be able to use without sharing all my info and be able to sync when ever i want not just when data or internet is available. pls sort this OFFLINE SYNC out as i see a lot people are feed up with service fitbit forcing online sync only.
So basically if you travel, if you are in the armed services, if you do not have "always on " internet on your phone do not buy a fitbit.
Now they also own pebble we can say that customer service is very low on the priority list. Basically they do not care.
As a long term loyal customer of fitbit I am about to leave. I have several devices and my next device will not be fit bit. Once we leave we won't come back.
Really disappointed that this suggestion is from almost two years ago. Bluetooth syncing without connecting to the Internet should be standard. Why does my brand new alta 2 Fitbit still not have this - it's obviously what people want!
