I went from a Charge HR to an Ionic over a year ago and this week bought a Charge 3 to wear to work while keeping my Ionic for pleasure.
I bought the Charge 3 based on Fitbits claim you can have two devices on one account. Imagine my surprise and disappoint when I set the Charge 3 up and get this "fine print" stating it will not work with the Ionic. I was pissed to put it bluntly. Now I need to decide which I want to keep and sell the other!
Shame on Fitbit for IGNORING their loyal paying customers. I should have learned after 2 Charge HR failures and switched to the TomTom but I got an Ionic on sale and it's been good so far, except now I can't use it.
Yesterday, I bought a new Charge 3 as a supplement to my Ionic, for use when the Ionic is charging, or for when I don't need GPS. After spending most of yesterday evening battling registering the device and keeping the Ionic, I find this thread. It's not possible. At all.
Are you kidding me? This is 2019, 50 years after they sent people to the Moon, and you tell me I can't connect two DIFFERENT sensors to one user account. It worked for my old Alta HR, so this functionality has actually DISAPPEARED with the newer Charge 3.
I cannot for my bare life see the rationale in not implementing this functionality ASAP. It would make your more advanced users happy, and it would SELL MORE FITBIT DEVICES. Surely that must be of interest to Fitbit.
My new Charge 3 today goes back to the store where it came from, which is a shame. I really liked it, it's light, it sits better on my wrist than the Ionic and does everything I need it to do, except from GPS. And with no Ionic update on the horizon, it's perhaps time to go Garmin. Fitbit does not seem to care about more advanced users.
It's actually ridiculous that a year later from the original post, you still can't have both connected to your account without removing one first...that's a hassle.
In what way do they not care @SunsetRunner? Have you reviewed the large list of suggestions that have been implemented? Then we also have suggestions implemented and users are now upset and want the requested feature removed.
Since we do not know how the server works, but we have seen many features added that have also added unwanted bugs, I personally want this feature to be well rested before it is implemented. Fitbit has stated that they are working on having multiple devices running Fitbit OS.
Let's hope they get it right this time, since the still do not have the multiple tracker feature with the older models working correctly yet.
"Well rested"??? For almost a year??? Are you kidding me...???
I think you should read, how many loyal customers spent money on a second or third tracker (smartwatch) and the devices are useless because simply they cannot be added to the account... It's not just me. Read the discussion, please!
Sorry I can not control what type of research or lack of that users do before purchasing.
What I said is when this feature gets added. I hope they do a better job then they did when adding the ability to add more than one pre android OS based watches. Currently a user can add multiple trackers as long as only one of them runs the Fitbit OS. This is because of the way data is stored on the server.
So yes a good portion of the server logic needs to be rewritten and tested before this can be released.
Personally if as many, as you say, bought multiple units, why only 420 votes. I have to give Fitbit credit, if they are working on this since it usually needs 650+ before the developers even notice.
Just bought an Inspire without realizing it wouldn’t pair with my Ionic. This feature was the reason that I have been loyal to Fitbit. Now there is no reason for me not to switch to an iWatch or Garmin.
Also find it interesting that even with all of these comments of people who bought and then returned their Fitbit, Fitbit still hasn’t made it more clear when you are buying a Fitbit that this is a new issue.
I’m still getting emailed this thread and enjoy reading everyone’s responses. I too gave up on Fitbit when I was days away from getting a Versa and then read on here you can’t put the Versa and a Charge 3 on the same account. WHAT?? Idiotic. I know one poster here keeps saying ”Well only 400 people voted for this, so it’s not that important” Um. Not everyone considering a Fitbit interacts on these boards and “likes” postings. Fitbit may have lost 1000s of sales over this issue. Who knows? Anyway I ended taking Amazon up on their $199 Apple Watch deal and HAVEN’T looked back. If you own an iPhone, I’d recommend ditching Fitbit. The Apple Watch flawlessly integrates with the iphone. No glitches or hiccups etc. Reply to emails and take calls on your wrist. Plus you still have all the fitness tracking and more. Fitbit has been a huge disappointment. I had so much hope for them after Pebble joined their team but they’ve dropped the ball with glitchy products and fixes that crawl along at a snail’s pace (or never happen). Great ideas that sit dormant for years while “under consideration” by Fitbit. It’s amazing how slowly they move. The lack of having a Versa and a Charge 3 in the same account was the last straw. I’m out. Enjoying my Apple Watch and feel sorry for those of you still frustrated by your Fitbits. Cut the cord. Say goodbye to Fitbit and move on would be my advice. Good luck!
I have switched to the Samsung Galaxy watch, it's funny though, i have 2 galaxy smart watches and both are connected to my account and i can use either at any time. I can't believe after all this time Fitbit still cannot make this happen. I loved my fitbits, but this limitation caused me to switch, and im happy i did.
I hear you @arlenebrown loud and clear. I was able to do that with the Samsung watches also with minimal fuss.
Ultimately I switched back to Fitbit as the heart rate info while running or any cardio based workout was way off. But if you’re not a stickler for that, they do many other things quite well.
I’m still going to hold onto my Charge 3 and hope I can switch between it and my Ionic at some point. But the lack of any updates on how seriously they are considering this feature has me concerned. Must be a lot of work behind the scenes to get something like this to happen. So it could be that.
@JonDavidL and you also noticed that the same poster has mentioned that Fitbit is working on resolving this issue.
It requires a rewrite of the way the server handles watches with OS 3.0. Then some troubleshooting, and setting up Betsy users who do have multiple units to test it. And finally after as many bugs that can be identified and worked out, retested it can then be released to the public.
If Fitbit was at all serious about customer loyalty and retention they would have publically adressed this issue long long ago.
The sad truth is they don't give a hoot about repeat, satisfied customers.
No way in hell does it take 15-16 months to rewrite a program as simple as what runs on a fitness tracker. They are just blowing everyone off.
If they are serious about fixing the issue I would be happy to participate in beta testing since I own both the Iconic and Charge 3. I will bet money they don't respond to this offer though.
Used to have my Blaze and Ionic both on the same account. Bought a Versa to add to my account with my Ionic so I have options relating to where I’m going, and what I’m wearing without sacrificing tracking since I already don’t wear my ionic some days. The Versa arrived yesterday, and well, you alllll know what happened next.
Today, I thought maybe merging data from two separate Fitbit accounts would be possible so I don’t have to play the switching game. That’s also not an option. I know a few of you say it’s easy to just switch the trackers out on the account, and while in theory it is easy, it’s a complete PITA & time consuming especially if you’re switching back and forth almost everyday.
Shame me on for assuming since I had my Blaze and Ionic on the same account, that having a Versa wouldn’t be an issue on the same account along with my Ionic. I wish I had known this prior to purchase.
