Allow multiple devices on the same account (Sense/Versa series, Inspire, Charge & Luxe)

Be allowed to have both a Fitbit Versa and a Fitbit Ionic on the same account so you can easily switch between them.

First Steps

I'm adding myself to the list of disappointed customers and will be returning the brand new Inspire that I purchased to complement my other Fitbits. I can't imagine how many product returns this results in for Fitbit each year.

I have no idea what the "app gallery" is which seems to be the restriction here. The list of "Apps" that Fitbit supports has not appeared to change for my Fitbit and I have no idea what the benefit is of it.

Well as many of you may have seen, I have just be sent an email stating that I can pre-order the Versa 2, normally I would like to be one of the first to get my new Fitbit, but not feeling it, as it is there would be no point until they complete the work on being able to have more than one smartwatch on the same account, sorry Fitbit, lost me on this one.

I have sent a tweet to CEO also @parkjames

@PurpleRose   I agree 100%.   For sure I would've purchased the Versa 2 right out of the gate.   But now knowing that you cannot have multiple devices on one account.... nope.   I'm not getting it until this issue is fixed.    But it's been more than a year so not sure this will ever happen.   Pity.

Dear Fitbit:

I’m really TRYING to understand your logic.  Alas to date, I have been unable to do so.  Recently, I bought my wife a Versa so she’d have a choice depending on her mood/style for the day of using the Versa or Ionic.  Fitbit previously allowed multiple Fitbits and there was no indication on the packaging there would be ANY problem whatsoever having both an Ionic and Versa.  Imagine our irritation to discover you can’t!

Why?  Who is the brilliant product manager who said “Lets LIMIT our customers to ONE smart watch!”  Who’s the forward-thinking executive who said “Great idea!”?  You do realize that you haven’t had a profitable year since 2015, right?  I would expect any company I would invest in to be looking for ways to INCREASE sales – NOT PREVENT THEM

You further realize that the idea of multiple devices accessing a store is not a new concept, right?  Apple has been doing it (iPhone/iPad).  Android has been doing it.  Amazon has been doing it.  Microsoft has been doing it… what makes your developers so “special” they can’t figure out how to do it?  Perhaps you should consider firing the unimaginative developers and project managers you currently have and instead hiring some folks from Google, Apple, Amazon, or Microsoft to help out.  Of course, you have to have the money to do that and since your executive management seems incapable of making good decisions in the fast-paced world of technology, it’s quite possible you won’t last long enough to figure it out (unless someone acquires you).

Yes, I’m being sarcastic… hopefully dripping with it… but that doesn’t mean I’m not seriously looking for answers to the questions of WHY this was thought to be a good idea and more importantly, WHY it’s not on the road map and it’s JUST “Under Consideration” almost a year and a half after the feature has been requested.

I am still waiting for contact information for the **ahem** who runs Fitbit. I asked several posts ago but OBVIOUSLY Fitbit does not monitor these forums. What a total waste of both my time and my hard earned money.

Again they need to fire the Chairman and the entire board of directors! They are trashing the company and sending it down the dumps.  Those of us pn this thread didn't "cheap out", we spent the money for Fitbits supposed top of the line devices. You would think someone in authority would have the decency to respond to the hundreds of dissatisfied customers!

What a sham of a poorly run business!!!

@AJOIII Fitbit never promised to implement every suggestion.

In the Fitbit store it does say that only one tracker with Fitbit OS may be added.

The problem is in the way Fitbit handles the data for the Fitbit os devices. They have stated that they are looking into changing this which will allow multiple units.

Rich_Laue,
I see no reason to purchase another fitbit until this changes.
The Versa is a great watch, however with the current way things operate it
doesn't make sense to get either the upgrade or a different style.

Once they allow more than one device to send data to the app, I will add to
my collection.

They do an extremely poor job of advertising the fact two devices will not work on one account.

And to top it off its their high end devices that don't play well together.

It would not be such a shock to find the low end devices don't work together, that is expected as they don't have as many features, but when you step up and spend the big bucks you would reasonably expect them to have all the bells and whistles!

Poorly managed company at best....

@AJOIIIwhilst I appreciate that Fitbit do not promise every suggestion, this to my mind is basic, when I am talking to friends who have devices from other brands.

Whilst I appreciate the information regarding only using one device may be on their store, I do not purchase from there as I find it cheaper elsewhere and obviously retailers and TV shopping channels are not giving their customers this information.

I'm asking that they support multiple tracking devices on the same account.
It's an obvious shortcoming in their current software. It's how their
software should work!

I have tweeted and voted as well. Agree that this is obvious FAIL in software development and should have been addressed prior to turning out more smartwatch products (Versa 2) if multiple devices can’t be utilized for different applications. It’s simply ludicrous and maddening!

It's absolutely insane that we can't have multiple current Fitbits linked to a single account.

I have a Versa Lite (love it!) and got an Inspire HR to use when I want more of a 'fitness band' style (e.g., when I decide to wear a nice traditional watch on my main watch hand, or when I'm biking and want something lighter/less intrusive). I am blown away by the fact that I can't link them both to my account.

To switch I need to sync, unlink, link the other one, and sync again...which is doable, yes, but is much less intuitive (and more time consuming) than it ought to be. I should be able to have them both linked, and just put one down and put the other on and go about my business without any reconfiguration.

This is so irritating. I tried an Inspire a few months ago to see if it'd be a viable alternative to the Zip, which FitBit has quietly abandoned after failing to get it to work with Android 9 (after "working hard to resolve the sync problems" for 13 MONTHS and failing) only to find that you can't have a Versa and an Inspire linked to the same account.

I just received two Garmin Vivofits (along with nice little clips for them). the Garmin app actually allows me to connect BOTH of them to the same account and set one as the primary. They both sync with the app with ZERO issues in Android 9 and the app gives me the total number of steps based on the counts from both trackers. Zero fuss on my part other than setting the frequency at which the auto-syncs occur. They just work... together.

FitBit, if your software engineers can't figure out how to do what your competitors are already doing very well, maybe you should hire some new software engineers.

Good to know about Garmin, I will check this out myself.  Disappointed because I got family and friends to buy more Fitbits recently before being aware of this.

For a "technology" company, Fitbits "lack of technology" is extremely disappointing! And even worse is their reluctance to do anything about it.

Complacent and going down the drain........

I really liked my TomTom but it was much bigger than even my Iconic. The new Charge is good size for my small wrist but it looks like there will be a Garmin in my future. My Grandson and his Wife tried to talk me into Garmin but I resisted. If I had known what I know now it would have been a no brainer!

Anyone looking for a lightly used Iconic and Charge 3. It really really ticks me off because I invested in extra charging cables and wireless earbuds to go with them!

It looks like less than 500 of the hundred of thousands that have models that are affected seem to want this option.

@Rich_Laue That's such a silly statistic to throw out there. Are the hundreds of thousands of FitBit owners with affected models all registered and active on these Community Forums? The only number that'd even make any sense to reference in that regard is the number of users registered on these forums who have actually even seen this particular feature request discussion. Of those, how many voted for it?

Here's another silly statistic: Of the more than 2300 Feature Suggestions that have been made here since this one was posted, this one is ~ the 20th most upvoted one. 🙂

Exactly!

Thank you for the pertinent statistics!

Fitbit, are you hearing us?

You know what's funny in a very unfunny way? https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1715

It opens:

Adding more than one Fitbit device to your account gives you the convenience of switching between devices while still seeing a holistic view of your daily activity on your dashboard. You may want to:

  • Wear a smaller device for all-day step counting and a larger device for workouts.
  • Wear a smaller device while you sleep.
  • Use MobileTrack if you forget your Fitbit device at home.
  • Switch between any devices you like. Your account can have one of each device model and MobileTrack.

Then you look at their ENTIRE CURRENT product line for adults... ALL the devices are excepted from the above!

For Fitbit Charge 3, Fitbit Ionic, Fitbit Inspire series, and Fitbit Versa series, only connect one of these devices to your account at a time.

I consider that pretty customer unfriendly. I mean, they acknowledge there are reasons to do it and then remove the ability from everything they sell!

SunsetRunner

@LeeW1 Yup, I grind my teeth every time I see reference to that. They clearly have much of the code in place that's needed to support this; I use my now-abandoned-by-FitBit Zip and Inspire together on the same account and, with the exception of the Sync issues that have plagued the software since I updated to Android 9 a year ago, they work well together. I've had the same success pairing Versa & Zip as well as my Charge 3 and Zip, too.

Yes, the Zip's only activity is steps, but the solution is simple: When multiple devices report the same activity within the same time period, only save the activity from the "primary" device and discard the activities from the other devices.

I'm assuming you all have read the FAQ

Actually i look at reality. Besides you have everything in front of you to find out the relationship i have with Fitbit.

You know what's even funnier @LeeW1 you have selectively quoted  and left out the following.

Screenshot_20190909-093721_Chrome.jpg

@coachgeorge if you knew more about me you would know that at times i get very frustrated with Fitbit. One of the frustrations is over the multiple, or lack of multiple trackers in a single account.

However Fitbit has mentioned that they are looking into adding this feature to the trackers running Fitbit

OS but it will require a major rewrite of the way the server works. Personally i feel they need to test this, troubleshoot, and make sure it is working correctly when it gets released.

@AJOIII, who simply stepping up, legend simply refers to the number of posts made.

@SunsetRunner does your 20th up vote include the many suggestions that have been released? While some only have a couple hundred votes, these where easy things to add and some where going to be added without the suggestion.

Other suggestions implemented have 6,9 and even 11

As for a response from Fitbit? How many suggestions can you find with more than a canned response?
