Allow multiple devices on the same account (Sense/Versa series, Inspire, Charge & Luxe)

Be allowed to have both a Fitbit Versa and a Fitbit Ionic on the same account so you can easily switch between them.

I currently use an Ionic. For my birthday I received a new Ionic, which is a different colour to my original, and I was delighted to have the two watches, which I thought I would be able to use interchangeably (I sometimes forget to charge the battery). However, when I came to add the new one to my account I couldn't understand why I was unable to do so without replacing my original one, and asked for instructions. I wrote to Customer Service who explained that I couldn't, and suggested I posted here. I now find that this is an issue which has existed for some time without Fitbit having addressed it, and I an flabbergasted. It is not an issue for Apple watches, and I happily can switch between different kindles and ipads, so it really sucks that I cannot set up an Iconic 2 and switch between my Iconic1 and Iconic 2, as it is clear that the technology exists to do so. Will this issue ever be resolved, and if so what is the current timeframe?

I'm posting this on 2020-10-06 and it looks like the moderator said they were considering it back in 2014!?! Here goes my story: I currently have on my app the charge 2, flex 2 and recently had the versa 2. I recently purchased the sense and this was the first time I was hit with this 'can't have multiple devices that use the app store on the same account' so I removed the versa 2. Seems extremely short-sighted. I can see the limitation on wearing 2 devices on the same account at the same time. But not allowing multiple devices because of the app store? I sincerely hope that the developers are working on this. My plan was to sell my charge 2 and flex 2 and get the Inspire since it's waterproof. But now, I'm stuck with trying to suck the life out of the flex 2 (the battery is dying a slow death) for water activities and the only other back up I can use is the flex 2. Really disappointing. I have been with Fitbit since day one. I have to say this almost makes me think about looking elsewhere for my tracker needs...PLEASE allow us to connect more than one device SOON and don't state in your articles/FAQ the convenience of switching between devices when, unless you have really old devices, you can no longer do that since all devices now use the apps. 2020-10-06 ME.

I own 2 Fitbit devices. Right now, whenever I decide to wear one, I have to 'Set up a Device' for it all over again. I would like that both devices are set up once and I have the option to pair up with the device being worn on the phone app by selecting the device stored on my account.

Hi @Apidae, thanks for explaining why you would like to have the option to set up multiple devices on the same account. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". I hope to see you around.

I used to be able to have 2 trackers on a single account.  I can have an old Surge and Versa 2 on the same account.  I just bought a Charge 4 to replace the Surge that is barely working any more.  Unfortunately, I can't have both the Versa 2 and Charge 4 on the same account.  I use them for very different purposes and it is a pain to have to go through the pairing every time I need to change.  I don't understand why this capability was removed for your more recent trackers.  It's definitely a huge step backwards.  This is very frustrating and disappointing.  It appears to have been an issue for years, but there seems to be little effort from Fitbit to resolve this problem.

It should be possible to have a more advanced tracker like the charge 3/versa/sense for normal daily use and a cheaper tracker you don't mind getting damaged in the same account.
Right now no fitbit from the new generation can be combined in a single account, not even a top-end sense and low-end inspire.

It would be nice to be able to add a seperate device to the same account.

why my charge3 get's removed from my account when I try to link an Ionic? How is the multi device support here as advertised?

If you have any of the Fitbit products released in the last 3 years, you can only have 1 on your account. Fitbit seems unwilling to resolve this issue.

And this is why instead of paying nearly the cost of a new device I am moving to Garmin. Fitbit do not care about retaining customers.

I totally understand, and would like to hear some feedback from Fitbit
regarding why they are not listening to their customers.

Yes, pretty much every other company in the fitness tracker business allows multiple devices on the same account. It’s pretty frustrating that Fitbit thinks that a single device can support different activities equally well. Good luck.

Agreed.... the moderator of this forum said it would be put “Under Consideration” which is a polite way of saying we are not going to be doing this. It’s too bad it’s such a pain and quite expensive going to another service.

do I understand right, from 2015 you had multi device support and for new products aprox. 2017 you removed this functionality (aka regression instead of development) silently and new customer just find this out by accident in your setup dialog "...want to switch?" instead of clearly stating my, our SW department is incapable to maintain current functionality so we remove your old product from your account and replace it with your new tracker...? Fitbit any comment?

I, like many other Fitbit users, are becoming very tired, and frustrated with this appalling attitude from Fitbit.

The "under consideration " , simply means. Its gone in the bin. End of.

Again, like many of your loyal customer base, I am now seriously considering going elsewhere for a tracking device.

The below "get out clause, says it all.

I am expected to pay the cost of another device every year for full stats.

Which is why I will be leaving before the premium subs are due!

They are just money grabbing, putting profits before people who now just happy with their lies and pushing us onto other companies platforms.

There is certainly no wish to retain any customers.

This thread has  been active for several years and so far zero comment from Fitbit.

I have gone on several product review sites and left highly negative reviews of the newer products because of this issue as well as negative comments on Fitbit customer (lack of ) service.

I encourage everyone to do the same. Perhaps this will get some attention from Fitbit management.

When my current Fitbit devices die, I will be buying Garmin products.

Yes, after years of inaction on this request, it's pretty clear this a change that Fitbit does not want to make.  But I've found a make-do workaround that works for me.

If you want to stay with Fitbit, the only workaround to have multiple devices on the same account (and it's not a perfect solution by any means), is to use older legacy Fitbit trackers, which can be added even if you have one of the newer ones on your account.  In my case I have a Versa which is my one newer model, but also on the same account I have a Charge HR, a Charge 2, an Alta HR and a Blaze - so that's 5 trackers on the same account that sync up with each other and I can switch back and forth without having to do the uninstall/reinstall dance.  Unfortunately you can't get these older trackers from Fitbit anymore, but they're available on eBay, Craig's list, and Amazon - probably other places too.

I'm honestly baffled that Fitbit seems so reluctant to allow customers to have multiple newer model trackers on the same account, and/or offer older model "classic" trackers to those customers who want. I can only assume this fits their current business model in ways I fail to understand.

Can someone please explain to me why more than one device that uses the app gallery can't be connect to a fitbit account? I have seen many requests for this and the "solution" is that it is not possible.
Why? Surely there is a way to code the app to differentiate two devices. What am I missing?

Yes, that is what I do, I have an Ionic and Charge 2 in daily use with a Surge now and again.  I also have a Versa, don't use it much, a old Charge HR and an even older Charge (model 1), but the button fell off that.  I would use the Versa more if it was on the same account as my Ionic, but as it is it doesn't do anthing the Ionic does and I like the bigger screen on the Ionic.

I think the problem is that all of Fitbit's server side stuff is single device only (of the same type), so that means a big change to allow multiple trackers of the same type.

Although I realise that there are lots of people on here moaning about the lack of multiple device support it is probably a very small percentage of trackers sold, like hardly on the scale and probably doesn't get much attention when they are competing to release new designs that generate income.

But you right it doesn't look like Fitbit are going to fix this anytime soon.  Perhaps they will break with the existing app/servers when they introduce the next flagship model, they could have done this with the Sense, but didn't.

I also have a versa, alta hr, charge 2 and charge 3 --- I am forced to pick between my versa and charge 3 to have multiple devices on my account, and chose to use the versa because it has more features than the charge 3 (which now sits in a drawer -- over $100 wasted) -- I would love it if one day, after more than 3 years, Fitbit would allow us to add all of our devices.. I don't think anyone actually associated with the company sees these posts, just the moderator and I am not sure they are actually Fitbit employees! Am I right?

Wow, it's hard to believe that, not only is this still an issue, but that Fitbit has actually gone backward with their multi-device support. I first posted on this thread almost 5 years ago, when I had 2 Fitbit Surges (different colors), and the app wouldn't let you have more than 1 of the same model (but you could have different trackers, as long as they were different models)... I still use a Charge 2 for sleeping, but I made the switch to Apple Watch last year... and while there are a couple of quirky differences that I'm not fond of, the pros greatly outweigh the cons (and my Apple Watch app has both my first and second Apple Watches connected to it... go figure). I think it's time I finally unsubscribe from this thread. I do wish you all the best of luck, and hope that Fitbit, at the very least, reverts back to allowing multiple (different model) trackers on your account!
