Allow night shift reminders to move (or customized hours)

Please allow night shift hours to be selected for reminders to move. I work 7p to 7a at the hospital and the current feature only allows half of my shift to be selected. It doesn't recognize those 12 hours as consecutive hours. It would also be helpful to select different time frames for different days. I work nights 3 days a week, but the rest of the week I am awake and active during the day. I'd like to customize the reminders for certain hours on specified days.

Absolutely. It's inconvenient that I can't set hours to go from p.m. to a.m.

I would also like to see the 250 steps per hour be changed to a 24 hour period because I work a crazy shift where my active hours or sometimes consecutive and sometimes split by sleep. It would be a lot easier to be able to see how active I am in a day instead of how many consecutive hours at certain times.

You can do this on the app. Change the timings by clicking 'Account', Click the 'fitbit' mine says blaze then 'reminders to move'. You can set the hours to whatever suits you:)

I was thinking that it would be awesome to have more time options for the reminder to move setting. I don't work normal hours as many since I work at a dispatch center overnight for LEO. So being able to be reminded overnight to move would be a great help. Since I know a lot of first responders use your products to keep track. Especially within out agency alone.

Thanks for reading and hopefully adding this in soon for all wareables 😊

Mine is set 7am-7pm as these are th hours I work/sat down the most.

I just got me an Alta, hoping to help me keep fit while working the graveyard shift only to find out that the "hourly activity tracker" is unavailable during my active hours. It defeats the purpose now. I'm very tempted to sell my Alta now since I can't track myself while I'm at work. Please fix this. It's 2017 now.

I know it is frustrating that you can only set it for 14 hours and it isn't night time friendly.  You "can" set the reminder time <if you are using a 24 hour format> by having the "start" time at 00:00 - 14:00 and then adjust it throughout the time you are up.  I had really thought they would have fixed this with their "Intention" Campaign but .................we weren't invited to that meeting.  I have this same frustration with every diabetes tracker I've ever tried.  It's more about their Data Collection than about how I live my life...so I've had to find ways to adapt.

Yes, I adapt too. However it would be an easy fix for them, they choose not to do it.

I did have a smart watch by another company that was able to reach order activity overnight which shows it can be done, but it to had to have settings changed when my shift pattern changed each week for the goal times. If fitbit could produce a watch that was more fluid and 'smart' with tracking the data for shift workers I would certainly be willing to buy it and pay more for it. At the moment like everyone else commenting I lose half of my activity because of the 14 hour restriction and that it doesn't roll past midnight. You can't even select the 14hrs to record until midnight only 2300hrs.

Yup that's true. Since they have 24 hours with sleeping there is no reason for there is no reason for them not to change it.

@ItzaMiztri @smythch @SamanthaS26 As I see it, the problem is that there are not enough of us fussing about this.  We need to recruit everyone we know to come here and make a comment about this, whether they own an Alta or not.  I expect that Alta sales would be stronger if this got changed and allowed for two split times  per day to accomodate those of us who are working over night.  It could be like from 1900 to 2300 and then from 2400 to 0700 which would work as you get your reminder to move before the next hour rolls over.  That way it would count everything.  I really wish they would listen to us.  Surely it can't be that hard to make a second time slot in a 24 hour period?  Granted the clock and step count has to have a point to reset every day and that still could be at midnight.  This would work if someone would only listen to this idea.

Agreed! 14 consecutive hours is fine but it doesn't allow you to go past midnight. Our ambulance night shift is 8pm to 8:30am which cuts it in half and you have to update/change it at midnight to keep the move going. 👎🏼

It doesn't need us to be able to set a time. If our devices can detect when we are sleeping, it can detect when we are stepping... all it should do is highlight the hours we do enough steps... and we set our own targets, 10hrs, 14hrs... it doesn't matter which ones!

I agree MsSpammy - I think if it just had a 24 hour clock so we could see how many active hours we have would be great.  I have a job that doesn't really allow me freedom to get up and move when working.  It can be frustrating at times....I was "on the go" all day but oh my only hit one hour today!

@SamShaw97 I know this but it doesn't allow for it to be done over night. I work 5:45 at night until 6:00 am and it won't allow to set for those hours of reminder. I would like to be able to set it in such manner and not just for that one day.

I work graveyard and went to set the reminder to move on my Blaze when I got home with it tonight and was super disappointed it doesn't work with my hours. 9:30pm - 6 am. I really wanted to use this feature.

I am having the same problem as a shift worker and they say it's because the Fitbit resets at midnight for calories and such which I appreciate. But then maybe create customizable windows of times on each day.  Ie 0000-0700 and 1900-2359 on certain days. If apple can have multiple alarms set for various times then I know there are brilliant programmers who can create customizable hours for an app.

@jbearlee Exactly why I brought this idea up. Not everyone works a regular 9-5 job. So i feel you. Hopefully with sharing this post and getting friends/family to vote on it helps get this updated faster.

For people that do shift work this really isn't ideal. You can't start from for example- 6pm and finish at 6am... you could only do am to pm or within the same day... this is so frustrating especially if you work nights and are active through the night

Come on Fitbit....Third shifters are the segment that is most desperate in need of the reminders to move and sleep tracking and overall fitbit features. We, as a group, are generally more sleep deprived and excerise struggling.  We need the fitbit to help us stay healthy.  Help us to help ourselves by allowing us to crossover that midnight settings barrier.  You could even allow us to set 2 time frames...for example, 6pm-11:59pm and 12am to 6am since crossing over seems to be a struggle for your software.  Shame on you for owning a forward thinking health company that can't (or won't) address simple time issues.

the dashboard allows you to set the time as AM or PM, so if you want the alarm at night, set the start time as PM and the end time as AM.

@firemouseIt doesn't work on my Alta to set it like that, because of the midnight reset. Really they need to allow you to set two different reminders to move or allow you to set a reminder to move that starts in one day and ends in another, but they haven't made that a programmable feature yet.

Jo2DaJo

Exactly. Until it's actually part of the programming it doesn't work. Not in the dashboard or app settings. I've tried every way and that's why I brought it up.

firemouse

I see, my apologies. I just actually tried it on my phone and it does not allow a PM start time with an AM end time.

I can also see the problem for people who work at jobs where they can't get up and move around.  So choosing your own 5-14 hours on a 24 hour clock would be better than having to choose a 'block' of time within a 24 time frame.

No worries @firemouse. I was hoping in a way what you said would work but no luck.
