Fallen Detection & Notification App

Recently, I have been thinking about what would occur if I fell down and either could not manage to get myself up or became unconscious whether within my apartment or elsewhere.

The fact is that I could not manage to afford one of those devices that can be used in such cases where emergency responders can be contacted and then be dispatched to the scene.

While in the process of thinking about this type of scenario and what potential options might be with which to address it, what came to mind is about how I already have the technology on my wrist, my Fitbit Charge 3 model fitness tracker smartwatch, that could do just what is needed should something along the above lines ever happen.

What would be required is to include an app within its main app that people with the device could select and program with contact information and the like for if and when something happens, like a fall or other need for assistance or alert 911.

So, with this in mind, I just called Fitbit and provided them with the details of my idea and the person who took my call wrote it up and will be passing along my suggestion for potential consideration.

Am hoping that Fitbit will seriously consider doing something meaningful along these lines. It could help save some lives.

They are never going to be given fall detection updates because they have
decided that the Google Watch will be the only one.

Fitbit is a lost cause for fall detection. You can get the Buddy app by lively that will do fall detection. Google is all about the Pixel watch and we are becoming a thing of the past. The Pixel does not work with IOS

I find it utterly ridiculous that Fitbit has had this suggestion for 3 years and that ALL Fitbit’s competitors do offer it already.  Especially since the Sense already has all the internal requirements to detect and call out family and/or EMS.  Excuse me while I go research which Apple Watch will best serve my needs.

Very true.
Fitbit is not very responsive to their user base. That's a ticker to a fast
demise. Users are what makes a product go.

This post includes 2 topics:

1. Alert for falling asleep
2. Alert for falling…to the ground

These are 2 entirely different things.

Since the Pixel Watch will get Fall Detection/Emergency SOS later on via an update, can you add this feature for the Sense 2 as well? It would be a very welcoming feature considering this has the same sensors as the Pixel Watch.

I would really really really like to see a fall detection feature added to the Sense 2 and Versa 4 at least. I have an iPhone so the new Google Pixel watch isn't even an option for me but I don't think any customers should have to buy a new $400 product for a safety feature anyways. I have been a loyal Fitbit customer for years and am now looking for a smartwatch for my mom but will not consider any product without fall detection as she is now 70. I wish I could get her a Fitbit because I trust the brand and am so familiar with the functionality but will now have to spend hours researching alternative brands that offer this feature I feel is necessary for her. The fall detection technology is available and would make Fitbit watches way more valuable to their wearers. Please consider adding the feature in a future (very near-future) software upgrade.

I would love Fitbit to provide fall detection. My mom has a Fitbit already and this would be a great feature. That way I feel more comfortable in case something happens to her and she doesn't need to learn an entirely new brand of smartwatch/tracker. At this time, I will be looking to get her a Garmin. Sorry Fitbit!

I am a 70 yr avid old horseback rider, often riding alone, and would love to have fall detection available on an iOS Fitbit product.

I’ve been a Fitbit user for many years but now I’m looking into to Apple watches as they have this feature.

Have the smartwatch monitor if a person has fallen over or lost consciousness.
Using GPS this could alert medial authorities of location, also you could program in phone carer information.
This could trigger a phone call back to the phone/watch for response.
On a false alarm a timer could be set for 10s with a button on app on phone to cancel

Well it certainly looks like Fitbit will never have a fall detection making it very hard being forced into proprietary companies like Samsung, Google Pixel and Apple. Google own Fitbit and the same methodology of fall detection prediction installed in Fitbit is installed in their pixel watch. Why can't they support Fitbit users instead of manipulating the customer?

The Fall Detection feature uses the Google Pixel Watch's accelerometer and machine learning to detect potential falls. When Fall Detection is triggered, your Pixel Watch will alert you and ask you if you want to call emergency services

The feature to detect falls would be very valuable. I am surprised it was not included in the sense 2. Please consider adding this feature as I believe it would add value to alot of fitbit owners.

I think Fitbit is likely to lose many customers to Apple Watch, if they
don’t offer a fall-detection feature.
