Fitbit Journal - Notes on the Fitbit app

How about a space in the app for a daily note. I would like to be able to leave a note on the daily results page. So that if results are high or low I would know why when looking back. IE: was I sick so my daily results were very low or were they extra good and for what reason? In sure folks would have lots of reasons to look back at results and would want to know what was what at that time. Ted

Agreed. I would also like to see expanded features for the journal itself.

  • View all the entries as a running list
  • Search entries for keywords words
  • Add and search tags/themes/categories
  • Search and Filter results based on Mood and Allergy input
  • Comprehensive graphs and charts comparing Mood, Allergy, Activity, Food, etc.
  • Additional Entries with drop down choices: Dream Activity, Energy Level, Digestive Activity, etc.
  • Expansion of the Allergy information

I also use the journal for a food diary. Well, I try to enter my food in the log; but the the food log leaves a lot to be desired. Several years ago I started journaling (on paper) my food consumption, physical activity, and digestive patterns to help identify food allergens. Having an online log is helpful so I don't miss entries because I forgot to bring my journal with me somewhere; but the current configuration makes it more difficult to go through the information. If I enter my food in the food section, and my reactions in the journal section; I have to keep flipping back and forth between the two and scroll through days to compare. It would be nice to let technology to the comparision for me and highlight those things for me. It would be very beneficial for the journal to interact more directly wiht the other features.

Personally, I view Mood and Energy as two different things. Sometimes I'm in a terrible mood; but have tons of energy and go for a run to try and clear my head. Sometimes I just split the difference when entering a value; but sometimes I side with one or the other... depends on my mood. Haha.  But, I see many opportunities to expand in the journal area.

Likewise, it is very subjective to rank allergy suffering. And maybe I'm just overanalyzing. But I often have to expand in the journal, and would love to be able to filter all that information. Somedays I have migraine headaches and inflamed sinuses... reminiscent of typical pollen allergy suffering. And somedays I break out in hives because of something I touched or ate. I don't really know the root cause; that's why I keep a journal to track and identify patterns.

Something that may also be beneficial would be tracking location. Keeping track of how much time one spends outdoors or in certain locations. Recently I awoke with a killer headache; but reflecting on my water intake didn't feel dehydration was the cause; then remembered I spent 3 hours at a show the night before in a historic theatre (built in the 1920s) and had to consider poor air circulation and potential allergens. Also, since I work at a desk; sometimes I don't get enough sunlight... so that would be neat to incorporate. In the future I see wristbands tracking temperature (body and environment) and detecting UV rays. 🙂

It would be nice when you track a run to be able to add notes (i.e., breaking in new shoes, nursing ankle injury, race day, etc.) to give a little more context around how your run went.  If this is too hard, even a way to rate the run with a drop down with options like 'felt great' 'meh' 'ok' 'try again tomorrow' or a smily face, frown face... something to give some context

The mobile app is well designed: when having a smaller display and no keyboard it's easing and limiting the functions given on the web for visualisation and logging of data. But one feature of the web is even more a mobile app feature but is missing there: the possibility to add a note to the food log.

Using my mobile to log data most often means I don't have the muse (the time, the right place) to log it in detail. In those cases I don't want to search the food database, I don't want to find out it's not in the database and so I would need to create it myself and then finally to have to estimate the calories right now (e.g. for a meal being in a restaurant). Especially as a logged food can not be edited in the food log - if you want to change the calories you have to edit the food in your private foods but this does not change the calories in your food log so you have to log it once again with the new values and you have to delete the entry with the old values from the log.

So I would really prefer to only add a note in such cases instead of logging a "real" food entry! And I think this is a must if the mobile app should excerpt and ease the most relevant functions from the web.

I too would love to have the journal function on the mobile site. I like it on the dashboard online but mostly check and update on my iphone. Please add it!

I'm writing in to agree! Please add the Journal/Mood section to the mobile app. I almost entirely use the mobile, rarely the web browser, but I'd love to have that as an option on the mobile. PLEASE please add!

I'd like to be able to ad notes next to my daily sleep stats, to record reasons why I was more restless or slept less that night.

Thanks for this feedback! Blogging on the go is a great idea. We'll let our team know.

A comment section where people could enter things that might happen that would effect how many steps a person would take in a day.  Such as if you are sick, or traveling by car or air, etc....  Not necessarily where you would actually log time you spend doing an activity like running or walking.

Please can you include a feature like a diary where we can record, what we were actually doing at s specific time, on a specific day. Ie at 3 30 walked to school. On another day sightseeing in Windsor. Or when very inactivate laid up with flu. It would be great to look back on to see why activity increase/decreased.

Add space for text notes on a recorded exercise on the FitBit app.  For example when using a stationary bike one can record the duration, start, stop times, calories, etc. but one can't record the simulated distance, output/hour averaged, etc.  A small text field (128 characters or less) would allow that information to be recorded.

I registered my FitBit on Oct 17 2014, planning to make good use of the Journal feature. But I find that this tile was discontinued for users who registered after Sept 28 2014 and I'm wondering why this is. This feature was one of the major reasons I could see for buying my FitBit. Is there any way it could be reinstated?

How about putting the journalling tile back on the dashboard (removed Sept 28 2014) AND including it on mobile apps? Why was it removed from the dash?

If we could make general health notes we could identify problem areas and not feel too guilty if we do not meet our daily goals. A person might record that an old injury was playing them up, or that they felt down and couldn't get motivated. They may even record that they felt depressed in the morning but then went for a nice long walk later in the day and felt better for it Smiley Very Happy

I apologize for my confusion, but can you please clarify:
The journal tab is available under the "Log" section, but only when you're using a computer?
I'm on the website on my iPad and wanted to use the journal/mood tracking feature, but when I visit the Log portion of the webpage I can only see Food, Activity, Weight and Sleep.

Thanks.

On the web dashboard, that's what the Journal is for (get onto the Log page, and it's one of the right-hand tabs).  Don't know if it's on the phone app.

I would like to journal when I am on the go. I'd I don't do it when I think of it, I forget. I would love to have all my info in one place at the time it occures for health reasons. Thank you!

I agree it would be nice to have the journal available on mobile. I would probably also use it to log my food if it was available. I don't count calories, but it would be useful to have a log of What I ate.

And, it would be a lot more useful to be able to scroll through journal entries as a continual list instead of going back and forth to the calendar.

It would be great to be able to add short notes via the Android app to help track things like sickness, starting a specific diet, why I slept poorly, if I'm on vacation or on a business trip, etc...

It might help to allow Dashboard users to type in their own personal notes for that day, week or even month. Say I am sick & therefore less active, I want to be able to make some remark on my Dashboard for myself. It would be great if it was a free text space, so the user isn't too limited.

Would be great to enter your mood for the day, how you are feeling etc. For instance, I am sick today and I'd like to have the history of why it looks like I am sleeping all day today 😉
