Heart rate zones alert feature

Many fitness enthusiasts and individuals of whom base their workouts on target heart rate zones would really appreciate a heart rate alert feature implemented into the new Fitbit Ionic as well -if possible ALL Fitbit watches. This feature would allow a Fitbit user to manually set their Fitbit watch to alert the user once their targeted maximum and minimum heart rate has been achieved while performing a workout. Â The watch would vibrate on the user's wrist alerting the user when their selected heart rate has been accomplished or met allowing the user to more cater their workouts to stay within a selected threshold. Â Implementing this feature will also serve well as a safety feature which can alert the user when their calculated heartrate is dangerously high or above the maximum threshold that they set enabling the user to adjust their workout accordingly. Â Some Fitbit users I can imagine and many other individuals have cardiovascular/heart related issues which prevent them engaging in a workout that is too intense therefore a heart rate alert feature implemented into the new Fitbit Ionic would make the watch more marketable to the present customer base, a broader audience of fitness enthusiasts, and desirable to a whole new market of individuals of whom have cardiovascular/heart issues and will really appreciate a heartrate alert feature implemented into their fitness/activity trackers. Overall, implementing this feature will likely increase popularity of the watch, increase revenue, and appeal to a wider range of individuals that are taking steps to improve their health through daily workouts but are limited to what they can do due to cardiovascular/heart concerns. Â Implementing this feature can likely be as simple as have software engineering add it to a software/firmware update which will allow it to perform identical to the silent/vibrating alarm feature already included in most Fitbit watches anyhow.

Yes! I like everything about my FItBit but to exercise, I have to use my Mio just so I get heartrate notifications. Too bad it's not an option, seems easy enough to implement.

I suspect that their lawyers don't want them to implement HR alerts because
the HR can be wildly inaccurate at times, maybe sending people needlessly
to the ER. They need to fix that first.

I would like to suggest a heart rate notification functionality for the Charge 2, meaning an option to set a certain heart rate and being notified when it is reached.

As the Charge 2 constantly measures your heart rate, this could help detect heart failures.

I agree that this should be an option. Just about every exercise article or book I have ever read states that you should never exercise above 80% for very long.

We need an ability to set a target bpm and be alerted when we’ve hit or exceeded that number. Then we’ll know to back off a bit and bring the bpm back down.

lizfitbit,

what is the app you are referring to? what's the name?

"I also wanted to let you know that this Feature Suggestion has been developed by various third party developers, and can be downloaded from the Fitbit App Gallery available on Fitbit Smartwatches."

thanks.

can you give a name of a third party app so I can test? thanks I just want to be notified in what zone I am when training like the Garmin.

O would like a lot this feature. I think is one of the principal reasons of having a hearth rate monitor, be able to see when you are in an specific heart rate zone

I would like to see a heart rate alarm added to any of the fitbit watch models.  I'm looking to buy one for my family members who have hypertension and need to stay below a certain heart rate, as well as my aunt who has problems with her blood pressure dropping below a certain point.  An audible would be great as sometimes I don't notice the vibration on my alta HR or charge 2.

Yes please! I would like to see not only vibrating alerts when I am above / below a heart rate zone I have programmed, but ALSO the ability to program a coached interval workout based on HR. I want to be able to program my watch to alert me to stay in Zone X for warm-up, then X mins in X zone 4, then X mins in recovery zone 2, etc. I want that to be fully customizable.

+1 for this. I know the Garmin bands have this feature and it is definitely a consideration when choosing which tracker to purchase for those who train to a target HR. It would be super useful if I could set different target heart rate ranges in the Exercise Shortcuts and have my Charge 2 alert me via vibrations if I need to work harder to reach the target HR during a particular workout activity or ease off sightly to drop it back down. Maybe 3 quick vibrations to tell me to move it and one long one to let me know to back off a little.

Thanks for listening.

The basic way to calculate your maximum heart rate is to subtract your age from 220. For example, if you're 45 years old, subtract 45 from 220 to get a maximum heart rate of 175. This is the maximum number of times your heart should beat per minute during exercise. With this in mind I would like to see my fitbit send me a warning when I exceed my maximum heart rate.

I recently started Zumba as my cardio exercise and have found that after my workout that my peak was over my recommended bpm.  But because I am having fun, and therefore my body isn't paying attention to how much cardio I am exerting, I cannot gauge when to slow down.  I do try to check my Fitbit throughout the workout, but that can get annoying.  An alarm  for when you are over your heart bpm would so advantageous such as that when you have reached your step goal.  Pleeeeaaasseeee add this feature in the near future.

I miss that since my chest strap him failed. My husband has to watch his carefully and I have ordered another. I bought a ionic because I’ve been a faithful Fitbit one user and love their exceptional customer service. I hope they work on this and add it.

I'm so glad to see that this comment made it over to the suggested updates!!!

Just last night I was at my boot camp class and from listening to my body I felt that I should be pretty close to my max heart rate but every time I had a second to look at my Ionic it showed I was in "range". I started to feel pretty dizzy so I walked it out a bit. When the exercise ended, Ionic showed my high at 186 (my max is 176 ) but I thought to myself that must have been what I was feeling and I need to be more careful. However, when I got home and looked at the detail my HR had actually climbed to 192 (EEEEEKKKK).

I'll have to look into another option to track my max HR but would LOVE LOVE LOVE if Fitbit implemented it as an alarm or something that vibrates so then I know the second I hit my max.

Thanks!!

Thank you for working on this. It’s an important feature and I hope In becomes available soon.  Although I can see my heart rate on my watch manually it’s difficult to read while running and it doesn’t stay on the screen and you have to find it. Again hardc to do while working out.

During exercise it can be dangerous to exceed pulse... I suggest to be able to set an upper value that once passing it the alarm will be set

Can next update for ionic include the ability to set an alarm based on max heart rate

A software update to let you know, using a special vibration, that your heart rate is in the real calorie burn range and another to let you know that you are out of the calorie burning range.

E.g.

same number of steps on two separate days, one day was mostly fast walking pace the other was various types of steps, different calorie burn rate.  When I walk I want to be reminded that I am not in the calorie burning range so I can up it.

Thanks

Does that mean a software update has been implemented or will be in the future ?

Kind regards

This would be awesome for me.  I only know I have exceeded my max heart rate when I have synced with phone.  I was peaking at max for 30 year old (220-heart rate) the other night and my max is 162 ...   I have had one heart attack and could do with avoiding another..... 😀

Are those in another app or part of Fitbit ?

I was suggesting it as a software update. I hope they do it.

These sound like external apps. What I am suggesting is a setting within Fitbit app that alerts me when I am at the optimum heart rate for calorie burning during a walk. Also advised me when I leave that optimum range.

Loving my Fitbit Charge 2 so far, however, an audible alarm or vibration during workouts to indicate I’m exceeding or not meeting my target heart rate would be greatly appreciated. It’s a little difficult to constantly check the display during workouts, especially since I’m not wearing my reading glasses at the time. 😄
