Idle Alert

I would love to have an "Idle Alert" feature added where the device would vibrate if you've been idle for a certain length of time.

Came here to ask: Do you have any plans to offer an inactivity alert to any of the existing or future trackers? I love my fitbit one (I've had it for years with no issues) and my friends and family all have them, but because I have a desk job that involves A LOT of sitting, I really think a tracker with an inactivity alert would be better for me than just an activity tracker. It has me thinking of getting a different brand of device when I'm ready to upgrade. But, I'd rather stay in the fitbit family.

Casting my vote for an idle alert feature on Fitbit charge HR!!!!

It won't let me vote, maybe because I have the Charge HR, but yes please, the idle alert is very obviously missing. I was previoulsy using a garmin watch and I miss that feature. When discussing the Fitbit Charge HR with others looking to buy an activity tracker it is always a surprise the idle alert is not included.

I just boght the Charge HR last night.  A big part of my decision to buy was the idle alert.  I read some reviews that said the Charge had this.  Maybe I got it confused with the Garmin....   I was very dissapointed to find it does not have this capibility.  Do you have plans to add this feature?

shame. but good luck getting a response from Fitbit on here. you'll see they've not responded to a single post - this particular post starting some 18 months ago...

If Fitbit won't respond here, maybe they will to more 'Public' requests via Social Media? I've just tweeted them with a link to this thread: @bootbrush: Hey @Fitbit your users want to know when we will have an Idle Alert like other wearable trackers do?! https://t.co/eKwRT2HXQK #wakeup Maybe if we all tweeted/Facebooked etc our requests, it would be too public for Fitbit to ignore?

There's a whole thread on this under 'Idle alert'; we've been asking for this feature for over 18 months - before the Surge even came out....!

If Fitbit won't respond here, maybe we should be asking in a more public forum that they *cant* ignore? I've just tweeted them, with a link to this thread - if we all asked via social media, maybe they'd have to respond, or else risk losing face - and new customers...

YES!!!  UP has the idle alert.  Surge is supposed to be better than UP but it lacks an idle alert.  VERY Important when at a desk job.

Yes, if you tweet @Fitbit & @FitbitSupport You will normally get a response. Companies are pretty much obligated to respond on Twitter if they care at all about their social media presence. I can't tell you how many times I've tweeted companies and gotten replies promptly. When I tweeted them they pointed me to this actual thread. So they are definitely aware of the massive amount of requests for this feature. But the squeaky wheel gets the oil. The more of us that request this feature here and twitter and on their facebook page and any other social media outlet, the greater the likelihood that they'll actually do something.

That is a great idea about using twitter and otehr social media. Thanks for the reminder.

Well I went ahead and got the HR and don't regret it.  Definitely a wiser decision than the Jawbone for me I think, despite this MASSIVE shortcoming. And the Fitbit people have a much better overall track record, even if they are poor at responding to feature requests.

For now I use MotionX 24/7 on the iPhone for an idle alert (I still carry my phone in my pocket and wear a Pebble on the other wrist for alerts) and am trying to get into the habit of not needing one - but will continue to strongly request this feature so that all fitness is in one place (also MotionX is a 10%/day battery drain, which is a fair bit).  Good idea on the social media.

After reading about your pebble, I just checked on othersmart watches. I didn't realize that Apple sport watch was only $349 and had everything I wanted - a HR monitor, idle alert, activity tracker, AND email, text, camera, music, et., et., et., ... and, of course, a watch! I think that is the direction I'll be going!

Keep in mind the Apple Watch has a very short battery life (less than a day) so is not suitable for sleep tracking, if that's important at all.

good point. also re; social media - if we all (who have it) got behind this feature, perhaps something might happen. a response would be a great start! i've tweeted both FitbitUK and FitbitSupport

I agree. I was under the impression this existed. I NEED to have the idle alarm.... Please make it happen. Maybe the quickest work around is adding it to the application?

Yes, I wold love an alert if I've been Idle for long period of time. I work a lot on my computer all day, and sometimes forget to get up to move. Before I realize it, it's time to clock out.

This feature request cannot be ignored and should be implemented in the next firmware update. This is a glaring ommission on Fitbit side. If not for the HR feature, I would have gone to the other competitors. Like someone else mentioned somewhere, if normal alarms can be set to vibrate to wake you up, I'm sure something similar like this can be implemented too.

Many people are also waiting patiently for the next firmware update and what we've gotten so far is still under testing. How many more months are we supposed to wait?

Tried to ask the question on facebook, just got a very generic answer pointing me back to another forum suggestion for idle alerts that had been closed despite the update not being issued. Looks like we're going to have to wait for it 😞

Whats the point of asking us to provide suggestions if they’re not interested to listen to the consumers. I’m sure judging by the volumes of feedback on this feature they could at least included this. Like you said either we will have a very long wait or they might just be using the feedback to include in their next device. I don’t have any problems with my charge hr but I also do not want to wait forever for such a basic feature either.

Absolutely needed. This missing feature is making me consider returning my Flex for a Jawbone Up. As a web designer it's really important to be reminded that I've been sat at my desk for hours on end and it's time to circulate the blood a little. Make it happen, soon!

After much debating, I just bought a Fitbit Charge over the Jawbone UP2. I am, however, very disappointed that there is no idle alert. I feel that this is an integral part of staying healthy - sitting at a desk all day is not good for anyone, and sometimes when I am very busy at work, I forget to move for hours. I would love to see an idle alert feature added to a future firmware update.
