Idle Alert

I would love to have an "Idle Alert" feature added where the device would vibrate if you've been idle for a certain length of time.

I would love this option. The functionality already exists within the device and the app. Please make it happen!

Please, please, please get an idle alert!!!  I sit at a desk for 10hrs a day!!!  I get sooo busy this would help get my butt in gear!  I always say "right after I do this I will go for a walk" and then I never do!  I need a little extra push!   Thanks!!!

Yes, please add a setting for idleness!

I think it would be a nice feature on the Charge (and other Fitbit trackers with a vibration alarm) to have an inactivity warning, that is if you have not moved for over a period of time the unit vibrates to indicate that possibly with a message on the unit.

If possible to have this feature would allow you to set a variable amount of time which, if exceeded, causes the Charge to vibrate.

As someone who is glued to a desk for a good amount of their day, I notice that time can just go past before you realise that you have sat still for 2 - 3 or more hours and something that makes me get up and move more on a regular basis would certainly help.

Totally agree with this. I realise this would reduce battery life, but it's something worth sacrificing.  Just a single 'zzzzz' on the wrist would be enough.

I have a Charge, but this should be avaialble, as an option, in all devices with a vibration function, except perhaps the One, which you probably wouldn't feel.  Certainly all the wrist - based ones.

I first commented on this almost a year ago now. Still no idle alert? All the hardware parts are there, right? I'd say this feature is probably one of the dealbreakers for people deciding between Fitbit and Jawbone.

Is anything happening with this?

This is a feature all competitors have. Indeed some Fitbit reviews mistakenly say the Fitbit has it too. I was disappointed to find it hasn't.

I recently replaced my fitness band with a FitBit Charge.  The one optin that I find myself missing is the movment reminder.  Due to my work, I end up sitting at my desk for extended periods.  It's easy for me to forget to get up and walk.  Would it be possible to add "Movement Reminders" to the FitBit Charge - so that, say, every 45 minutes it would vibrate and remind you to get up and move.  Thanks for considering this.

BUMP!

With all the studies coming out about 30 minutes a day of activity isn't enough if we're living a sedentary lifestyle, I'm surprised this isn't getting more traction with Fitbit. It's been a year and a half since Fitbit suggested it might come as a firmware update on existing devices and still... nothing. This is quickly going to be a key reason people go with Jawbone over Fitbit.

This definitely needs a bump, I think this would add significant value. These trackers are tools to help us track and motivate us.

I understand that it would take some time to program, and we "can" set silent alarms... however, to make the accesability a bit easier for your customers would make a huge difference.

+1 this should be a easy add

+1 to main topic.  If a user hasn't moved in x amount of time, an intuitive reminder to get up and move persists until movement is measured.

Agreed! How is this not a feature on the Fitbit!?

I would like this feature as well!

It would be great to be alerted when you're not moving for a certain period of time. It would honestly be more useful than 90% of the features already present on the device when it comes to actually improving your health.

Options could include: 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes etc.

Yes! An Inactive-For-Too-Long Reminder would be very useful and much needed!

This would be great to include on the Surge.  I'd like to see something like a 90 minute timer for it, and the ability to set "rest hours" so it doesn't come up while you are sleeping.  Perhaps a little guage line at the bottom of the clock display kinda' like a Garmin Vivofit?

It's been a year since this idea was proposed. Dear Fitbit, please, get on it already! :-1

This was advertised as a feature and was why I decided to upgrade from my Fitbit zip to the Flex. Very disappointed I have to set an alarm.

I agree. The Jawbones have this feature. It will automatically buzz you to let you know that you're being inactive. I believe that it is defaulted to buzz you once an hour during daytime hours (via a iOS/Android notification to save the tracker's battery) to encourage you to move about (even if it is just a short walk to get a drink of water).

It would be nice to set a "move it" alarm that buzzes (different # of times than other alarms) every preset interval of my choice (30/60/90/120 min) during my preset waking hours.

This feature has been requested since the beginning - it always pops up here but never really gets any steam. To me it's a no brainer, it knows when you're taking steps, and when you are not - to be able to set an alarm to alert you when you have been inactive for a certain time of day at certain intervals - I feel woud be worth looking into.

Adding one more comment that this is definitely a needed feature.

Competitive marketplace sees this as an implemented item already on most products (Up 24 comes to mind immediately, which is a last-generation device).

One other thing to note is that on an embedded platform, battery use for time checks could be a concern, using a granularity system that requires using blocks of the half hour or hour could be a solution to address this (minimizes the time based checks to see if the gap in time has occured since the last major movement).

Please add!! Much needed!

Great idea. Especially if, like me you work in a call centre or office
