Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

@humanista

The problem is that I am from Latin America, it's more expensive to send it back or use the refund policy of amazon, that keep them, so I have no other choice, hope they add some features of this asap.

I am kind of happy with the gadgets, the thing is those softwares updates, more sleep analysis and health kit integration, maybe more use of the iphone capacities they can use a lots of sensor of Iphone for better info for they costumers.

I would love for the Apple Health app to be compatible with the Fitbit, have recently bought a Fitbit and was disappointed to see it wasn't already a reality. Come on guys, get your act together!

You only need to download an App called Power Sync.. It's free on the App Store 😉

I downloaded the app & it works great. It would still be nice though if Fitbit & Apple would get over themselves & add this basic functionality.

So this still isn't a thing huh. Just bought the blaze and was hoping they'd have this feature by now. I don't really want an Apple Watch but if Apple Watch 2.0 comes out I think I'll be ditching this for that. Nice job fitbit

Hey, is anyone besides me having issues receiving your calendar notifications? I just had an recent update a couple of days ago and I been receiving my caller ID & text, but not the calendar.
And far as Fitbit integrating with IOS, I hardly doubt it. People been asking this number one question
since 2014 and they haven't made an attempt yet.

Well this kills the idea of me recommending Fitbit to everyone at work... 90% of us have iPhones and want HealthKit integration. Does anyone have recommendations about other devices that offer the same functionality as Fitbit but with the HealthKit integration?

While I did love my fitbit, I really wanted a smartwatch that integrated with my phone - which the apple watch does perfectly for me. However, it is a huge bummer that fitbit won't recognize the steps from my watch - only my phone, which I don't always carry with me everywhere. I would even be more than willing to pay for a subscription to fitbit in order to have my steps record!!! Please, do SOMETHING to help us getting fitbit to sync up with health kit....pretty please?!?

I hope you guys add this. I've been waiting for this ever since I started tracking steps for my iPhone. I have an Apple Watch & it's a pain of not getting at least 300+ steps in that was synced from my watch. I really hope that this feature gets added in soon because I really want this feature to be added in so that I can get a few extra steps!!

Thanks!

This would be so helpful it's really annoying that it doesn't sync with apples health kit but apps like Nike do

FitBit doesn't sync to HealthKit because FitBit doesn't want to sync.  That's it in a nutshell.  The powers that be at FitBit got their panties in a knot over Apple developing its watch.  They saw it as competition.

FitBit lacks the integrity to respond honestly to the issue.  The integrity issue is also present in how they claim iOS compatability.  Again, it's what they don't say that is far more significant than what they do.  (Consider this thread still labeled "Under Consideration".)

Prior to the grossly insulting handling of this, I was a diehard FitBit enthusiast who would have looked at an Apple Watch as I was jumping off the Golden Gate!

I refuse to give my money to a company that mistreats its customers.  In my mind, that's what FitBit has done.  Their choice.

There are a lot of wearables out there.  If HealthKit is something you value, I suggest you find a product and company you are happy with.  If you have a new FitBit and value HealthKit integration, I'd return the FitBit.  Anything under consideration for 2 years is not happening.

I'm actually looking at getting the Apple Watch now as I have an iPhone as it seems Fitbit won't be doing anything about it which is ridiculous as there is obviously the demand for it to be integrated

We all need to tweet our dissatisfaction. Moaning on here obviously does nothing, That can be seen by 135 pages of complaints and no resolution.

Agreed, tweet @fitbit with #addapplehealth, this way anyone who follows Fitbit will also learn about how Fitbit doesn't support Apple Health.

What I expect from Health Kit? One centralized spot for all my health-related-data.

In product manager lingo: I expect freedom of data lock-in! Smiley Wink

I'll jump to something like Withings if this doesn't happen by the time my Aria reaches EOL.

So I got this going… please share away and include #FreeMyFitbit to start the ball rolling. At least it might force a definitive answer.

To those wondering about the Apple Watch, I have one.  My husband has one.  Our two sons each have one.

All four of us were previously FitBit customers (for several years).

I bought one of the first available.  My husband got his a few months later.  We told our kids (adults) they were getting them for Christmas if they wanted them.  One couldn't wait and went to the Apple Store and bought one.  The other opened his on Christmas morning.

We are all very happy with our decision to go with the watch.  I'm actually looking forward to the second generation, since we know Apple only gets better.  One of us had a problem charging.  A quick trip to the Apple Store resulted in a replacement watch.

I mentioned I would never have considered purchasing an Apple Watch had it not been for FitBit's refusal to sync with HealthKit.  That was and is a deal breaker for me.

Hello all Fitbit faithful.

Did you ever think that Apple Health is the app that doesn’t want to play ball with Fitbit? They are head to head competitors for the fitness market. Read the business stories every day. Fitbit is David and Apple is Goliath.

I have a Fitbit Flex, which I love as I really like the Steps and Sleep components on the Dashboard.

I also have an Apple Watch which I like for the Heart Rate readout and the Activity App. Both sync to Apple Health through Sync Solver. There is a path for both to give customers what they want. Fitbit is price friendly, Apple Watch is the top of the line and 200 to 300% more than the Flex in price.

I am happy with both, but I must weigh in that that Fitbit Dashboard is more user friendly than Apple Health. There are choices. Good for all of us. It is apples and oranges. We can succeed in achieving our goals on multiple platforms.

If you understand how the Apple Health Kit was setup, then the answer is no. It's Fitbit at fault here, not Apple Health app. Health Kit (Health App as you know it) it's open for any app to save their data into it. This way all health data is centralize and standarize for any app in the market to read and wrtie to it. This way, no matter what brand or app you use, it will have access to your health data. Fitbit refuses to make their app compatibale with Health Kit.

Many of the commentors here understand the situation quite well. As long as Fitbit has an Apple Developer licence (which they do, seeing as their iOS app exists), then they have unlimited access to EVERY one of the APIs provided by apple. This is the same for all developers, big or small. This is also why apps such as SyncSolver can even exist. They simply get what data they can from Fitbit (very restricted) and put it into HealthKit (very open).

The reason that some data doesn't transfer well to the Health app using SyncSolver or a similar application is because of the limits Fitbit applies on what data can be retrieved from their system, not because of any limit Apple is imposing. This is also why FAR more apps and brands will synchronise with Apple Health than with Fitbit. This is exactly why so many people want Fitbit to sync with Apple Health; it will improve compatibility between apps and brands.

I'm glad that you seem content with buying two seperate devices to achieve what one device should be able to accomplish, but many of us do not think that is acceptable.

Thanks for your feedback @gutsma. I really wish I had bought an Apple Watch, or a Pebble Time (Time 2 just announced!). I will wait for the next generation and never buy Fitbit again.

> “Did you ever think that Apple Health is the app that doesn’t want to play ball with Fitbit?”

No. Apple opened its doors to Fitbit when Fitbit first started coming on the market, establishing its iOS user base by selling their products in the Apple Store. I was one of those early adopters who bought my first Fitbit through the Apple Store. When Apple introduced HealthKit, Fitbit refused to integrate and continues to claim that integration is “under consideration”. That was over 2 years ago. As a result, Apple stopped selling Fitbit products through its stores. Apple HealthKit’s API remains open to all companies and developers. Fitbit is the one that continues to refuse playing ball with this essential feature which is the subject of this thread.

> “I also have an Apple Watch which I like for the Heart Rate readout and the Activity App. Both sync to Apple Health through Sync Solver.”

Sync Solver is a third party program that does not transfer the complete set of data on a time point basis. It requires manual and conscious use of this app on a daily basis (huge inconvenience and time waster). Sync Solver is under the mercy of Fitbit’s control of data flow. Sync Solver’s servers are in China and have been prone to hacking. If you don’t care about where your health data goes, feel free to use it (actually, it’s not free… you have to pay extra for a feature that should have been implemented by Fitbit in the first place).

> “… [lots of @steffiegle personal opinions stated]… but I must weigh in that that Fitbit Dashboard is more user friendly than Apple Health.”

Again, things like personal preferences including the Dashboard is just that: a personal preference. It has nothing to do with the subject of this thread which is the request for Fitbit to integrate with Apple’s HealthKit. More importantly is the request for iOS users to have control of their OWN data and not to be deceived and manipulated by Fitbit as it has been doing for the last two years as evidenced by the mere existence of this thread.

> “We can succeed in achieving our goals on multiple platforms.”

The goal of this thread is to request Fitbit to integrate with Apple HealthKit. If you’re happy with what you have, then this thread is not relevant to you. Of course, unless you have a concern for Fitbit’s stocks. You can count on an uprising from iOS users as more and more discover the importance of HealthKit and find that their beloved Fitbits are not updating its data into it.
