Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Muon,

I received that response first, to which I responded with clips from the thread. I all the comments of people moving to other systems or wishing that they would say anything.

The squeaky wheel gets fixed, or shafted. I'll always take my chances and keep squeaking.

Lets go... there is a massive portion of your base that wants to see this update... drop whatever the hell you guys are working on and focus on this first.... otherwise you'll be losing most of us to competitors... and you won't be able to win us back. I'm maybe a week away from buying someone elses product and giving up on fitbit

Well, like most of you I also have received the dreaded 'We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit.' and also like you I am very disappointed.

Consider this Fitbit:

1. What do you  have to lose by integrating with HealthKit?

2. People want their health and fitness data aggragated

3. What do you stand to lose if you don't integrate with HealthKit? :

  • Future people will leave your platform for one that does
  • Even if you come out with a new product that wows people you will be competing against products that WILL integrate with the Health API and many folks will ignore your new offering

Conclusion: I have had a Fitbit Ultra, 2 Fitbit ones (wife and myself) and the Aria scale. While I like your website I tend to use DigiFit BECAUSE they have partnered with you and import sleep, step and weight data and present the data in aggragated fashion and find trending to be important in my fitness program (which DigiFit does well). The upsell on both sites is to encourage a 'premium' experience. The premium experience is aggragated data that will show trends. I don't need a coach.

If you chose to not integrate with Apple, then I will simply not purchase your products any longer and buy those that do.

It is unfortunate that Fitbit doesn't seem to care... And perhaps from their stand point HealthKit doesn't provide anything new... But truthfully that doesn't really matter... Fitbit your customers want the play with the new tech... Really it isn't your call... In the tech world the daring win... Stopping to decide how your clients should use their data... Well it is my data and if I want to have it in HealthKit then I will find a way to make that happen ( Apple Watch, garmin, jawbone)

you make a great product but I can't do what I want with it...

i was was going to hold off but fitbits cavalier responses have caused me to shift my plans and I have already moved my nutrition tracking to MFP... I will continue to use my force for steps and sleep... Until I decide where I am jumping... I like the ped in my 6... But I don't have my phone glued to my body... And if I get ticked enough... I may just dump the force and cope until I find a replacement

We shouldn't have to vote for something that Fitbit should have done on it's own.  It's absolutely ridiculous.

Voting is what FitBit has suggested.

So you are not interested.

Okay. That's your decision.

Thanks for keeping us informed.

ChrisCA... Just because I keep posting does not mean that I haven't voted... I voted at the time of my first post... And I keep posting because I keep checking to see if Fitbit has actually addressed their own community board... For good or for ill I am a chatty soul... But at the same time, Havenocents is right... This should have been a no brainer... This isn't a cancelled TV show... The fans shouldn't have to petition to save it...

And if you are not using a computer you can't vote. I view this one my phone or iPad. I had to go out of way to use a computer to vote.

I would really like to see the fitbit app intergrate with the healthkit in iOS8.  With all the buzz apple put out on the subject in advance I a suprised fitbit didn't have one ready when iOS8 came out.  I have one of the recalled Fitbit Force bands and I won't trade it for anything except maybe the apple watch if fitbit doesn't come to the pump.

When Apple announced its new Health app, I researched fitness tracking products extensively, and finally chose a Fitbit One as the best product for my needs. Given that it is a substantial player in the fitness tracking market, there seemed no doubt that the company would be working to integrate with Apple for those users who favored both products.

The only reason I purchased my Fitbit One was for use with the Apple Health app. Despite being very, very happy with my Fitbit One product, I am beyond disappointed that it is not yet syncing with Apple's app. Regardless of how much I like the product, if it is not going to "play with the big boys" and refuses to keep up with current technology advances, then it is not going to be a product/company I can support or continue to do business with.

Please, please, listen to your many users begging for your company/products/software to work with Apple's product, make the changes necessary for them to "play together"... and do it soon!

ETA: Had emailed customer support before I found this thread. Just got the following response on 10/5/14, literally minutes after I posted originally:

"We don't have immediate plans to integrate with HealthKit. We'll watch HealthKit closely as it matures and look for opportunities to improve the Fitbit experience. In the meantime we'd like to hear more from you about what you'd like to see in a HealthKit and Fitbit integration."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?! Don't have immediate plans? Watch as it matures? Omg. Unbelievable. Way to remove yourself from the market and make your products and input on the development of this new tech completely irrelevant... and this in spite of the many requests by users. I guess it's time to go shopping for a product that DOES keep up with the changing options in the market.

With posted responses from Customer service here in the forums, I have been now looking at replacing my Fitbit One with a Jawbone UP24 or other product which does integrate with Apple's HealthKit.

Even the Jawbone integration with Healthkit only includes steps and sleep data, not much but it is at least something.  I'm hoping it will grow in the items it includes in this integration.  It is very interesting to read Jawbone's simular thread saying people will leave their product if they do not integrate.

Quella, yes, I have already started looking at the Jawbone products as well. I'm not going to leap from the frying pan into the fire, but I am DEFINITELY back in the market for the product I THOUGHT I was getting with the Fitbit One... and it is a bitter thing as I have LOVED my Fitbit One and was very excited about the expanded capability of the combo with the Health app.

If Jawbone is only barely better, and Fitbit doesn't take the hint and FAST, someone will step up and meet this need in the market. It's just a matter of time.

I would like to see FitBit make tracking points an option.

Lets look at the data that might live on the fitbit system that could sync with Health.

Steps

Sleep

Food

Weight

Body Fat

Some of us using fitbit track food on something else (my choice MFP).

I track my weight on fitbit, but I will do in Health.

So what we would like linked to Health would be:

Sleep Log

Activity Log

Weight

Body Fat

Food (maybe)

Info collected from Health

So the only thing I'm using fitbit for is activity, and well when it breaks there are other choices.

So here is a list of the data types:

Active Calories

Biologial Sex

Biotin

Blood Alcohol Content

Blood Glucose

Blood Presure

Blood Type

Body Fat Percentage

Body Temperature

Caffeine

Calcium

Carbohydrates

Choride

Chromium

Copper

Cycling Distance

Date of Birth

Dietary Calories

Dietary cholesterol

Electrodermal Activity

Fiber

Flights Climbed

Folate

Forced Expiratory Volume, 1 sec

Forced Vital Capacity

Heart Rate

Height

Inhaler Usage

Iodine

Iron

Lean Body Mass

Magnesium

Manganese

Molybdenum

Monounsaturated Fat

Niacin

NikeFuel

Number of Times Fallen

Oxygen Saturation

Pantothenic Acid

Peak Expiratory Flow Rate

Peripheral Perfusion Index

Phosphorus

Polyunsaturated Fat

Potassium

Protein

Respiratory Rate

Resting Calories

Riboflavin

Saturated fat

Selenium

Sleep Analysis

Sodium

Steps

Sugar

Thiamin

Total Fat

Vitamin A

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B6

Vitamin C

Vitamin D

Vitamin E

Vitamin K

Walking + Running Distance

Weight

Zinc

So lets vote what do we want fitbit to send to health kit and what we want it to collect from health kit?

I would also like to see the ability to sync steps, sleep, and weight data with Apple's Health app. I am a longtime supporter of Fitbit, having owned every tracker with the exception of the Force (BTW, eagerly awaiting a refresh/sequel to the Force). I consider it very important that Healthkit integration be added sooner rather than later. I'm not going to threaten to start using Jawbone or anything but I could see a lack of integration eventually affecting my loyalty, for what it's worth. Thank you.

I don't realy see much point in this health kit app at the moment, its only a simple line graph and doesn't give you much information. I was expecting more.

I think this would be a good start.

I hate having to track the same data in multiple systems. I want to track it once and then done.  I don't want to track my food in my fitness tracker and my blood sugar tracker. But I need that info in both. Having a system that can link diverse systems, could alow me to track the info in which ever system is best and link them together.

That is the point for me.

I can't believe healthkit integration is even being discussed as an option -or "voted" on. Aren't there plenty of fitbit\iOS users on the market that integration would automatically be slated for a future build? I am sure there are many requests for additional features to be added, but one must think most competitors will be adding integration. Fitbit does not need to give anyone a reason to abandon their product... I would at least consider another product if the feature is never added.

joestencowwife

Agreed, it should've just been DONE, automatically, with ALL the data being available to import to Health. It's a no brainer. I couldn't believe it even had to be discussed.
