Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

in my case, Fitbit is one, albeit core, of several tools I use for tracking my health and fitness, and want to have a single view across all of them. I can now do this with the exception of the data from my Fitbit one.

Of course there is the Fitbit website itself which can perform a similar role - but as this uses 'flash' - its functionality is 'broken' on my ios devices.

As it stands today, fitbit is the last piece of the jigsaw to give me a full picture. As a result, am very dissapointed in this response from fitbit. to-date have been very pleased with my 'one', but lack of integration is an issue for me.

The way forward for me will fall into one of three options

1. fitbit integrate with the app (best outcome)

2. I find another way of automatically logging my fitbit data with the health app (not ideal, but if it is automatic and not a manual re-key then I can live with it)

3. I replace my fitbit one

Joining with the other companies in utilizing the iPhone Health App is the only SMART choice that you can make

Disappointed. How hard it be for Fitbit to make the integration? Anyway, looking at Withings Pulse O2 to replace my Fitbit One now. Luckily I haven't purchased the Aria yet ...

I also would like to see fitbit intergrated with HealthKit and not wait another year to see how HealthKit progresses.  Looking forward to it.

Thanks

I was waiting to collect all my data in one app. What is the problem with an health kit integration. Other companies are able to do it, do you really want your customers to switch tracker because of this ?

Looks like fitbit is a no go on integrating with health app.  Good thing they listen to their users.  Was nice knowing you, Fitbit!  This time next year...I wonder how many of us you will have lost.

I don't want consumer health technology to be as balkanized my healthcare records. I generate the data, it's important and personal to me, and I want to do with it what I please.

I won't continue or give future consideration to buying fitbit unless they work with emerging aggregation technologies like Healthkit, IFTTT, etc.

Going for the Whithings Pulse and an iHealth HS-5 wifi scale. Enough of this nonsense.

This reveals and attitude about FitBit. Who owns my data? I believe I do. If FitBit wants to limit me using my data I will find alternatives that do not.

Actiualy it doesn't mather to me. since apple watch will take over all the functionality of my flex and a lot more. The flex will end up in a locker.

Color me surprised to learn that Fitbit hadn't actually planned to integrate with Health Kit. I thought the hold up was the issues on Apple's end. However, after seeing that even Weight Watchers, who really have been struggling with tech, has integrated I went searching and came across this thread. Don't understand Fitbit's position as integration seems like a no brainer. Health Kit integration might offer threats, high so does not integrating. If this thread is anything to go by, the cost of not integrating will be higher. For me, and it seems a lot on this board, no integration means dumping Fitbit. Even if I were to get the Apple watch, I would still use my Fitbit One (or its successor) as my primary movement tracker, because I don't expect to wear the Apple Watch all the time. I like to sometimes wear a real watch, or none at all. I have the same issue with using the iPhone to track my movement; I just don't always have it on me. I will watch and wait till the end of the year and if Fitbit doesn't integrate, I will move on to other devices. Luckily I use the Withings scale which is already integrated. Lose It! is also integrated so moving away from Fitbit, although not my first choice, will be relatively painless

I would appreciate the integration with IOS8 Health App.  I use my fitbit every day, and having to manually enter my steps, flights, sleep etc to the Health Application is time consuming and, in my opinion, rediculous.  Please work with apple to integrate so I don't have to buy a device that does to replace my fitbit.  Thanks.

After being a loyal fitbit customer since the very first device and tracking every step I make since, I am extremely disappointed that fitbit has taken this position.  Apple played a big part in making you who you are as a company.  Turning your backs on Apple in order to lock up our personal data is outrageous.  Fortunately for everyone upset about this idiotic management decision, there are plenty of fitness tracker options now days.  I just ordered a Jawbone UP24 from Amazon Prime.  I will not spend another dime with Fitbit, I am deleting the app from my devices and I am canceling integration with my other fitness applications. You are not going to benefit from my data one iota.

I sincerely hope many more people follow my lead. Fitbit management needs to feel this in their bottom line to realize how big of a mistake they made.

Seriously - this stinks! Have been with FitBit since the start and so have an affection for them. I think that most people had some empathy and felt support for them when the Force took a dump - but to hit back with this is disgraceful. Grow up FitBit - you cannot seriously expect to bluff your way out of this.. admit you're wrong and give your customers what they want. You are going to struggle when the Apple Watch comes out anyway .. so do you really want to start alienating all of your customers already! We want Health Kit integration now!

Fitbit will lose a large portion of their customer base and future business if they fail to integrate with Apple HealthKit. Integration seems like a logical step toward the companies growth and financial success.

I use my FitBit with my iPhone and I love all things interconnected.  Please port to HealthKit.  It is good for current FitBit users and will be good for your business.

I am a Fitbit user and have encouraged the purchase of at least six trackers among my family, and a few more among my friends.  We even have an Aria scale in my household and I use it nearly every day.  I would really appreciate having HealthKit integration as it would allow the integration of more sources of data without having separate silos for each different app.

Thanks, A

I've been with Fitbit since the beginning and I'm completely happy with the products. They are great quality and I love that my One is tiny and not on my wrist. I started using LoseIt prior to Fitbit so I track my food and other activities there. I love that Fitbit integrates with LoseIt. I also use a Whitings scale, but that's because my husband is a Whitings user which doesn't integrate with LoseIt.

Why would you not even consider integration with Apple's Heath kit. What's the harm? You sell actual devices at reasonable prices and I don't see why you would need to get rid of a Premium service (which I don't pay for so I'm not sure of the advantages). I don't want to use my iPhone to count steps because I don't always have it with me and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to pay for an expensive Apple Watch because I prefer my smaller One device.

My personal opinion - allow the integration (keep your current customers from jumping to a competitor) and then focus on the devices and come up with something that is reasonably price and looks cool. To me the ideal device hasn't been developed.

Just got this e-mail from Fitbit Support:

We don't completely know what is going into management's decision over Healthkit and as agents representing this organization, cannot make speculation on behalf of the company.  We are paying close attention to customers like you who are looking to see a Healthkit integration in both emails and on the community forum. While we have yet to integrate, this is still an open conversation. We definitely appreciate your feedback.

Sincerely, Peter D and the Fitbit Team

"While we have yet to integrate, this is still an open conversation. We definitely appreciate your feedback."

An open conversation about what? Your customers want it. What more is there to have a conversation about? So disappointed that a company I have supported for so many years, bought as presents for family and friends, & recommended constantly has fallen so far. It is so clear now I bet on the wrong company.

This is really akin to saying we own your health data. It is such an absolute no brainer of a decision it is mind boggling there are people in your company that think this is a good decision. And after days of complaints, reviews, & a clear indication from your loyalest customers that we want our health data released, still nothing. It really is a level of stupidity that is hard to fathom. The implementation of a few SDKs and all your customers are happy again. But, nope we want to go out of business & nobody will tell us otherwise.

BTW, it doesn't matter what you do now, so you can save the "open conversation" & "waiting to see how it matures" nonsense. Your company is no longer an option for future purchases or recommendations, Healthkit or not. The ridiculousness of this decision is all I need to know about the future of your company.

They don't want to share the data. Other apps share with them, they don't do the sharing. Also, Apple has and is improving its own step devices, already pushing FitBit out of the market. FitBit wants to know how you envision HealthKit so they can create something even better. I can understand all this, and I do love my FitBit flex. Have been wearing it for more than a year. But I don't agree with what they are doing. Like so many others here have said, it's OUR data not FitBit's data. I have a hard enough time prying my medical records out of the hands of doctors, who consider my personal health information their own. I don't want to have to fight to get my online data as well.

The best solution for us the consumer is of course for FitBit to share our data with HealthKit. I don't know what the best solution is for the company, though. Should be interesting to see what happens. In the meantime, I load my HealthKit and see my MFP calories but no steps, and I have the steps box first. Too bad 😞

ETA on Oct. 13: After I posted this comment (Oct. 10), my MyFitnessPal data was mysteriously unlinked from my FitBit account. By the time I figured out I had to completely re-add it, a day had passed and I'd lost a day of my calorie data in FitBit. Strange coincidence, or perhaps not a coincidence at all. Really, FitBit? So petty and vindictive? I have been a huge fan of yours and have referred MANY here ... rethinking this now ...

I'd love to see Fitbit integrate with Apple Healthkit for weight, sleep and steps, so that these can be mixed with my other data from other apps and devices. The APIs already allow for other apps to access the data, so why not Healthkit? However, it seems Fitbit have a problem with enabling users to do what they wish with data they've generated on devices they've paid considerable money for.

Fitbit's current position on Healthkit is going to be untenable, particularly in the run up to Christmas. It just makes sense to bring all your health data into one place on iOS, and Fitbit seems to be the odd man out in allowing that. I'm currently debating which scale to buy, but as it stands, Fitbit won't be an option, and I know two friends wanting to buy step counters who are now likely to plump for the Jawbone.

The era of walled gardens for data is over, so please Fitbit just do the right thing for your users by letting them choose how to use their own data, before you do irreparable long term damage to your business.

This request doesn't seem unreasonable. I fail to understand why fitbit would not integrate healthkit into its application. And judging from the comments I might not be the only one leaving fitbit behind for not keeping up with user demand.
