Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

What is the timeline to have fitbit integrate with apple health kit?

I returned my charge HR because it would not do this.

My wife is questioning fitbit as well, and i have to direct her to another product that will work with our iphones.

There is no timeline. The company have gone public saying they have no plans for integration. They are just keeping this as under consideration to keep people hopeful. Give up hope and swap like the rest of us.

I totally agree! I ise an app to sync my MyFitnessPal, Fitbit and others together to the health app so all the info can be seen in one place. The only thing missing is my heart rate data! I REALLY want to see it on there!

If you purchase the app called Sync Solver you can! They have two, one
pulls from Fitbit to health and the other From health to Fitbit! Use the
one that matches the color of the health! The one that has the same color
as Fitbit is the one you use from health to Fitbit! Good luck!

@jjsilva2011 @kelcee Sync Solver only syncs some data, but not all. Blame Fitbit. https://www.fitbit.com/forums/topic/JP8YZD9SFQZ5G

Fitbit thought more of their IPO than their customers respectful requests to integrate with HealthKit. Their IPO was a disappointment because the market recognizes that if you ignore needs you won't be valued.

Since I own the Fitbit and I generate/own the data it tracks then I should be able to sync with whatever app I choose.

I like my Fitbit Surge and I liked the Force before it was recalled. I do not like the Fitbit app. Not being able to sync with the health app will likely force me to buy an Apple Watch and leave the Surge at home.

Surprising that this thread is still alive. 13+ months and counting with no positive results for iOS users, and new users continuing to be deceived and disappointed.

@ineedamac, Fitbit appears to want to own exclusive rights to the data that you generate. This is evident by their unwillingness to update HealthKit's database. It's also possible that they may have hidden agreements with Microsoft and Android (Google) that prevents them from working with Apple's ecosystem. The sad part about this is that Fitbit does not have the courage and integrity to let new consumers know that their devices are not truly compatible with iOS. Fitbit continues to disrespect existing iOS users by saying that the badly needed HealthKit update feature is 'under consideration' with no announcements of plans to fulfill this need.

I and many past loyal Fitbit users have moved on to other devices. I'm extremely happy with my Apple Watch. The sleep tracking feature is something that I don't really miss much (i.e. pretty much the same reported night after night). Also, the potential for features improvement is so much better with the Apple Watch, that sleep tracking and other features will come in the not too distant future. These features will be implemented in much better ways that Fitbit could hope to do.

For those of you reading this thread having felt deceived by Fitbit, help other potentially new iOS users by not only leaving one star ratings in the App Store. Also leave comments on Amazon, BestBuy, etc. Hopefully, they'll get the message before arriving at this thread.

105 pages of people requesting Apple health integration!! Surely Fitbit need to reconsider this! Could be a lot of people moving to rival companies when they replace their fitbits otherwise

It would be FANTASTIC to have Health or Apple Watch support. I know you look at Apple as competition, but I seriously think you would grab a big chunk of their user base since they don't have as robust of a health tracking app yet. Apple Health only shows data, you can't really do anything with it.

I'd honestly be willing to shell out a couple of bucks to be able use your app with my Watch and phone. I think it's important to also realize that most people with an Apple Watch aren't going to ditch it to wear a Fitbit band, and they're probably not going to want to wear two fitness tracking devices. So why not capitalize on this while you can?

KC,

There is a free app in the App Store call SyncSolver.  It imports the FitBit data into HealthKit.

Now, what Apple will do with the data in healthkit or developers will write apps that use that data is still to be seen.

But I use Sync Solver once a week to sync Fitbit to Apple HealthKit.   It can sync back to 1 months of data but HK keeps it longer.  About the only thing SS doesn't import is your HR data yet. But ask the developer to add that.

I use sync solver right now and it has proven unreliable and a work around for Fitbit refusing to work with Health. It records steps as 1-hour activities, not as actual native step data. This prevents users from being able to take part in challenges and the over all community of Fitbit. Also, I'm not looking to sync Fitbit data into HealthKit, rather I'm requesting the reverse. I should've clarified but I'm looking to use my Apple Watch or Health data in Fitbit, as I don't have a Fitbit and don't plan to purchase one since I don't want to wear two fitness trackers.

As of now, there are 1495  YES votes and 105 pages of comments requesting integration.  It's been weeks since a moderator has stopped by to assure us a decision is still under consideration and they are still listening.

It seems this discussion has turned into white noise to fitbit.

I've moved on to an apple watch and a different scale.  Both sync seamlessly to HealthKit.  The only data I do not have is sleep data.  I'm not sold on the accuracy of my former sleep data generated through fitbit.

I do stop by periodically to be sure the information I share with others remains accurate.  Sadly, it does.

They are still reading them. Enough to delete one of my posts anyway. Quite justified as I did break the rules but they do read these posts. They just choose to ignore them.

here is the thing for me

i used a charge for a year and i got an iwatch as a gift

i have an Aria and an active dashboaed it would be great if my dashboard saw my watch and saw my Aria at the same time

I loved my charge and the fitbit dashboard cool but my iphone products will not not connect even as a third party

i would love if that happened - my Aria was not cheap

but i would sell it and get one that would connect to my iwatch

Fitbit has been arrogant and unresponsive. I went to all the sales sites and posted. My Apple watch works well. I guess they believe that a smaller market is beautiful - so be it.

We shouldn't have to resort to steps like this but...

Fitbit seems to just want to ignore Apple Health, so it's pretty straight
forward to use IFTTT( If This Then that) app to pull data from Fit Bits app
and then you can plug it in to other apps, and example is I have my Aria
push my weight to MyfitnessPal which treats it as a manual upload and then
will sync that information to Apple Health for me.

This kind of functionality should just work and should be built in to the
Fitbit app, but at least IFTTT is a good work around...

Just sent a demand to have all my personal data deleted from the FitBit servers. The company don't listen, won't integrate and have competitors who do and will.

Sorry to add that I'm also going to be dumping the online account too, I will almost be sad to see an end top the messages appearing from this thread, it did let me know that my fellow users did care and did want to work through this, but FB clearly dont.

Yes @Jackcanon, we shouldn't have to resort to steps like this.

If third party developers can easitly do it and earn extra $$ from you to do it, there's no technological reason why Fitbit can't do it to satisfy and grow their iOS user base. Also, don't forget the extra time that you waste in doing the manual syncs and fiddling with syncs that are not 100% reliable.

Fitbit is not a forward looking company as it has no interest in looking after its clients' interests and needs. It's apparent that Fitbit wants control over YOUR data with little respect for YOU. I for one will not be returning to give my data to Fitbit even if it decides to implement HealthKit integration. There are already too many good alternatives out there that Fitbit products are becoming more and more insignificant. I hope new iOS users are doing their research beforehand and avoid coming across this thread feeling deceived and disappointed.

It's a shame that they don't appear to care at all.

(Reality may be different but the apeparance is usually what counts)

It's obvious that there are some real reasons behind why they haven't adopted HealthKit yet, and the real ussue is that they're not even saying.

The "reasons" they currently give (still evaluating, etc) simply don't hold up under close scrutiny.

Real information, even if it's a "No, we just don't want to do it yet" would have helped a lot.

  • On the one hand, they still would have love my custom.
  • On the other, they would not have lost my respect and trust.

And it's easier to regain the former if you still have the latter.

I miss Fitbit's near-seamless syncing. As long as I was sat near my computer, it would update. Withings' syncing just isn't as good. I find I pretty much have to manualy trigger a sync every time.

But the ability to make the most of potential integration with my phone is a must-have. What is the point of having a health-tracking device if it can't sync to the health-tracking built into my phone's OS?

Would I go back if they relented and added it in?

Maybe. Maybe not.

I just don't know. If I started using FitBit again, how would I be able to trust that they'd avoid putting corporate strategy not just above but exclusively instead of customer interest again?

Fitbit have the superior products, I think, but I can't trust them to make product decisions that benefit me. So I'd rather throw my money at not-quite-as-good products that are still good enough and do suit my actual use-case.

Now here's your problem...

I'm now selling my FitBit second hand and have bought a new Apple watch.

This means your sales are going to be down.

Simple.

I'm one person selling mine second hand. If everybody that has posted to this thread did the same, and lets suggest they all have the Charge HR at £120 each, that's a grand total of £524,173.79 youve lost out on.

that's JUST the people on this forum of course. If you want to throw that kind of money away, can I have it please?

Just to clarify my earlier remarks.

I am a Fitbit Aria user and I own an Apple Watch.

I would like my Aria to update my weight to HealthKit. I know my Apple Watch will interop... cooperate with HealthKit. I know other devices and apps will cooperate with HealthKit. My FitBit Aria (a great device) seems to be unwilling to cooperate.

I get it, you want to create a health platform. There is a short road from "fitbit devices work well together" to "fitbit devices don't play well with other platforms". The question is, do you want to be an exclusive platform? Is it an all or nothing proposition?

It seems so and guess what? You loose me at that point.
