Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

can't stress enough how disappointed I was to find out Fitbit does not sync with the Apple Health app. Bought the Blaze without even considering it wouldn't sync. As many have mentioned, it's a no-brainer to do this. Can only imagine it's a political decision for some previous Apple-wrongdoing as nothing else makes sense not to do it. Can only guess 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' comes to mind.

Go on, make your product awesome, sync away.

Why hasn't it been done yet?

It's already been a while and a lot of health apps already use HealthKit. I was kinda disappointed to discover that the Aria I got doesn't sync with HealthKit.

Kind of disappointed my fitbit does not sync with my shiny new iPhone's health kit; the FitBit app is good but I like having all of my information in one place

I am very surprised this hasn't been sorted.

The problem with 3rd party apps like SyncSolver, is they are limited to what the Fitbit API them do. Fitbit has and will change the API as they fit.

Ps. At this point I would recommend returning new Fitbits, while you still can, because return period will expire before changes their minds.

Really amazing that this has not been added.  Seems like we request and vote for nothing.

Having had the Fitbit nearly a year I am frustrated by the fact it integrates with other apps/products but not with IOS Healthkit. I will not be purchasing any future model and will look for a product that does intergrate fully.

Disappointed

No recommendation - more likely a suggestion to go elsewhere should I be asked.

I like how Fitbit states:  "Your voices are being heard". But we are doing nothing about it. Wow

Can I pair my FitBit with the Apple Health App?!?!

Unfortunately, not. Countless people have "voiced" their opinions and desires to have Fitbit integrated with Apple HealthKit. However, apparently our voices have fallen on deaf ears for about 2 years now.

Unless you're content with Fitbit, I suggest you return the device for another option that does integrate with Apple Health.

The FitBit app has an awesome Dashboard view of my stats. FitBit stands alone delivering all the info we need.

@steffieagle,

It has a lot going for it, I'm a diabetic.

I gave up on Fitbit's food tracking years ago for better options.

Fitbit does not link to any of blood sugar apps I use.

My food app links to Health Kit. My glucose meter app links to Health Kit. I abandoned Fitbit for a tracker that links to Health Kit. Now I have all metrics that affect the control of blood sugar in a one usable place.

Fitbit can't do that for me because there is no way to integrate my blood sugar readings.

My first Fitbits were what they now call "classics", bough pre order when Fitbit was some new start up.

I loved using my classic, then my One, which I got even though my Classic still worked.

But I put my One in drawer in 2014 and have not regretted for an instant. I finally have carbs, glucose, calories burned all in one place.

Fitbit has shown that business model is more important than what their customers want.

Because I'm using exercise to treat a illness, I have to go with what works. Fitbit not integrating does not work for me.

I'm glad it works for you, but no their current dashboard is not perfect.

I just looked at the list of compatible apps, no blood sugar apps.

@steffieagle,

The Health Kit dashboard is not the selling point of Health Kit, it is lacking, true.

What makes Health Kit great is that it is database for collecting and sharing health metrics.

I wish I could post screen caps my MySugr Logbook and One Drop dashboards.

HealtKit does not have great dashboard but it makes those other dashboards possible. Fitbit does not.

The question is not if one dashboard is better than another. Whoose data is it, Fitbit's or ours? The customers should have the choice of exporting it seamlessly in the platform ecosystem if they wish to.

Typically these things go two ways, either somebody sues to get their data, or we choose to buy a different product.

After buying two Fitbit's I'll reconsider my choices next time.

Just took off my Fitbit and removed it from my account. Like the moderators have noted on the OP, I "do not currently have plans" to wear it anytime soon. Until it cooperates with natively sharing its data with other applications through Apple Health, I'll be supporting other products that do.

Like many others here, this idea that applications silo important health information and hide it from other similar apps that could use it is becoming more and more a deal breaker. I understand that Fitbit likely considers their data collection a core competency and want to keep it in-house as much as possible, but customers like myself see other companies opening their data to integrate with other apps through platforms such as HealthKit in order to create a larger personal picture and expect this from all our connected devices.

Please reconsider your position on this matter.

Dashboards are subjective and changeable. The scope and control of OUR fitness data is what’s important here. Apple has made it’s HealthKit API open and available to developers since the beginning. Apple has made it possible for the free flow of our fitness data between apps and companies that supports HealthKit (e.g. Garmin, Withings, Jawbone, etc.). So it’s not a technical issue why Fitbit has refused to implement this important feature for close to 2 years now.

Even though Fitbit keeps claiming that their mission is “to help people lead healthier, more active lives… always looking for ways that our users can use their data to support their fitness goals”, they have failed miserably for iOS users who NEED to have their data in one accessible place to easily share with their trainers, doctors, insurance companies, and more.

The other question to ask yourselves is what would happen if Fitbit should disappear one day? Would you be content with your fitness data disappearing with the company that controls it? I would feel safer having my data with Apple than with Fitbit, or at least have my data saved in more than one platform. With Fitbit, your data is under Fitbit’s control and not yours. If you feel enticed by their eye candy dashboard without caring about who really controls your data, then this thread is not an issue for you. For those of us who care about where OUR fitness data goes, this thread is a clear indication that Fitbit does not care about the needs of its iOS customers.

It’ll be interesting to see how long this thread continues on for. The central theme being unsuspecting iOS clients discovering that their Fitbit does not integrate with HealthKit, coming here to beg and plead only to realize that Fitbit is not listening. Again, if you’re a recent purchaser, return your Fitbit for a refund while you can. Fitbit has not moved on this feature request for the last 21 months and counting, and there’s no indication that they will in the future.
