Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

I have bought an Aria scale, A Fitbit One, Fitbit Flex, two additoinal Fitbit Flex bands after they broke, and 2 years of Premium membership.  But I think I may have bet on the wrong horse.  Let me be generous and assume that Fitbit upgrades their service to add everything that Healthkit can do and just be an alternative ecosystem (a tall order).

Even still, the data export (when it is functioning) is seriously lacking.  The nutrition data is exported in a format that is completely unhelpful with the units in the same cells as the data, making writing macros or VBA code to get data in more useful table like the other data types.

Having useful data export would make me happy to keep paying for the premium service even if I was using Healthkit to check on things throughout the day.  Health goes way beyond what Fitbit is offering which is why Healthkit is promissing.  Fitbit appears determined to do it all for now.  Good luck with that.

Fitbit, with me you have one week to integrate with HealthKit. If at the end of that time you have not updated the app to integrate with HealthKit, or at least announce it will be HealthKit friendly in two weeks, I'm selling my Flex and buying a Jawbone. You make a great product, so please don't be short sighted on this.

How disappointing! My husband and I both have a Fitbit One and we have the Aria scale. If there is no intention to integrate with Healthkit then we will be purchasing from a company that does. We are very pleased otherwise but this is a dealbreaker.

It's been awhile since someone said this, but everyone who is posting, please also remember to VOTE. There is a thumbs-up icon at the top left of each page of this thread - click on that to vote Yes for HealthKit integration.

There are nearly 1000 comments but only 600 Yes votes, and who knows if they'll use this to say that only 60% of commenters want this feature (when in fact I have yet to read a comment that says that this won't be a required feature if they want to continue having us as customers).

Following the keynote one of my main excitements about iOS 8 was the promised Fitbit integration with HealthKit - the opportunity of consolidated data is obviously of great benefit to those essential to those using technology to build a comprehensive picture of their health. I use my One 24-7 and over the last 2 years and really love the product. However I do need data that can consolidate easily with other sources and I want to use HealthKit to do this. If Fitbit will not move forward to integrate with HealthKit I need another tracker asap - can't see Apple keeping Fitbit products in the store for more than a few days if Fitbit renage on HealthKit support.

"Your voices are being heard."

No, they're not. The demand for Healthkit integration is enormous. So saying that you do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit is not hearing your costumers.

The Healthkit API has been out to developers for MONTHS now. As a company, failing to be even interested in any sort of integration is just lagging behind. Not being prepared for it is just shamefull and lazy.

This is the day that I stop using my Fitbit and start being a Jawbone client. Thanks for making my decision a lot easier.

Very disappointed about the missing HealthKit integration. Will probably switch to Apple Watch for step counting.

Stick your head in the sand, and you won't see the world pass you by. Not that my one voice matters, but adding mine to the hundreds of others, both here and on the various tech sites after FitBit decided to declare their irrelevance, will hopefully add to the pressure on FitBit to change their mind.

Then again, after my next trip to the Apple store or Best Buy to find a scale from a company that does want to play nice, I will probably have an Aria and One going on eBay.

All the data collected from FitBit devices (steps, floors, sleep, weight etc) must be transferred to HealthKit and food\activity data must be transferred from HealthKit - not directly from MyFitnessPal and other platforms. This is the main idea.

I think most users would switch from FitBit to different platform if HealthKit integration would not appear till 2015. Just read this forum or a comments on 9to5mac:

Pathetic that I have to even vote for this. Get it done.

Considering Fitbit is getting our activity data for free (we even pay for the device), i think it would be more that fair that we were able to sync it to Health app on our iOS devices.

It´s absurd not to offer that option to users.

I´ve bee using Fitbit for several years and now im considering just moving to JawBone.

This is really annoying... you´re already late...

A swansong for My Fair FitBit seems appropriate at this point as its getting so depressing.

All together now, and singing.........

What a fool I was, what a dominated fool

To think that you were the Earth and sky

What a fool I was, what an addlepated fool

What a mutton-headed dote was I

No, my reverberating friend

You are not the beginning and the end

There'll be spring every year without you

England still will be here without you

There'll be fruit on the tree

And a shore by the sea

There'll be crumpets and tea without you

Art and music will thrive without you

Somehow Keats will survive without you

And there still will be rain on that plain down in Spain

Even that will remain without you,

I can do without you!

You, dear friend, who talk so well

You can go to Hartford, Hereford and Hampshire

They can still rule the land without you

Windsor Castle will stand without you

And without much ado we can

All muddle through without you

Without your pulling it the tide comes in

Without your twirling it, the Earth can spin

Without your pushing them, the clouds roll by

If they can do without you, ducky, so can I

I shall not feel alone without you

I can stand on my own without you

So go back in your shell

I can do bloody well

Without you!

Very disappointing news

Massively disappointed in FitBit's statements, I had expected FitBit to be a the front of the adoption queue.

Planning on buying some smart scales in the next few months, I guess I'll be getting the Withings instead of the Aria.

For me this isn't just about whether the customers want it, it's about validating the company claims about it's ethos: "Fitbit is dedicated to helping people lead healthier, more active lives. ", if you're not supporting the Health app I'm not convinced of your dedication.

How do I see integration?

Steps: There's an opportunity to track times when my phone is moving but my Flex isn't (e.g. when the Flex is on charge), so that I don't lose half a day's worth of tracking every week or so.

Flights of stairs: The new iPhones can detect when you go up and down stairs, that allows those of us with trackers that don't have that functionality to get that data into the FitBit dashboard.

And of course there's the data that can be collected by other devices such as weight, BMI, body fat, heart rate, etc.

In reality though I don't need FitBit to be doing anything exciting, I'd just like it to join the other apps in feeding into the Health app at this point as I'd like to have the one view instead of needing to switch backwards and forwards between the various apps to get all of my data as I do at present.

I will add my voice to the masses. Yes Fitbit you need to integrate with HealthKit. I am on my third Fitbit (lost or broke the other two) and I have the Aria scale. I can guarantee that when I lose my current Fitbit (and it will happen) if Fitbit has not at least announced they will integrate with Healthkit, I will be buying a different step tracker.

You cannot beat them... so join them. Find a way to differentiate but join them!

Looking forward to when the Fitbit app gives access to our data to HealthKit so we can see all our health related information in one place. Holding our data hostage isn't a sustainable longterm strategy.

Well FitBit it was fun whilst it lasted but if you are not willing to be "Flex"ible, I am putting you on notice. As soon as the Apple Watch is released, the FitBit will be just some product that I used to know.

Well Fitbit, it was a good ride, but you're missing the mark here. Fact is that you will never come close to having the platform and eco system that Apple will have built 1 year from now around health data and apps. After the Force massive screw up and the lack of new products, not integrating with health kit is the last straw. Watch as your users are going to fly to more integrated health apps and devices. It was nice knowing you.

I think it is an extremely poor choice to not integrate with health kit.  I LOVE my fitbit, but I am really loving the apps that integrate with Healthkit more than I am loving fitbit right now.  The decision to not integrate bascially made the decision for me of whether I should stay with fitbit or go for the apple watch.  Sorry, if you're not going to integrate i'm going to switch to something that does...

"I guess someone at FitBit said the wrong thing!"

Over the years I have bought several pedometers. The FitBit Ultra that I now use and have used since it's release has been the best, even perfect. It even integrates with a few of my Apple iPhone apps. Nice.

I'm ready to upgrade my FitBit with a new one to integrate with Apple's HealthKit. However, now I read that FitBit does not plan to directly support HealthKit. Disappointed!

I guess my next favorite pedometer won't be a FitBit product.

As I said in another thread...I'm REALLY unimpressed that this is FitBit's official stance towards Health. FitBit need to up their game with regards to their app/digital offering, as they're being outclassed by competing products at the moment. So much so that a long-time FitBit using friend has abandoned the FitBit platform after finding out that there will be no Health support in the near future. He's moved over to a competitor that already supports it.

Come on guys...don't forget who your customers are.

Very disappointed that you will not be offering integration "any time soon". Now I have no real need for Fitbit anymore.

Like others I find this behavior disappointing. I truly was hoping that Fitbit would integrate into the Health app. When my Force dies I will be moving to another platform, even if Fitbit has integrated into Health by that point.
