Integration with Google Fit

I'd very much like my fitbit data available in Google Fit. I use a different app for food logging, but Fitbit's step counter, sleep tracker, and aria are great.

If their data was available through the new Google Fit it would be fantastic.

Please add google fit support! Many devices in the market are already doing that.

Is there a solution yet? I feel like people are writing on a page which no one is looking at.

In general Fitbit lets anyone link ip to them through theit open API.

Google also has an API and lets others link up to tuem.

Got the picture now?

I understand how open systems integrate. That's not the point. Fitbit uses google + apple's SDK to make its app beautiful and impressive. It would be great if it can share the data with google fit and apple health. @Rich_Laue As a normal consumer, it would be very inconvenient to write your own API sync and I think its even wrong for fitbit as a company to expect fitbit users to do this. Fitbit products are impressive and will always help collect data, does it matter if users look at the data in the fitbit app or google fit app?

Agreed, it shouldn't be down to the fitbit user to provide the integration with other health services it should be fitbit themselves who do this. It should be a given that they integrate with the OS health service at the very least.

I got sick of waiting and have stopped using my Fitbit. The ionic hasn't ticked enough boxes for me to change my mind although the planned sleep apnea tracking would have been useful for me I'm looking elsewhere.

Fitbit should definitely integrate with GoogleFit!

@not_fit then uou realize many companies use th he users foybit fata, some of these companies Fiybit doesn't even know this. It would be extremely easy for Google to setup a link and take the data ftom Fitbit.

Of cours Fitbit could always retrieve your Google data, but they normally do not push yoir data to third parties.

Thank you for your suggestions. We are always looking for ways you can use your data to support your health and fitness goals. For the past few years, we’ve been the leader in developing direct partnerships through our open API with hundreds of the most popular health apps, wellness programs, incentive systems, and other services that have enabled people like you to make the most of your products and data. In addition, the launch of Fitbit Ionic has given us the opportunity to allow third party developers to develop apps for the Fitbit App Gallery through our SDK, providing opportunities to offer even more features and apps to our global Fitbit community from our developer community.

With regards to your proposed integrations, we continue to evaluate new partners and will update you if we have news to share. Fitbit has a history of working with the community to bring potential features to reality, and we thank you for taking the time to share your ideas and suggestions.

Hi all. I've been directed here by the chaps on the Fitbit Support Twitter service.

Rather than post a new thread, this one looks like the best one to add my thoughts to...

I have an original Flex (I'll pause while you all laugh a bit!) and I LOVE... LOVE my Fitbit challenges with my mates.

I've been looking to upgrade my Fitbit for a while and was looking at the Blaze but I'm also wanting to get a smartwatch so when I heard rumour that Fitbit were bringing out a new smartwatch I held out. To be honest I was really disappointed when the Ionic came out. I mean it's not a proper smartwatch is it? Not when you compare it to the all singing all dancing ones that are out there such as Samsung Gear S3. It has tie-ins with very few apps, and those that it does have I would think few people use. It also doesn't come close in terms of screen quality, features and performance.

In the UK Ionic is £300. Samsung Gear S3 is the same price, but offers so, so much more! But I just absolutely need to be in my Fitbit challenges!

My options:

  • Get a "proper" smartwatch, and wear it AND a new Fitbit (probably the Alta). Really don't want to do that as I don't like the idea of wearing a watch on each wrist at the same time!
  • Buy an Ionic and be sad that it is only really a fitness tracker, not a true smartwatch, but be happy that I'm still in the Fitbit challenge crowd.
  • Get a proper smartwatch and leave Fitbit altogether. Currently the way I'm headed but I really will miss my Fitbit challenges.

My ideal scenario? Get a proper smartwatch that the Fitbit app on my phone can pull step tracking data in from, either directly or through another app.

I get that Fitbit make their money on the hardware but why can't they make a paid version of the app maybe with a subscription (or include it in Fitbit Coach) that allows me to import my step data from a third party device (e.g. Samsung Gear S3)? I would gladly pay a subscription (say £50/year) for that.

To be clear, it's really only the steps I'm interested in, as for all my running etc. I use endomodo and strava.

Cheers!

I voted for this quite a long time ago... and two weeks ago I bought the Garmin Vivoactive 3 and ditched the FitBit. The deciding factors - a better smartwatch platform (since I wanted to move away from a Pebble smartwatch on one wrist and a FitBit on the other), and that many of my friends are now doing the same so there's no longer the incentive to stay on FitBit for challenges.

Disappointingly, FitBit bought the IP from Pebble and did nothing with it. The promise of a smartwatch that rivalled Pebble kept me hanging on to FitBit for quite a bit longer than I was comfortable with, and then for them to release the I(r)onic? Ugh.

Given the ability to sync FitBit to Garmin would have kept me here at least until my Pebble died. Unfortunately that option never eventuated.

I'm a former Flex user and current Aria user -- I just ordered a Garmin Vivofit 4 a year after my Flex battery started to die.  It would be nice if I could use one app to monitor weight from the Aria and activity from the Vivofit 4.  I have been happy with the Fitbit app and would continue using it if it can integrate data from both devices.  My only issue with the Flex was battery life so I might even come back to a Fitbit activity tracker in the future.

I would certainly pay for a feature that allowed other devices to be synced to the fitbit app, specifically Garmin devices. I much prefer the fitbit community features - and fitbit has my eternal gratitude for getting me started. But the Garmin device I use has features that fitbit devices didn't have available at the time (pacing, cycling, virtual partner) so I switched brands. But I would prefer to keep using the fitbit ecosystem for steps and sleep monitoring without having to wear two devices or carry my phone on runs.

I just purchased a Fossil Q Smartwatch but want to do fit challenges with my friends that have fitbits and other tools.  Does anyone know if this has been worked out so non fitbit wareables can be synced with fitbit app? Fossil Q uses Google Fit and is on Android Wear.

Please let me know!

Thank you

Hi there @vegaskoko, welcome aboard to the Fitbit Community! Note that Fitbit user proprietary technology that other smartwatch does not have to work with the Fitbit app, so third party smartwatches or fitness trackers from other developers cannot connect with Fitbit.

Depending if your phone brand you can use MobileTrack as an alternative. However this will depend if the phone is able to support this feature. To learn if your phone is able to support this feature feel free to search your model in our List of Compatible Devices.

For more details about our plans with other integrations you can visit the following suggestions:

If you are interested in any of the ideas, feel free to add your vote and feedback. Feature suggestions  statuses are dynamic and can change if priorities change.

See you later and hope this helps.

Please note that we already have some integration with some partners. Others would be able to integrate with us by using our Web API.

Fred, you miss the entire point of this thread.  Your web api was crippled when you removed the ability to properly SEND data to your ecosystem.  By locked down the environment to only allow data from your own lousy devices, you've cut out anyone else who'd be willing to pay for the service alone.

SunsetRunner

@Lawyerforfun sorry, I'm not sure I understand. What data aren't you not able to send to our ecosystem with the actual Web API? The direct integration of other devices with the app is another topic but I thought you were talking about syncing services... It's also the easiest to go as we can't support all devices out there and since we have our own devices, it makes it even trickier I guess, but we don't prevent anyone to integration using the open free API we have.

Lawyerforfun
Stepping Up

Fitbit no longer supports the ability to import steps and similar data.  This used to be available via an API which was deprecated and removed a few years ago.

Oh, my bad, it's true. I didn't understand well the request. I agree it would be useful, but I have no visibility on this, sorry.

I'll leave the same comment I've done for the iOS Health suggestion as it's also relevant for Google Fit. I have no visibility on future plans about this integration and I totally understand that people want us to make this integration ourselves, but note that even if the status of this feature request is "not currently planned", any 3rd-party developers would be able to create an Android app that would sync our data with Google Fit app (they have a SDK) by using our Web API. It may not be the perfect solution, but I wanted to chime in as someone may want to build something that would help you all.

Please consider providing necessary integration between Apple Health and Fitbit as well as Fitbit and Google Fit. It must be bidirectional. If I use either Apple Health or Google Fit, I want the steps to carryover to Fitbit dashboard and vice versa. It is going to be a great help for all community members who wants to keep track of the steps without Fitbit device at that time.
