Landscape Orientation Fitbit app

Hi,

Is it possible for the app to change the orientation when it is turned? Both horizontal and upside down?

I normally use my iPad Pro in my lap with its charging slot (and home button) at the top as it would ruin the iPad charging cord if mashed down in my lap.

The Fitbit app arrives upside down and, unlike most apps I use, doesn’t rotate.

I wish you could update the Fitbit app so that it rotates to always be upright as do most apps I use.

Would like for app to rotate to landscape on iPad. Thanks

Yes I would very much like all screens in the app to rotate to landscape as required. The home screen used to several app updates ago. And some screens do rotate now (like expanded charts for weight tracking or daily heart rate). Given this the developers apparently already know how to fix the app but for some reason choose not to even though there have been complaints from the community for some time.

What world do you Fitbit App developers live in, that this is still not available in late 2018, when users have been asking for it since 2014?

This is easy - can’t believe you guys haven’t done this yet!

You do understand that the number of Fitbit users that want this is way beyond the count of users who have found their way into this Forum and commented, right?

compatibility is crucial for the future developments of the Fitbit applications

It’s very important that the Fitbit app is also available in landscape orientation for tablet users

Please add landscape orientation for the HR information.  Some of the other UIs support it on the Android app, but this one does not.  Without landscape it's a pain to read the trend/data for HR and I'd like to see it in more detail that landscape would allow.

I use my IPad 12.9 like a laptop. I put the Fitbit Dashboard permanently on my IPad screen, and placed the wonky “portrait” Fitbit app next to it. I enter exercise and calories on the Dashboard, not the app. The Fitbit app is great on my IPhone tho. Fitbit claims the app is designed strictly for phones. That is lame, considering all my other apps work perfectly in landscape mode. I’ll wait for Fitbit to fix this haha. Like I waited for Fitbit to put back the over/under calorie count in the Weekly Progress Report.

After reading 4 pages of Fitbit users posting the lack of rotation to Landscape from Portrait view on an iPad aa we move into 2019, the fact that Fitbit has not addressed the problem let alone update a Fix- is extremely disappointing. Apps can rotate. At this point it’s wait and see. As of this date, there are no remedies.

I have owned two different Fitbit devices and I currently own a FitBit Versa. I cannot believe that in all the years I have had a Fitbit that the landscape display mode issue has not been resolved for iPads. It is really ridiculous to have to read sideways text or remove my iPad from its keyboard/case to rotate it into portrait mode after so many years. I rarely use my iPad in portrait mode. I use it like a small laptop, in landscape mode. Even the case is designed that way.

I can probably tolerate this for a few months but having found that my Motorola Z2 Play android phone is not supported either I expect I will abandon Fitbit and move to an Apple Watch and iPhone in the new year. What a disaster! I'll sell the Versa on eBay and take the loss. I bought the Apple devices for my wife and I am very impressed with the quality and appearance of the interfaces on the phone and the watch, a huge difference compared with the Fitbit architecture. More expensive for sure but worth every penny against the aggravation of Fitbit products.

The Fitbit application and devices are simply not ready for prime time. They are not fully developed products and I expect with this level of service and product quality the company will not survive or capture significant market share. Certainly for people who want a cheap product it sort of works. I was hoping that I could use my android phone and the Versa together but the list of approved/supported phones is abysmal. What a pain Fitbit products are!

I totally agree about Fitbit not being ready for prime time. The real problem is that they have had YEARS to get ready & still aren't! I also have an ipad that I never use in portrait mode. The problem with this post, which has been circling around forever is that it it is just going to customers, not to Fitbit directly, so they don't see our aggravation. I had the Flex & now have the Charge 2. When this one dies next year sometime, I too will be switching over to the apple watch. I have always had iphones & they work really well. Does the apple watch do a better job of tracking exercise that is not walking or running?

I’ve owned a Flex, a Charge 1, and currently a second Charge 2. Always
having to rotate the iPad to use the app which is the pain in the butt. Can
believe Fitbit is so slack not being able to resolve this small problem

you're perfectly correct saying these blogs are not conversations with FitBit, I concluded that long time back, it's just us guys chewing the fat between us.

as for your Apple Watch question. I've had several Apple Watch (1, 2 and 3) and they are the best with 1 exception, battery life.

I've had 5 FitBits. the battery life keeps on bringing me back, the convenience of not having to charge every day, or night, is a massive benefit to me. Sometimes I just cant charge for a few days, renders Apple Watch redundant.

The FitBit app, aside from this here landscape issue, is also great. I've spent a lot of money on Apple Watch apps to achieve very little more (if anything at all) over than what the FitBit app does for free.

What surprised me is that a few years ago the Android app did rotate, but since then it has been removed.

As for going main stream, reviews seen to think that fitbits app is one of the best on the market for exercise trackers.

As for Android phones, there is a disadvantage since there is no standard for hardware and most manufactures also release their own spin on the OS. That is why both Fitbit and Garmin release a list of supported phones.

Like everyone else, l wonder if there aren’t clueless app developers at Fitbit that can’t figure out how to orient the dashboard screen on an iPad.

They probably could, considering that Fitbit does not make an Iad version. I wonder why that have Android this feature,  then in would updates removed it?

When I opened the FitBit app on my iPad this morning (Easter Sunday) it opened with a message about "Cleaning Up" then the dashboard came up in landscape mode. I've opened the app several times and it is staying in landscape mode - yeah!

Thanks for pointing that out Welshman!

I've just tried mine and it opened in landscape mode but then changes back to portrait for the dashboard. Darn it!

I'm wondering if your app is for the USA. Mine is for Canada and it will
not rotate. I have many other programs which do rotate to landscape
mode, but not the Fitbit app.
MJCarp

I don’t know why that would matter, but I am in the US.

I have found that with some apps, they are different in the US and
Canada. Sometimes a message will come up stating that the program is not
available in the Canadian store. In any case, I've solved the problem! I
turned off my iPad and turned it back on...voila! I am now in landscape
mode.
