Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

For those who said they wanted it to go back to the watch screen by default, get a watch.  I bought a fitness tracker and now it's only good for being a watch.  I do not want it to go back to the watch screen after 15 freeking seconds.  That's stupid because it takes 2 swipes to get the heartrate back.  This sucks while you're running!  I want it on the screen I put it on and do not want it defaulting back to the watch?  How dumb is that?

@Michael My must have a bug then.  At the moment if I start logging a workout and swipe sideways it says CLOCK CLOCK CLOCK CLOCK CLOCK.  No other options.

For those telling everyone to get a $2 watch.  I never bought a Flex because I didn't want to have to wear multiple devices.  I have always worn a watch and like the dual purpose of the Surge.  I totally agree we need to be able to lock the screen.  But 99% of the time I look at it I want it to show the watch face and its really annoying to have to swipe it.  It would be even better if I could customize which face it resets to, sure, but I'd settle for being able to lock it to a screen only when I need it.  Most of the time I need that though I'm logging a workout anyway so I don't have to worry about it changing.

@Aardon Hmmm... You should have clock and heart rate available in the Workout. That is assuming you have the HR feature turned on; to test I turned HR off, and then workout only shows clock. (You can get to the HR setting either on the Surge or through the site/app.)

Can you get to the HR screen from the clock face at all?

@Michael I did have the HR turned on.  I went ahead and turned it off,  let everything sync up, turned it back on and now everything is showing properly when logging a workout.  Now off to go delete all these extra 10 second workouts.  🙂

Please Please, figure out a way where we can "choose" what Tile we see all the time.  I never wanted a Watch.  I could care less if Surge had a Clock on it.  If i wanted a Watch, i'd buy a Timex.

Can Fitbit please let us know if they intend to provide this funtionality? I would like to update my firmware but am waiting until this gets corrected? Thank you

Not to go off on a tangent.  I haven't worn a watch in years.  Isn't that what cell phones are for??  HAHA, Anyhow, I wish this "fitness device" and I am using the term loosely, had a stop watch instead of a clock.  When you are a fitness guru, a stop watch is a lot more useful than a clock.  I realize the exercise modes have timers, but starting and stopping an activity is really cumbersome. Much easier to just have, a stop watch mode so you can start and stop as needed.

@AZEducator There is a separate feature request for that that you can vote for. (Actually there are at least three different requests for it, but that one has the most votes. Hopefully Fitbit can combine them, or at least close the extras as duplicates.)

Until they either let us remove the "update" or put the display back like it was - I've been going to all the retailers web sites and voicing my opinion of the Surge after this upgrade - as in it was a tracker that could tell time, now it's a watch that can track as long as your hands are free to get to the tracking screens! Since they don't seem to be responding to these communities, maybe a drop in sales will get their attention...

FitBit Product Manager, i'd say after this many posts you got to admit you "blew-it!!!"

Fix this now.

maybe if you double click the screen it could lock screen on pulse that would be a possible  future solution . or have a lock screen on settings feature . that would be even a better  solution

Not sure how to vote, but I say yes to "It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you."

Come on people - double tap the screen, push some buttons to lock in a screen. Just put it back the way it was! FitBit says it consumes more power to have it on a screen other than the clock. If that's the case then they have more serious issues than screen locking. I've gone to having my iPhone display all the metrics while exercising and it has made no detectable difference battery life. Now my $250 Surge is just glorified watch. I've noticed some of the moderator comments have a common theme to these posts - "deal with it". Well moderator deal with this - been going to retailer sites and sharing my discuss with your latest "downgrade" in their reviews. Maybe sales data will get your attention.

Easy solution... make it an option (check box on device settings)

1) Revert to clock

2) As it was before this update (stay where it was)

Please for the love of god put this feature back. I don't want to be swiping to see my heart rate all the time, its too hard to see the target zone at a glance looking at the bottom left corner all the time.

He is absolutely right...the message from the user community is clear, Dear Surge Product Manager. Please Fix This!!!

I hate the update to the surge. Was loving it until the update. I do not use this as a watch. I want to be able to see which ever screen I choose. Prior to the update those that wanted it on time had the option of placing the screen on time. The rest of us could choose the screen we needed. I watch the calories burned as I am working on a weight loss goal. I hate having to stop a workout, swipe the screen to see the calories and then it goes right back to time. It was better before the change. These fitness items should be able to fit the needs of the user. Each of us have different items we track give us the option back and soon!

I like the idea of being able to choose a screen to lock on. I prefer the clock face most of the time but can see the usefulness of being able to lock on other screens as well.

Yes, someway to keep and hold the larger BPM display on screen.

Agree it is a must. I always lock it on the HR Screen until they changed it.

I second (or third, fourth, etc) the notion that we should have the ability to select our own home screen.  I did not purchase my Surge to use it as a watch.  If I want to know the time, I would just lift my other wrist and look at my watch.  I purchased my Surge to use it for it's intended purpose: a fitness tracker.  Thus, if I want to monitor my HR, I would select that display, or Miles or Steps, etc.  Then, once set, all I need to do is lift my wrist and glance at the display to see what the current value is.  I would imagine that this is how most people would do it... IF they purchased the Surge to use as a fitness tracker.

I would suggest, as a way to correct this, that a new option be added to the Settings menu for the Surge.  Call it "Auto Revert to Watch", (or Date or Time).  Something like this.  Make it an ON / OFF option.  Then, those who want to use it for it's intended purpose can set that option to OFF.  Those who want the displayed screen to be the watch can set the option to ON.

Ultimately the user who is the person that paid $250 for the wrist band should be allowed to decide which screen they want to use and for how long they want to use it. Being able to lock the Surge on any screen would be a great way to resolve this issue for everyone. I myself prefer the steps screen throughout the day in general. But I like to use the Heart Rate screen at times too. My iphone has a clock built into it so I don't personally really use the watch feature. But at the same time, I guess it is nice to have it there. I just think it should be the user's choice either what screen to default to or to lock when they want to.
