Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

I have a fix, all that is needed is a hammer and a hard surface. The result, a permanently locked screen and a new clock face.
I'm really surprised this was not fixed in the update. It is such a simple thing too program and test.
Others may argue that other bugs were fixed and new functionality was introduced but if you are going to make improvements to your product why not also pick the low hanging fruit as well.
When I worked in the current products team of a successful engineering firm that's how we operated. Customers picked us because of our customer support and reputation that was built up over the years. Even if our prices were higher than the competition. Failing to recognise the voice of the customer may not have an immediate effect but over time loses sales.

That's true like offering blaze instead of offering surge with color screen.
Fitbit seems to more concerned about releasing new products than improving its existing products .
Uses will prefer lock screen option than new clock faces .

Fitbit's voting system is flawed too. Prioritising issues should, if it's not already, be used along side the voting system.
It's like choosing to improve the dash board on a car based on lots of feedback but forgetting to a steering rack fault. Although not quite to the same extreme lucky.
Customers don't always know what they need, only what appears obvious to them at the time.
Fitbit are doing done really good stuff but I am not convinced they are as familiar with there own product as they should be.

Watch Fitbit release new blaze with all the new features forcing uses to buy new products or just move on from Fitbit .

@cardude10 Please clarify? I am asking for the ability to go for a run while wearing long sleeves. Others are asking different workouts while wearing long sleeves, or gloves (for weights, bike riding, etc). Why would the ability to wear weather appropriate clothes or workout specific gear not be appropriate for a "smart fitness watch" that has workout settings to allow me to track exactly these sorts of workouts?

Anyone from Fitbit are welcome to chime in and respond to @depeete - seems like a logical expectation . . .

Good luck @MScott67 in getting and response from Fitbit. I've contacted Fitbit directly regarding this issue 2 times and they say the forum is the only place to get anywhere with them basically telling me they don't really seem to care that much and that isn't a priority to them.

Not sure what you mean by locking the screen.

If you mean disabling the wrist-tilt function that brings up the display, then  you can turn this off in settings under quick view.

If you mean lock the screen to constantly on - no idea.

Lock the screen like apple watch. Blaze restarts recording data when doing kickboxing ..

@cardude10 how does apple lock the screen?

Now if Fitbit does it the way apple does it, wouldn't apple have grounds to seek legal recourse?

I also find this highly annoying, I find I either catch my sleeve on the screen pause button when walking/running or hit the physical pause button with my glove when cycling!!

I have one h/w fix that could sort it, an accessory that clips over the top of the screen made of clear perspex, with cut outs on the side wher ethe buttons are.  This would eliminate touch screen issues, and as the buttons would be flush with the protector it would also stop my glove hiting pause.

Now if only I had a 3D printer to make one 😞

@Jonohanson

Great suggestion. I don't have a 3D-printer, so I've made an alternative system which would look great on the wrists of all those smiling models: I call it the Blaze-a-tac (probably a bit aggressive)

Sadly, the Mark 1 fell off when I took my fleece off and is probably buried somewhere in my carpet. Maybe a software update would be better eh Fitbit people?

I like the Fitbit Alta but I totally agree with the comments about the clock display. PLEASE, PLEASE make an update so the time stays displayed and acts like a regular watch. Sometimes when I flick to see the time, it does not always work and it a real pain to have to do that every single time to see what time it is.
Thanks. I will be waiting for the new update. Get right on this. I am pushing 70, but a young 70, and I want to enjoy my Fitbit now!!!!😡😡😡 :mantelpiece_clock::mantelpiece_clock::mantelpiece_clock::mantelpiece_clock:

I currently use a Fitbit Blaze and frequently hit the pause button on accident with my wrist while recording an exercise. This often results in large gaps when I am GPSing an exercise, which impacts my total distance, pace, and several other metrics.

It would be a great feature to turn on a "button lock" during exercise. Maybe require a double click, or button hold, to pause during an exercise.

Can't believe that with this many requests, it's still not a feature.

Even if it there could be an option where a looooooong press on the pause button would pause/end a workout, so that bumping it with my glove or equipment won't constantly pause the Blaze.

Meahwile, I've resorted to borrowing my wife's 80's fluorescent workout wristbands to cover the whole watch during workouts, which has been the best (and most stylish) workaround.

Without a screen lock this watch is a complete waste of money. I am a runner and chose the blaze to help me with heart rate monitoring.
I find myself continually tapping the screen so that I can view the data instead of just being able to look at the watch face. Their desire to save battery life has rendered the product irrelevant.
Also, the wrist activation is a gimmick. Completely worthless while in the middle of a workout.
I can't believe this deficiency doesn't show up in more product reviews.

I agree, there needs to be 2 functions added asap when working out!! One to disable touch and buttons (I.e have a long press area on the screen to unlock) and one to have screen enabled all the time. I'm pretty sure neither of these would require much work!

When the Fitbit app is open, I would like to disable to phones auto lock feature. This will prevent the Fitbit app from going dim then shutting off after a few minutes, similar to navigation apps.

Anyone who boxes has to find that the blaze is just not good as the action enables the pause button. Cant we get a lock screen, crazy no one has done this yet seeing all the comments on your blog

I have the same problem.  Now that it's winter I'm wearing a jacket when I run or bike.  After a little while the arms get sweaty and the touch screen gets active.  I rarely get a whole run or bike recorded now.

So I decided to try wearing my watch upside down when gloves or sleeves become an issue haven't tried yet but should work

Sorry for any misspellings...fat fingers!

I really can't believe a feature request such as 'move reminders for the Alta' is getting more movement than a clear product issue that we have on the blaze.

If you do any physical activity that includes gloves you may aswell take the watch off as the data you get will be useless as it will have been paused halfway through!!

I monitored a short walk the other day and 15 minutes in and I was paused!!  This really is getting a joke!!

Fitbit please take notice!!  Dodgy syncing I can just about deal with, but this issue I cannot, the watch is starting to feel 'not fit for purpose' and will be getting returned as such if this issue is not sorted soon!!

What would be a great idea would be an option to turn a screen lock on once the activity is running I was thinking the following:

Start activity

Lock screen with left button and lower right

Top right enables you to only scroll through active stats

Touch only allows you to scroll through current stats

Left and lower right then enables you to unlock screen

Stop activity as normal.

I really can't belive this would be hard to implement?
