Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

I have a Blaze and for the money it's a great watch, but it desperately needs a function to lock the buttons at the very least. I'm constantly interrupting workouts and turning off music because everything hits the buttons. They are in the worst places possible for people who actually use their watches.

Please update the firmware asap to have a button lock option.

I love my Blaze but its so frustrating having so many walks/runs spoiled by the watch ending the workout accidently. It was fine during the summer months when I wasn't wearing long sleeves but obviously that is not an option at this time of year. Please can this be sorted in the next update as its driving me and a lot of other people crazy. I really don't want to have to buy a different watch, but if my runs are going to continue to be ruined by not tracking correctly, then its something I'm going to have to consider.

Toddler, you guys, toddler. I need to lock the touchscreen. There are already lovely buttons waiting to become useful. Also, I am a usability professional always on the lookout for design/use conflict examples for teaching, going to file this one away!

I have to say that I'm slightly provoced that you call this problem solved. The problem is that while you are tracking your exercise, you inadvertently touch the stop button. This happens real easy when for example cycling with gloves. You raise your wrist ever so slightly, the end of the glove touches the stop button, and as far as my Surge is concerned, my workout is over. The bike mode was the reason why I went for Fitbit so this is a dealbreaker for my part. It should be possible to lock the screen by for instance doing a long press on the home button, and then you would need to open it up again before you can end your exercise.

Keep this thread going! I'm really enjoying my blaze, but have run into this issue my last few workouts, especially when wearing boxing gloves. Either the screen gets tapped or one of the buttons pushed from the wrist bending/brushing against the inside of the glove and the workout gets paused and usually finished before I'm actually done. So a screen lock function would be very helpful so that a workout can track fully and not be impacted by accidental contact.

Exactly the same for me. Just a simple button combo to lock the
screen/buttons would be perfect.

Figured out that if I turned my watch upside down for boxing it wouldn't be shut off
Hope this helps

Sorry for any misspellings...fat fingers!

Yes, man, that would be GREAT!!!! As I go for a run and wear long sleeves, the workout keeps getting paused and instead of giving me 1 workout, it gives me 10-12 smaller workouts (if I actually notice it was put accidentally on pause).

Maybe the lower button on the right could do that. I don't know it's function during the workout/run.

Please FitBit, make it happen!

Thanks Rod! I hope this re-surfaces after your comment because it's really an inconvenience that could probably be solved relatively easily.

I would suggest the button on the left (on fitbit Blaze). Maybe a 3-second hold, or something. That button is non-functional during exercise anyways...

Why this issue had not been resolved yet is beyond me. Do their software developers not test and wear their products?

Just today it stopped recording a walk; I was even wearing short sleeves.

Come on fitbit this watch is not and will never be fit for purpose until you fix this issue. In theory everyone should be able to take them back to the store over this issue. I bought mine on the assumption this issue would be fixed. Three or more emails to your customer support later and I have come to realize you will probably never understand just how annoying this issue is.

There was even a pretty sizeable update the other day, I was hoping this fix was in there. I saw no improvements. 😞

I don't think Fitbit cares about this issue and that is the feeling I have gotten the few times I contacted them directly about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they are saving this to be a new feature on the next new Blaze or similar they come out with. Unfortunately because of this issue and their lack of interest in it my next device will likely not be a Fitbit. We paid enough for this device and an issue like this should have been a priority fix.

It should have shipped with this feature. It's common sense.

This is a clear indicator that this was created by someone that doesn't a) use these watches or b) do any form of exercise

Hi moderators. I've just run into this issue too while hiking and agree it's very frustrating. The issue looks like it's been around for quite a while and has a reasonable number of up-votes can you give the forum members any idea when the next feature triage session is due and what the likely threshold for inclusion on your feature roadmap is?

I notice that this forum is tagged for both the surge and blaze. However, the supposedly official forum for this issue on the blaze can be found here.

The combined votes between the two forums are 914. By my reckoning, this makes this issue the highest priority issue as all other issues above it are for additional functionality, see top rated issues below for the blaze.

  1. Reminders to Move for Surge and Charge HR 2,808 votes
  2. Alarms that wake you more naturally 2,656 votes
  3. Battery % on App and/or Dashboard 2,162 votes
  4. On-device battery indicator / status on Charge HR 1,972 votes
  5. Custom Days Challenges 1,967 votes
  6. Vibration alerts for heart rate zones 1,742 votes
  7. Waterproof 1,628 votes
  8. Track REM, Light and Deep Sleep 1,523 votes
  9. Have the Ability To Edit Exercises 1,518 votes
  10. Add "Driving Mode" Feature to avoid erroneous steps/floors 1,245 votes
  11. Allow time display to stay on 1,229 votes
  12. Integration with Google Fit 1,155 votes
  13. Blaze needs weather app 1,155 votes
  14. Text ID on Charge and Charge HR 1,143 votes
  15. More functional sleep data analysis 1,072 votes
  16. Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake) 1,057 votes
  17. More badges 1,012 votes
  18. Battery "estimated hours until charge" 1,005 votes
  19. Night Mode for screen brightness 933 votes

All of these issues with the possible exception of a driving mode and night mode do not affect the functionality that the watch was intended for. I urge fitbit caution when reviewing these issues as not all issues which affect the fitness for purpose of your product are going to have the highest votes. If your intended customer base is focused around user friendly fitness tracking then make sure no fundamental issues exist before you start working on value adding features such as reminders to move.

Thus far I am very unhappy by the way this issue has been handled, I don't believe it has officially been acknowledged in any way that matters to the customers.

Holy Moly.......... I bought my Fitbit(s) April 2015......... and I was told by tech support that this issue would be fixed in a few weeks........ I have bought and returned 5 Fitbits because of this issue in the last 21 months....... FitBit certainly doesnt listen to its customers, in my opinion....... Thanks for posting the update!!!

I just posted a relevant post to this issue in another forum, shown below, here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Touchscreen-Lock/idi-p/716414

On a side note: personally I wouldn't be surprised is fitbit are using "Scrum" to manage their software development just by the way they promote this forum as a means to find out what the customer wants. Sometimes this approach seems to defy common sense and can really frustrate those involved. I hope a developer at fitbit reads this bit Robot Frustrated

Where is the vote for the screen lock - is it still available?  I frequently knock pause by mistake when I'm in activity mode, probably due to flinging arms around in body jam. A lock function would make the blaze perfect.

I agree.  I got the Fitbit blaze for Christmas and have had issues every time I use it during boxing or mma training.  I love the idea of tracking my workouts but it has proven pointless with constant pausing and activity interruptions to try and unpause.

Please find a solution soon or I will be switching to Apple Watch.

Thank you!

Blaze owner here.  When I'm kickboxing and am wearing wrist-wraps, the buttons get touched more than the screen does.  I need a way to lock the screen that requires maybe the left and one of the right buttons to be held for two seconds to unlock the screen.  Last workout I did the workout got accidentally paused after two minutes...

Same issue.  Worked out only to find out the workout had gotten paused a few minutes in by an inadvertant button press.  This seems like an easy win for FitBit to add and I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed already.

I wear my watch on my left wrist. I have to turn around… Backwards… On my left wrist when I work out in order to avoid. It works well when the double buttons are further away from your weist. IHaving it backwards also reminds me to stop the kickboxing workout session. But I wish they would create the lock screen like I and hundreds of others have requested.

That's a great idea as a work around! But I agree they should just have a lock screen.

What is scary, in a couple months, it'll be two years since Fitbit unilaterally changed the feature and this thread erupted into the monstrous complaint thread it is now. They still refuse to acknowledge this was a poor choice.

Breaking my device will not force me to buy a newer device; it only shows me they hold their customers with such little regard. I cannot and will not support a company who treats me in such a manner.

All touch screen devices I have , have a screen lock apart from my blaze . Fitbit you seem to have forgotten something.
