Lock screen/buttons during exercise for all Fitbit devices

I've seen similar ideas/feedback noted for the Surge/Blaze and I'd love to see the same sort of thing for the Ionic, I also saw an idea to change the 'stop exercise' button to the (left) hand button on the Ionic which would too be good but would very much prefer a lock screen if possible 🙂

When I'm sometimes performing pushups, boxing, burpees or anything that causes my hand to bend, I've sometimes ended up pushing the bottom right hand button to 'pause' the workout and then sometimes ended up pushing multiple buttons during workouts to end it prematurely.

I'd love it if it were possible to disable the buttons during certain workouts or have some kind of lock screen, maybe even a long-button push option to only unlock the screen when holding one of the buttons for a few seconds etc. At the moment, it's just far too easy to accidentally click the right hand buttons which are tied to pausing/ending workouts.

An idea which would be great would be that my old android watch had, I could turn the screen on with a button although in order to interact any further, I would need to manually swipe away a lock screen (or you could set it up with a PIN each time) and then you'd be able to start/end/pause the workout.

Thanks a lot for reading, really hope this could be considered for a future firmware update Smiley Happy

Checked my fitbit while running an OCR yesterday and sure enough, it paused unnoticed on one of the obstacles.  My next OCR will not be with fitbit.

Please add a lock option!  I've lost 2 different boot camp exercises this week alone!  It happens ALL the time!

I don't think they will. The answer is to shell out another 200 bucks for
the newest edition !

I play hockey and can’t use my Versa to track my workout as the exercise is paused when my screen hits my glove or jersey. This has also happened during regular exercise. Would be nice if there was a way to “lock” the screen and buttons so accidental touches don’t stop the workout tracking.

Hi @nomoremountainsthanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is under consideration.

I'm a bit frustrated at the placement of the start and stop button on the exercise tracking.  Throughout a round of golf multiples I'll look over at my watch only to see that in bending my wrist it's hit the pause button.  Same thing if I'm working out and doing something like burpees.  Would be nice if you had to slide out a menu to stop/pause a session.  Or have the buttons somewhere in the middle away from the sides.

Since FitBit refuses to fix this issue I finally ditched the Ionic I loved
so much and bought a Garmin.

Hi @GarrisonTO, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option on your Ionic. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!

I must lose atleast half my workouts every day because the 'Pause' button on the right hand side of the Fitbit Versa ends up accidently triggering during anything involving weights / combat or push-ups / burpees etc. It is SO annoying! Please can we have a feature to disable 'pause' during workouts? Pausing is not something I would ever need to do, I would prefer the feature was not there at all - Does anyone else have this issue / can someone suggest a workaround? 😞 Really disappointing as the main reason I bought the watch was to track calories and the info is very inaccurate as it's only recording bits and pieces..

Damm... still can't understand why don't you have already implemented this... NONSENSE. I keep pausing (without wanting to) my workouts in my Ioinic running under the rain, skiing (OMG, still not ski option also), doing Crossfit... is it that hard to implement? Really

Just listen users please, and check what other companies are doing (Garming, Suunto, Polar...)

Thanks!

2020 and still no screen lock. Such a simple function. That's really poor.

So my next device will be from another company.

It's a disgrace. The answer was they released a versa 2.
Not forking out another $200 to a company with so little regard for it's
customer s.

I recently found this new feature in the swim tracking (sw ver 70.7.14).  When I select Exercise / Swim, press Start icon, the display notifies me "Touch Disabled" for about 2-3 seconds and then starts the swim workout tracking and stopwatch.  I'm not sure where the news of this new feature is, didn't find it.  If FitBit would add this to the other workouts, would help eliminate a few more workout losses, though I know there are still losses due to the buttons getting bumped, etc.

Please fix it I still have this issue daily 😭 it makes recording exercise pointless because during my HIIT classes the pause button is constantly going on and off and there isn’t time to keep pressing the button... the button placement as really not been thought about in terms of ergonomics and people who actually exercise... As you can see so many people are facing the same issue so I’m not alone.

Hi, they did address is it.. go buy the Versa 2!
I don't find that a good customer relations approach..... But regardless of
our campaigning here... They have not acknowledged or addressed the issue.

Best of luck

StephanieMcP could you provide a link or information, how exactly it was fixed in the Versa2 ?

Ryanthehalfling, what model did you end up switching too ?

Hi Stephanie,

That does not really address the problem. Why should I have to buy/upgrade to a Fitbit 2 because the design is flawed on the original Fitbit? 🙄 seriously, if I’m going to buy another device, it probably wouldn’t be another Fitbit seeing as they can’t seem to address a basic design flaw which has been bought up by many customers and would be a very basic fix that could be applied in an app update. The device is really not suitable for recording exercise accurately. I wish I had of known before purchasing 😔

Aliabbasn - I don't disagree with you at all! Unfortunately I didn't know
either prior to investing in the "watch/pedometer" which is all I can use
it for essentially.
As I've said here before, I wouldn't be re-investing in this brand again.
Fitbit clearly have acknowledged the issue as there are no buttons on the
new Versa, but they have not ACKNOWLEDGED that those of us with the Versa
original are left short!
It's been a joke to be honest.
I am not a tekkie but I know from other posters that a simple software
upgrade would suffice!

It's a shame they don't heed their customers!

Dear Fitbit moderator, as Fitbit has continued to disregard the idea of a lockout button for the Versa one, I am sure of my stance, that I will never buy anouther Fitbit product again. This is due of course to what I perceive as a lack of customer care on your part.  But on a bonus note, as of yesterday, I have now personally talked seven people out of buying one of your products, I have said that even if the issues were fixed on the Versa 2, that Fitbit desregarded the users that it had. I will continue to use my Vera one till it dies, buy a competitor's  smartwatch and tell everyone who asks to stay away from Fitbit products.

An echo of what JayFar posted!
