Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

Hi
My need for sleep data not score numbers is similar to yours except more linked to a mental health condition . Fitbit have replied to me a number of times. They said I should use the suggestion section and tell me my message has been ‘merged’. I had already put it in the suggestion section but wonder if merged means removed from the community chat section.
Many people have contacted me and they are all of the same opinion. Many are considering an alternative device because sleep knowledge is important.
Let’s hope they listen and revert to original information or at least offer the option. I have now removed automatic update option so will monitor more carefully,

Hi
I did receive a message from them with my original request. They told me I couldn’t have an option at this time between sleep time and sleep score. An administrator messaged today to tell me there has been a merge to the suggestion section. I had already put this in suggestion session. I think the volume of comments and lack of change suggests the end user is less important than their technical team who devised this.

As commented above and quite agree - is the next update going to remove step count and give us a step score or calorie score ? Of course not. The response here is overwhelming that sleep score bears no relevance.

Sadly many people also saying they are looking at alternative devices now, I’m in that boat. I’ve had my charge 3 since last Xmas and got on really well. Even when it stopped working the support team helped me for over half an hour and we fixed it via live chat. This is an effective service - but if we’re scoring this service what would I give it ? You were 71% successful?

Nearly 300 likes and 13 pages of comments and we're still having to put up with this crap "feature". Get your act together fitbit!

I agree completely! I personally really dislike the whole sleep stages scenario but this new sleep score is ridiculously stressful to me. I have actually turned off my heart rate sensor just to be able to go back to the old style sleep summary.

The newest update changed the sleep information. Instead of times in the different types of sleep (deep, restless, etc.) we now have a score for sleep. I dislike being scored as there is no relevant data to indicate how this score was determined. What studies were used to create a score? Having a score assigned to my sleep is unsettling - it is like being graded for sleep. And there are no suggestions for improving sleep based on this arbitrary score. It's a "number" I cannot use, and do not want someone grading my sleep. I am not graded on the step count so why am I graded on sleep? If you are going to keep this sleep score, at least make it an option if I want it or not. Personally, I liked how it was prior to the sleep score. That provided far more beneficial information than this score.

Hi @krystallazuli, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about removing the sleep score or make it an option, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is currently under "Reviewed by moderator" status. This helps maintain the Community and the Feature Suggestion board more organized.

@DavideFitbit ,

The moderator edit to the title of this forum is inaccurate and misleading - it has not provided clarity. Nobody wants to turn sleep average off. We all want sleep SCORE to be turned off, or better - removed entirely.

Please change the title to: “Allow users to turn off sleep score and return to having weekly sleep average data.”

How many negative reviews are required until Fitbit will make a change? You can see ~300 customers on here threatening to throw away their devices and go to other companies. If each of us influences 1 prospective buyer per month, who then doesn’t buy from you - the revenue loss will not be sustainable.  Fitbit needs customer loyalty and positive reviews. Why dig in your heels about something that doesn’t serve us at all? I don’t care how much money was spent on the developer who came up with sleep score - it will not outweigh the loss Fitbit is about to experience in customers.  Every company makes mistakes. Accept it, fix it, and then move on.

At the moment, you are are no longer a company that we believe in. We don’t buy into your “why” because it used to be customer-centered and now it’s clearly not. Bad business move. Take the opportunity to fix it now, and give us back sleep average.

Customers: We can continue to put poor ratings on the app. We can also post publicly through social media about our opinions on these matters to make our voices heard on a larger scale.

So where do I go to “ vote” this to be put in the next update? Can someone share? Just so everyone is aware, u get emails of what others have posted to your string....until they move it to “reviewed by moderator”. Then no more notifications on email. Fitbit this is wildly unpopular the sleep “score” not the sleep average per @jmmeow

Please give us the option to track by average time asleep.  The sleep score is useless.

Edited out first part because previous comment was deleted.

Nobody here is asking for the sleep AVERAGE to be turned off. Nobody, and especially not the initial poster. ALL of the comments here say the same thing, that an arbitrary sleep score is USELESS. Especially when compared to the actual AVERAGE sleep for the week, month and even years, which can help the users make changes in lifestyle that may be helpful in increasing sleep average times.

Now, I will show just how absurd this new sleep score is. Please compare side by side the two screenshots. Taken seconds apart. To this day, when I close my iPhone Fitbit app and open it back up I still get my desired and old view sleep average but only for the first time that I open it. It then changes back to the random sleep NUMBER once I start opening up and scrolling around. So, the first screenshot on the left shows what a bad sleep night looks like in real time. You can see my average for the week is far lower than last week but still, it's only 2 nights this week, so I can pretty easily get a handle on things with a nap this week or one or two good nights of sleep. But notice what the sleep NUMBERS given for this week are. On Sunday night I slept 7 hours and 20 minutes. My sleep score was a 71 and rated "Fair". But last night I had a rough night and sleep just 5 hours and 26 minutes. But yet was given a sleep score of 80 and rated "good"! How can 5 hours and 26 minutes be rated NINE pointer higher than 7 hours and 20 minutes?? That's almost 2 hours of more sleep on Sunday night than last night but the new sleep numbers given show the exact opposite. Also look at which system is more useful. By far the one that shows my average for this week as well a last week instead of the random score that makes no sense at all.

A score of "71" for 7 hours 20 minutes and a score of "80" for 5 hours 26 minutes.

This is why you have hundreds of comments saying the same things. This is a very poor new upgrade. Sure it helps that I can still see my averages on my computer. But I am rarely seeing Fitbit from my computer but instead use my iPhone which is where we should be able to view the hours slept on average for the week, for the month and even years.

I don't know how you included screen shots. I tried and couldn't get a picture inserted. This is one big fraud to get us to buy their premium plan. Changing the rules after we have paid for the product is just immoral.

Hello average sleep fans! I've been doing a bit of looking around on twitter (which is a great place to like, RT and reply to relevant posts to boost the visibility of unmoderated content just in case anyone is a bit bored) and I've found a couple of posts which suggest that Fitbit will soon be launching a new premium service in which we PAY $25pcm to access our OWN heart rate data, leaving non-subscribers with just the stupid sleep score. Now I'm not sure about any of you (I am), but for me this is entirely not on and would result in my Fitbit going in the bin the instant this 'service' was launched.

Fitbit moderators, I await your response to this news. It's it true? Is this why the idea of making the score optional is getting such a weak response? What will be the difference between the basic and premium service if I've misunderstood these reports?

misssquiddy, Fitbit has actually already launched the new premium service. I received  a notice that I could have a free trial for a week. I'm so disgusted with Fitbit because of the whole sleep score fiasco and their non-response to the hundreds of comments that I'm not going to try the free premium service because there's no way I'd give them any money every month. I don't know what additional data is provided in the premium service, but I'm not interested at all. I just want them to remove the sleep score and bring back the weekly averages that we all thought we were getting when we purchased our Fitbit. What they're doing is unethical. FITBIT ARE YOU LISTENING TO YOUR (previously) LOYAL USERS?

@Eastonworks, I got the same offer and laughed.  Why would I try premium for free when the main app is so unstable?  I may have tried it if I felt that the app was working and was not draining my phone's battery.
I have done my research and have narrowed down the possible choices of what I will be getting to replace my Fitbit.
It is a shame.  This was a company that had a reputation.  Now, it is just coming across as arrogant and callous to its users.

Why has the subject line been updated? No one is asking for the average sleep time to be removed so your “update” 1) doesn’t provide clarity 2) now wrongly includes a feature that we all are asking for!! 3) shows that you’re not reading/listening/hearing us 4) is a joke given that we’re still waiting for a proper response to this whole thing. In light of the lack of one, or feeling like our voices are important to you, I’ve now taken my Fitbit off at nights as this is no longer something I feel I merely need to accept. You don’t respect your users, we don’t have to wear or support your brand.

This topic has been moderated and now says "Allow users to turn sleep score and sleep average time off" ,previous said "Removing the sleep score"

- 99% of the 300 people plus that have commented want the topic to say:

"Allow users to turn sleep score off, and turn on the average sleep time on in the app version"

Even if you don't make the old avg sleep time the default, if users can switch off this useless sleep score and revert to what worked well in previous versions of the app, I think you address the major concerns expressed here.

Twist the comment thread so we are ignored, way to 'spin' Fitbit! The developers know what we want and they don't care.

No, they won't change anything because they are trying to monetize the Sleep Score.  The Sleep Score is purposefully vague, confusing, and useless, otherwise why would anyone pay money to actually learn more about how and why the score is calculated?

Most of us appreciate the Fitbit data because it is just that:  simple data.  We can choose to interpret it however we like, taking into account whatever personal parameters, choices, or feelings that surround the data.   I have zero need for Fitbit to offer its own evaluation around my sleep data.  I am much more capable of looking at the raw data and deciding for myself how to rate my sleep.  Looking at weekly averages, week after week was a big part of being able to gauge if I was making progress toward my personal sleep goals or if I needed to make adjustments.  Now, I no longer have the opportunity to do that.  My Fitbit is essentially worthless to me and I'll likely go over to the Apple Watch.

Ft386

Also, the title of this post is incorrect.  We want the Sleep Score to be optional and for the weekly averages to be restored in place of the Sleep Score.

I bet they thought this couldn't get any worse, and then they managed to screw up even further.

It's not like it's something you can't turn back on, it's already in the app. It's just stubbornness to try and force us to pay the subscription. There has been no information saying whether the sub would fix this issue anyways. None of us are going to pay extra for something we already had.

I used to recommend fitbit to friends and family for their sleep tracking. Not anymore!

This is getting more and more ridiculous every day. Now they are not only ignoring our feedback, they are literally mocking the community by changing the subject to say directly the opposite of what it said before!

Let's send the moderator 300 comments on the misleading subject they created, by flagging this post. To do this, click Options in the top right corner, then Flag Post and then leave a comment about the misleading subject to the moderator.

To change the subject line on a thread that ALREADY had over 300 comments, to something with an entirely different meaning, is misleading at best and, really, to be honest, something quite sinister at worst, which it sure seems like to me.
