@lifebmad that's a great solution for Android. I don't believe there is a similar way to do this for iPhone because all apps have to be installed from the App Store. If anyone knows of a similar way to download a prior version for iPhone, please share it. Thanks!
Android Package Kit mirror (use the upper case letters with mirror and . .com for site name) is an excellent repository for older versions of software that aren't infected or changed.
Unfortunately, you can't obtain and install version 3.2 on iPhone, it's technically impossible.
So, as I said, users like me have only three solutions - lose money by ditching/selling a perfectly functional Fitbit device for pennies, pay money for a third-party app or pay the same money to Fitbit. I've lost faith and said goodbye to Fitbit as a company, but from a rational standpoint it would be less expensive and more convenient to me to temporarily pay money to this thief to get my stuff back. I hate this thief and would never deal with him again, but other choices are more expensive and less convenient than paying the ransom.
I'm still following this thread with email updates. Like everyone else I still HOPE sleep averages can be put back to where they were, in the default view, and sleep score being optional or at least somewhere we can go find it, if wanted. But at this point I doubt that's going to happen with new ads still advertising sleep 'SCORE'. After being stuck with it for a couple months now I would probably check to see what my sleep score was, out of curiosity, maybe once a month. But to keep reading in this thread how so many people suggest dumping their fitbit devices altogether, I simply cannot agree with. It really would be like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
I've read and looked at ALL of the tracker options posted here and elsewhere. There are NO 'better' alternatives, IMO. Period. Unless you don't want anything at all. And to read comments from people that admit using their Fitbit changed their sleeping habits and times, increased by HOURS, to then throw it out because the sleep score is now default view sounds silly and even childish to me. For myself and most fitbit users the sleep average times are still right there, just an extra second or two away from where they once were. I would prefer averages be the default view but at least I can quickly get to those numbers, which is for sure livable and appreciated.
Nobody here has shown a better alternative to Fitbit. Not a single person who's posted. I've read them all. The Apple watch doesn't even have sleep data yet unless through an app. And so what if it did? You don't even get a full day without having to recharge the battery. Not even ONE DAY. Fitbit not only lasts 6 days now on a charge (nobody comes even close) but also gives a full variety of useful data that I enjoy having. Nothing as important as steps and sleep average time to me (active minutes, stairs, calories etc all still also somewhat useful). And I still get both steps and sleep time in full measure. And with 6 days battery life now.
Two weeks ago I lost my Fitbit in the ocean. I had an aftermarket sports strap that simply wasn't as effective as the normal strap that comes with it but it was far more comfortable. I had an older backup Fitbit that I was able to sync with right away and didn't lose anything in the changeover. Nothing lost even though Fitbit in the Pacific ocean somewhere. So, I took one more hard look at all of the other devices out there and bought both myself and my wife brand new Fitbit Versa 2 models. You get 6 days now instead of 5 days on a charge. The screen is higher end and processor a little faster. But most importantly for me is that I simply maintain all the data I currently have (for 3.5 years now) and it integrated in perfectly as expected. I also bought the new Fitbit brand SPORTS band which is so much nicer and safer fastened than the aftermarket that version I was using that was lost in the ocean with my old Versa. I couldn't be happier right now with both on my wrist.
Like everyone else here I'd still like sleep score made optional. I also think the new dashboard is a step backwards. But like everything else in life I have gotten used to it, at least good enough, already. But most importantly to me the data that I need is all still there, no premium subscription needed, and nobody can beat the entire Fitbit package that has helped me make significant and helpful improvements in my life. And I fully plan to keep using mine for years to come. When something truly beats out Fitbit, including batter life, then I would be willing to consider dumping mine along with the years of data. But that hasn't happened yet. Not even close.
Please get rid of sleep score. Already despise how difficult you make it to get my own data, now you impose some weird, non scientific sleep score. I can find hours for the current week but for previous weeks it’s an exercise in frustration. This is making me look at competitive products. Let people see their data. Can’t stand it.
No. It is isn't silly or childish to me - or many others here - that we are ready to move to another company for fitness tracking. My deal is that I was promised one thing when I purchased my device, and now I am being given something else - something I didn't ask for and do not find helpful. Just accepting this change is what FitBit is hoping we will do - and then buy the premium service. Well, not me.
If nothing else, this has given me an opportunity to reevaluate whether I even need a tracking device. I would like a dressier watch with phone notifications, so I am looking at my options. And as a runner I like GPS, but the rest, I can do without.
Vinny Jogger, Gamins are a viable option and they do track sleep. They even have a special part in their tracker that measures some kind of skin temperature. Where I find Gamin lacking is believe it or not their Interface (its worse), and the Garmin community simply doesn't appear to be any near as deep, rich and comprehensive as the Fitbit community. And the Fitbit community is a very powerful factor when considering pros and cons.
I had a Jawbone tracker. It had no display but the web interface and app was decent and it tracked sleep just as well as a Fitbit and that tracker was 5 year old tech (now out of biz). It was a nice looking band and the jawbone community was pretty good also. I was happy with it but my wife had a Fitbit and I got jealous how she could easily see her steps, when I had to go to my phone to check mine. So I jumped ship.
I'm thinking now the difference between Fitbit and Garmin is far closer than was Fitbit and Jawbone. Fitbit is really in no position to be so arrogant with its customer base
Please bring back average weekly sleep and ditch the sleep score. I slept far longer last week and felt significantly fresher than this week, yet my score for both weeks is 77. An incredibly unhelpful feature.
I am on my 4th Charge 3 device in less than a year as I had issues with 3 devices already. I am done with Fitbit. I haven't found them very helpful. In fact, once it took me over 3 weeks to get a replacement. It doesn't seem that very many people care that much about the EMF's but I do. Fitbit devices can't be put in airplane mode so they emit constant EMF's and radiation. I settled on the Oura when another user shared info on this forum. I haven't gotten it yet but I feel much more comfortable with this option.
Before I had Fitbit devices, I used Jawbone and they had awful service right before disappearing so I expect that Fitbit is on it's last leg and will soon be either bought out or they are going bankrupt. This may be the reason for trying to suck more money out of it's users as competition increases.
I also decided I was too attached to all the data and I just want to track sleep and movement. I don't need to answer calls or text people from a device attached to my body. I never wanted a cell phone on my body 24/7 for health reasons and therefore I don't want a wifi tracking device hooked to me either.
They are addictive and I am happy to be without any device for the time being and moving towards a healthier, (mental and physical) option!
Seriously thinking about getting an Apple Watch :watch:️ I’m tired of Fitbit constantly changing things with no “opt out”. It’s idiotic. I don’t have time to fiddle with learning whatever new dumb thing you’ve changed. I like consistency. I want to be able to open an app and know exactly how to find the information I’m looking for. I’m not keen on updates and “improvements”. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”
Yes, yes, yes!!! Making the sleep score optional will be an outstanding improvement. I find it so much less useful than the sleep average, and don't like that it takes up so much screen real estate either. There are so many variables that go into the number, and the only one I can actually control is my bedtime (and maybe my arising time). How much REM and deep sleep, how much awake time - I have absolutely no control over these and for that to be rolled into a "grade" seems pretty ridiculous. How do I "work" to improve this grade - well, actually I can't ... so I ask, "what's the point?" and "what actual purpose does it serve?"
The whole point of the Fitbit, at least for me, is as a motivating and record-keeping device ... of things I can control via my choices. Drink more water, walk/run/row/exercise more, be active more, walk a bit every hour - each of these things I have control over and so can make choices to improve my results. That is not the case for almost all factors involved in my sleep - so for heavens sake don't grade it which implies that working harder will enable me to improve my score as this just isn't true.
And, besides not being an asset, the grade also is a substantial negative/liability for some folks as it increases anxiety (again, about something they have no control over).
So, please, please, please, make it optional ... removing it all together would also work :-).
A very well reasoned and passionate request. Too bad it's being delivered to a company that doesn't care what you think and works tirelessly to thwart our every attempt to improve their products. All you can do is go to Alpha Pi Kappa mirror dot com with an Android device and obtain V. 2.78 to solve your dilemma. If you have an Apple device, my sympathies, you'll have to go to YouTube and find how to acquire and install the older version. Be sure to turn off auto update after you do this.
Irakez- Man O Man do I agree with you. Shady is a great new word to describe the Fitbit antics and their oblivious attitude to the concerns of customers/ clients.
So, Fitbit really is just ignoring the thousands of paying customers who are publicly writing about their unhappiness with the new features? All the techies who develop these apps can’t read their own forums? That is terrible business, Fitbit... ignoring your paying customers is a really terrible and shortsighted way to do business.
A sleep score is absolutely useless and judgemental. I've always been a wrestless sleeper my whole life, and I have sever insomnia, so I already know my sleep patterns are off. I really don't need the extra "benefit" of some random meaningless number to judge how I slept. Being judged for poor sleep actually causes more anxiety and issues for my already bad sleep. It shouldn't be optuonal. It should be deleted entirely from the app.
Please give us this option. I have been tracking my hourly averages to try and need my hourly goals. In this effort the sleep score is absolutely useless to me- I can’t see my weekly average during the week on the main screen to se how i am doing except right at the moment I open the sleep tile, so I’m constantly closing and re-opening the app to try and catch it. Even then I need to swipe to see my weekly hours, and beyond that when I click on a Day to look at my chart all I see in the main screen is a useless number. It is as if you are telling us we should try for a certain numbers of hours but then you hide our ability to see those hours so deep in that I want to give up on tracking sleep altogether. I used to love the sleep features now it makes me depressed. Please please give use the option for the old views.
Sleep Score is useless and takes up space from relevant data. It never seems to take into account anything but overall duration. I want this psychologically discouraging piece of trash out of my view. Who does the vetting in FitBit?! What a mistake.
I don’t find the sleep score a useful replacement to average hours slept. As an executive who works long hours and have small children at home the number of hours slept is a key metric for me and something I am trying to improve. I like the idea of a quality measurement, such as sleep score, but it feels fairly opaque and I don’t see it as a replacement for the number of hours slept but rather an addition. If this continues to be the only option I will change provider.
I’m another loyal customer who wants to grade Fitbit POOR in their attention to this sleep score issue. We are looking for data in a tracker and not your judgement. Please give back the “Time averages” as an option to the scores. My mindset is the most important thing in my mornings and to wake up to be told lI’m only fair when I am happy with the hours I did get and feel great is mentally discouraging. Even if on one level you know it’s fake news, it still is a negative vibe. Please listen to your customers.
A few studies have been conducted on the Fitbit Charge 2 to evaluate the accuracy of sleep time, awake time and sleep stages compared with the results of medical devices.
It was determined that sleep and awake times were quite accurate whereas sleep stages were not very accurate. Since the sleep score is partially based on the sleep stage data, it stands to reason that the sleep score is pretty much meaningless. I know someone who works at a sleep lab and she says there is no possible way for a device on your wrist to measure the detailed information required to properly evaluate sleep stages.
I purchased my Fitbit Alta HR with this in mind and have been very happy with it until now. The total sleep time has been the best indicator of how I feel the next day, not the sleep score. Because of this, my sleep time average is what I want to see at a glance. Please bring this option back!
Move or remove “Sleep Score” from user stats, make it part of Sleep Insights for premium users only, by using the first filter “premium user = Y/N” and the second “Sleep Insights enabled = Y/N”. It‘s called the KISS principle.
