My sense is that we peeps in these forums are being PLAYED. Sure, it's good we get told that the subject of this thread, "Make Sleep Score Optional", is now under consideration by Fitbit. But that just calms down the troops some, I suppose. I just today received the email for the new Versa 2 and you can see right there in the ad itself it includes "Sleep SCORE" right there in the ad as attached. They don't plan on getting rid of something that they are clearly advertising for new products right now. It's a truly meaningless feature because it is so inconsistent. At least with sleep average, the previous default view, you had the necessary info to make decisions. I still do appreciate being able to see my weekly, monthly and yearly averages by sliding the main graph and opening up the page, but it's still harder to see your actual daily sleep times for the week because now replaced by the useless score. If your sleep was broken up into more than one section for a night, the new sleep score view does not add it up, you just get the score next to both sections of time and have to do some quick math, whereas before it was right there on main page and truly helpful.
The thread has been up for a couple of months but "under consideration" just happened recently, I believe last week. Post a link where to leave the review.
Firstly, IMHO, ”sleep score” offers no value to the user, and at best should be removed and hours should be restored. I’ve found no description (neither prior to or after its unannounced arrival and replacement of the more useful and accurate hours and weekly averages), as to its function, method of calculation nor the science used in making it ranking determination.
Secondly, mobile device screen space is precious real estate, so from an experienced GUI designers perspective, the Icon space used is overly excessive. How does a large circle with a single number take precedence over actual sleep data analysis? Especially in light of the first point. So, if disabled then size becomes a moot point. If it moves to the user optional choice, make the circle of size similar to those of the Today tab’s “Activities”.
This sleep score is useless and I don’t see it has never ben scientifically validated.
I don’t want it and want it to be removed. Or be placed in a hidden place, certainly not as the main indicator of my night and of my weekly sleep average.
I cannot understand why Fitbit does not listen to its customers, and sends useless reactions.
this is very disappointing and calls for using other activity devices.
i've been using fitbit since the release of fitbit flex because this was the best option out there at that time for an accurate and decent-looking pedometer and continued to stay with the brand 'cause i figured why switch from a good thing but this sleep score is seriously making me consider buying a new product. unless sleep score is made optional soon, i'm just gonna bite the bullet and finally get an apple watch to replace the old versa since it can do pretty much everything the versa can, too, but with the addition of a ton of third-party sleep tracking apps i can choose from. i know that may seem like a drastic response to just one small feature but that feature became the most important for me since i only really use smartwatches for sleep tracking these days as i'm now in medicine and need to keep track of my sleep daily, weekly, even monthly to make sure i'm getting enough to stay mentally sharp. i mean, you can't really tell, yourself, if you're getting enough sleep to be able to make proper judgment calls if you just feel tired all the time regardless, right?
If fitbit does not allow users to make the useless 'Sleep Score' feature optional by the end of the year, I'm certain that I will find a new Garmin vívosport from Santa Clause waiting for me under the Christmas tree! I've been a very satisfied and loyal fitbit customer for 5 years. Since then, I've purchased 5 fitbits (for both myself and for others) because I liked them so much. Removing one of its most useful features gives me no choice but to purchase a similar device from another company. I'm also not paying a monthly subscription fee to access data that is already on a device that I PURCHASED to create that data for my own use. Get with it fitbit and listen to your customers!
I strongly dislike the sleep score and would appreciate if it was an option, as opposed to required (as it is now). I like tracking my sleep but do not want this bogus value associated to it. Making it configurable would be wonderful.
Hi @nicolep8806, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!
Think this group deserves a timeline regarding the "under consideration" decision for for making the baseless and useless sleep score optional. I was told by customer service to turn off sleep tracking if I don't want to see the sleep score - either that or don't wear it to bed. Don't see how that's helpful when consumers purchase these devices to track daily health trends. So according to customer service - no change to making the sleep score optional. Shoulda hired a few more UX experts before launching this lame-**ahem** feature IMO.
In the last day and a half I have counted 46 posts to various comments. Not a single one had praise for the sleep score. Every single one was critical and wanted the option to ignore the sleep score, turn it off, or revert to what we used to have. The message could not be clear to Fitbit. Your customers are unhappy.
I just sent a message to the moderator. Over the last two days I have counted 46 comments all of the negative and critical of the sleep score. Not a single one has a positive thing to say. Everyone wants to sleep score to be gone. Everyone wants the option to at least turn it off. Everyone would prefer reverting to the old style of hours of sleep. When will Fitbit listen to his customers.? They are not happy!
I've not read all of the comments so this may have been said before.
Sleep Score should be optional - both the hours slept data and SleepScore should show and users should be able to choose which one shows as a default.Fitbit must be aware of the threads / comments wanting the information on hours slept and some users refer to hours slept to monitor their health. Some users, particularly those who have issues with sleep, feel the sleep score is judgemental and has a negative impact on their sleep / mood whereas with hours slept they used Fitbit to help them monitor their sleep.
Fitbit has helped me improve my health / wellbeing in a number of areas and I can see if sleep was one of them I would want the option to choose what information presented first.
I agree! I hate the sleep score and loves the average of sleep better. It helps to let the doctors know my average of sleep a week to try and see why I sleep the way I do. Please make this an option to choose sleep score or back to the way it was or even better get rid of the sleep score. Thanks.
You summarized the various threads and comments very well. All we hope for now is a Fitbit will listen and revert to a model that worked extremely well for users and customers.
The same goes for their new dashboard. And other threads no one is liking it and asking if they can have the option to choose between fitness preferred the dashboard and the classic dashboard that everyone seems to prefer.
You are to be commended. And remember research shows that for every person commenting there are another 10 to 20 people who feel exactly the same, or in the same situation but just failed to offer comments.
That means for the 300 commenters there are between 3000 and 6000 more users who just have not bothered to express their frustration.
We can only hope that Fitbit is monitoring this, paying attention and is prepared to take action and not just put it under consideration.
I was one of the early people who posted on this thread and have been amazed but not surprised at the amount of comments that have been added in the past few weeks. I have also been dismayed and surprised at the lack of action on Fitbit's part.
After months of waiting with zero action on Fitbit's part I am now moving on from fitbit. I've written it before but the idea of a score is truly nonsensical. Imagine if "Weight Watchers" suddenly added a score. Imagine if when using that app you set what you have your food intake goal to be, and then you still get an 80 %. It would be insane, right? Judging your food intake by score? That's the same as what fitbit is doing here, but with sleep.
Fitbit had the perfect product. I couldn't wait to check my hours slept every morning. It was the first thing I did, before coffee. Now, it is simply a source of anxiety.
As I said early - I am never one to post or complain. I am also someone that is loyal to a fault to my favorite brands, be they car rentals or airlines...or fitness trackers.
There's two major failures here:
1) If fitbit wanted a premium feature, and they kept what was there and adding additional sleep tracking - I actually would have paid it! I love tracking my sleep and up till now I loved the company. Instead they took away what was there and added a big cartoon judging score, and want me to pay more.
2) If fitbit read all these comments and put out a release saying "hey guys, we understand we made a mistake. Give us two to three months to include a button to make it optional." Well I would have stayed. Everyone makes mistakes. But the lack of any real response to all these complaints is a...disgusting way to run a company.
So for all the above reasons, and reasons in my previous posts - I have moved on to the Samsung Galaxy Fit. It does a similar job to fitbit. It has its own challenges, but most importantly it doesn't have the terrible judging sleep score. I've worn it a few weeks now. I would recommend it to anyone like myself who has been a longtime fitbit user and has felt betrayed.
We live in an era of ecosystems. The best thing a company can do is get a customer in to their ecosystem. Fitbit has competition from Samsung, Garmin, and soon Apple. They had me in their system, and now they've not only lost a customer for future devices, but they've lost someone interested in their ecosystem long term. It's not just losing one product buy to a competitor, it's lost a lifelong customer.
I feel that in all my posts in this forum I've tried to be helpful and if possible, someone eloquent. I wish I could end it on an eloquent note, but I'm just too disappointed in fitbit to end that way.
So I'll say this:
Fitbit - you really dropped the ball. Not just for putting the score in, which is a fixable mistake - but for your lack of communication, transparency, and utter neglect to your customer base.
It's disgusting behavior for a company. And by your inaction and refusal to simply have a function that we've always had, you've lost a life long customer. There's no other way to say it, but you should be ashamed of the way you run your company.
