Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

I don't find the sleep score helpful either, nor all that accurate.

It's more helpful to me to see number of hours slept first, rather than the sleep score.

Totally agree. Especially as they have updated software and launched something that doesnt even work on inspires! It is a non-feature. It doesnt give any other score than zero and is totally incompatible yet doesnt give you the option to revert to averaged hours. It is akin to sending my husband to a supermarket who have decided they will no longer accept card or cash and will only accept old bicycles. May work elsewhere but utterly useless here!

I have an inspire and it's not even compatible. Fitbit have taken a feature that was useful and a large reason I got it as I struggle with ME and they have replaced it with something that doesnt even work with this technology. My sleep score is and always will be zero

Utterly pointless.

Hi @J-Theo, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about turning off the sleep score feature, this feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here as it is currently marked as "Under consideration". This helps maintain the Community and the Feature Suggestion board more organized.

I have used Fitbit daily since August 2016. The sleep score is a terrible idea. My suggestion is that you make it optional so we can go back to the ranges.  I was about ready to purchase my third Alta, but I am waiting for this sleep score issue to resolve. Others have said to post a rating 1 on social media sites to get the company's attention. I am hoping it won’t come to that.

Please add an option to turn off sleep score and see average sleep time instead. The only reason I got fitbit was because I have a chronic sleeping disorder and needed to track the hours I was sleeping because I'm bad at reliably writing them down. With hard work on my sleep hygiene, my sleep is the best it's been in my entire adult life. Yet now I have this judgmental app grading me and telling me it isn't good enough. It's demoralizing - I'm already doing the best I can. This is enough to make me consider not using fitbit at all.

I agree the sleep score is just frustrating. I had 4 hours and 27 minutes sleep and it called it fair! Wtf how is that fair, if you get 4.5 hours sleep and someone asks how you slept you don’t say you had a fair night! Go back to the hours.

Bring back the average sleep calculation. It was my favorite Fitbit feature and now it’s gone.

Sleep score does nothing for me. Considering my favorite feature is gone, it would be hard to justify continuing with Fitbit when making next purchase. Please do bring average sleep back. —4-year Fitbit user

What is the status of implementing this option in Fitbit software? Is this ever going to happen? Or is this (ridiculous) sleep score a permanent fixture? I was planning to upgrade my Charge 2 but am having second thoughts. Not only do I not appreciate software updates like this but the response to so many comments of people hating this feature should have Fitbit staff running as fast as possible to re-program and make customers happy. The lack of expressed intent to indeed fix this problem, is well, almost more of a problem than rolling out this useless sleep score without even offering it as an option. Suddenly, everyone in the world is supposed to refer to their score in terms of 'score' when everyone knows it's hours that count. This makes it seem like Fitbit is really out of touch with its customers. Maybe this is the beginning of the end for Fitbit...companies have done this before - on top of the world doing great, and then crashed hard when unhappy customers left, OR listen to customers and change things. It reminds me of the New Coke fiasco in the 80s. Eventually though, we'll get tired of talking about this issue and instead begin walking...away from Fitbit.

I totally agree with everyone that the sleep score is not as helpful.  I like so much more the old format when you could see your sleep time and average sleep time.  You should be able to toggle between your sleep score and the average time.

for the sleep score, what may make it more useful, is an explanation why it was low or average and how to improve it, if possible.  That can provide a guide to improve your sleep quality.  Granted that it may not be always possible due to medical reasons

You can still see the screen with your sleep time.  The screen that has the sleep score is the first screen you see by default.  You will notice right under the Thursday 4 dots.  You can slide the graph and bring the screen that we are used to that shows your sleep time and average sleep.  You cannot make that screen the default so you have to slide the screen each time.  At least this better that not being able to see the screen

I believe anything earlier than 3.1 of the app doesn't have sleep score. I deleted the app and found version 2.78 of the app on the interweb, I'm running that with no issues

But the weekly averages of time slept have gone away and were replaced by
some subjective inaccurate “sleep score” that I have yet to read a positive
post about changing to sleep score rather than hours and minutes. I realize
as does everyone else you can open each night individually and do the
averaging math, but why do we have to do that when you had weekly averages
displayed as hours and minutes. This issue should no longer be “under
consideration”, change it back already. Please

You are very right. The sleep score seems so meaningless and pointless.

You are so right. Hundreds of comments and complaints, many very constructive but Fitbit ignores them. Their soul action is for an occasional moderator to say I moved it to another thread so we can have people talk about it. People are talking about it. They do not like the sleep score. Fitbit do something now!!!!
do not simply have your intervention of moving comments you consider worthy to a new thread. Change is likely a foot for Fitbit. Financial story see the company may be in trouble. Well perhaps this is why.

I disagree. For all those people that are struggling with sleep problems seeing a score that is totally irrelevant is demoralizing. Customer after customer have said how do you fleeting the scores are even when they feel they got a reasonable sleep. Your Fitbit wants to respond to customers they will allow them to have the first page show hours of sleep. Make the score of the second page. I suspect very few people will flip to the second page if it is the score.

Yes please. Change it back. Please.

Users are being polite. They are saying please change it back. The next polite move will be simply to buy another product.

I got my Fitbit around 3 months ago to help me with my sleep. It has been – P H E N O M I N AL. But… honestly? The average sleep time being listed for each week was a part of that benefit. I could notice patterns and shift my day accordingly. Replaced now is the Sleep Score…

I tried to give Sleep Score a chance. I know I’m very negative with change, so I tried to be open. But? Realistically? It provides no benefit, no useful averaging, and nothing of value to me. A “70 Fair” might be a bad night for someone else, but “70 Fair” is celebration to me. I refuse to accept you calling the best my body can do as just “Fair”. It should be **ahem** fantastic. For my own Fitbit to judge me… come on.

Anyway, that’s just my story. You didn’t need it since there’s literally hundreds here to read.

Fitbit mods should be firmer with their managers, tell them the community isn’t enjoying it, and sleep score is not the money-making premium-subscribing attempt it was blatantly thought up to be. I don’t want this feature, I wouldn’t pay for it, but I would honestly pay for premium if it got sleep score OFF my Fitbit!!

It works for me...

I downloaded an old version,

I use version 2.78

No sleep score!

Been running it for weeks now with no issues

I'm sure it's bee said already, but I'm bot sure why this is even a question. We have the weekly average from inception and a change was made without, what would seem to be, many users' input. I had my goal set to the default 8 hours/week, which I never hit. My goal isn't about daily sleep, but rather where my weekly sleep lands. This was an annoying change. Seems like it would be an easy fix for the devs. And did I understand correctly that apple devices already have this option, just not us Android users? If that's the case, why? Why? Why?

I have issues with sleep and I have always liked to keep track of my weekly average.  The average time has now been replaced by the average score.

The new sleep score doesn't even seem to be accurate.  It doesn't seem to be consistent with other nights that have similar time in deep sleep etc.

At least show average time with average score so people can track what they want.

@Genova84 If this is an option on Apple I don't see a setting. I just upgraded yesterday to iOS 13.1.1 and nothing is different.

Hi @rayban776. Thanks for sharing your suggestion about being able to see the sleep average time in the Fitbit app with us! I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can check this other suggestion here. Also, let me advise you to check our help article for more details about the sleep score and how it's calculated. Keep adding your suggestions!

A few people have mentioned that you can see the weekly average by going to the first thing you see and then slide the graph to the second screen that shows the sleep time and average sleep. This isn't even close to the data view we used to have because it only shows bars for each day with no data to say how much sleep we had (you have to estimate by looking at how tall the bars are). And you also can't see how the sleep for each day was broken into deep, REM, light, and awake periods. Previously we could see all this information at once, all together. It was very helpful to see it this way. Just being able to see a weekly average without the aggregate data isn't useful. Fitbit, why aren't you listening to your users who are literally screaming that we want this? For many of us, the main reason we bought and use our Fitbits it to be able to have quick and easy access to this sleep data in order to work on improving our sleep. You have taken away something we paid for. And you've added something we don't want. If you can't give us what we paid for, you should refund our purchase price.

@Genova84and @Granacher

FYI- I am using the Apple version of the recent Fitbit app and there is no way to turn off the sleep score—that’s a false rumor. However, there is a way to see your sleep average, buried in the app, which I believe doesn’t work on some of the other operating system versions of the latest Fitbit app. While I can still dig into the data to see my sleep average, I’m still VERY annoyed that I have to see the sleep score average where I used to easily see my hours of sleep average. Sleep score has no value to me, and I want my useful data back where it was easy to access!

For you other folks using the Apple version, if you don’t already know, here’s where you can find the sleep average in the Fitbit app:

From the home page, click on sleep. You should now be on the sleep page and see the annoying sleep score graph at the top. Swipe the graph left and you come to the Hours Slept graph. Tap it. You should now see a graph for average hours of sleep this week and the tally of your average at the top. Now, swipe right and you will see last week’s average hours of sleep. Swipe right again to see the week before that, and so on.
