Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

@Dragonflyagkyou're right about being able to find the sleep average if you go into the app a few pages. However, as I mentioned in an earlier post, the graph only shows part of the data. If Fitbit thinks this is an acceptable replacement for what they used to provide, they are very much mistaken.

While I agree the new sleep score is a huge step backwards and hopefully soon enough to be replaced with what was originally there, and what everyone here wants, the sleep time AVERAGES, I nonetheless don't see what you say you are limited to. When you scroll the top graph "SLEEP SCORE" to the left and display the, 'HOURS SLEPT" graph, then simply click the double arrow expand icon, and you will see your sleep average for the week/previous weeks, the month/previous months and year/previous years. Attached is showing my sleep average for the month of September. But it also shows this week (just last night since today's Monday) and as far back as we have records for.

The sleep 'stages' breakdown is still on the daily report once you click on whatever day you wish to look at. It's even on the silly sleep score page but you have to click on it and open up that page.

Again, HATE the sleep score and is completely useless top me and wholly inconsistent. But the numbers I really want are easy enough for me to find so I'm not completely stranded with needing to use a calculator.

Over time the moderators have changed the name of this thread/suggestion to be just about making the sleep score optional.

For those of you who would also like to get our sleep averages back where they used to be, there is a separate suggestion for that. Please go vote for it too.

@TheVinnyYes, I realize you can see that bar graph. But the graph doesn't show the hours and minutes of each night's sleep; you can only estimate by looking at the numbers on the left. And it doesn't show the breakdown of deep, REM, light, and awake times. Seeing all of this information at the same time, with the averages, is what provided huge value. Having to tap/click/slide around to gather each piece of data isn't useful because it doesn't allow you to see the patterns that were previously easy to see. Fitbit has made something that was previously easy and useful become cumbersome and difficult. Most of us aren't interested in products that make our experience more difficult.

OK, thank you... I didn't realize how big of an issue it was for people. I
found average time to be very helpful, I noticed differences if it was only
15 minutes off. The graph doesn't help too much.

I really like the idea of making the score optional. I don't need more
negativity in seeing my low sleep scores.

@TheVinny

I too am able to see the average hours of sleep on the page you see it, but that is not true for everyone. It seems that some platforms show that graph but the average hours of sleep is not shown at the top like it is on your screen shot. Other’s have posted their screen shots showing that it is missing.  It seems that the iOS/Apple version of the Fitbit app is one of the platforms that shows the average hours of sleep at the top of that graph. I’m not sure which platforms don’t but they are out there. I thought it would be useful to let you know that there are slight differences in the app across platforms, even if they are using the current version of the app.

The bar graph pages have never showed the hours and minutes of "each night's" sleep. That's always been available when you click on a specific day. Attached is my stupid sleep score page and then second shot is when I click on last night's page and you see the breakdown you're referring to. In fact the daily report even stays the same when you slide the graph over to Hours Slept before expanding the double arrows. So maybe I'm missing something. I still loathe the sleep score default page. It is USELESS. But I can quickly and easily find the averages I need as well as how each night's sleep went. If that was entirely gone then I would switch products. But can live like this for now. The most important feature to me is my weekly average. That's when I know when I need to make changes for the week and always try to keep it above 7 hours. Otherwise life suffers when too much under that for me and then it means an afternoon nap or earlier bedtime, sleep in later etc, whatever it takes to get back up above 7.

I agree with you Dragonfly but Easton is saying the graph is missing 'daily info' which I never recall seeing once you went to weekly/monthly/yearly graph pages even in older version.

@TheVinny, that's correct that the bar graph pages never showed the hours and minutes. My point is that because of this, it's not an acceptable substitute for getting the weekly average. We need to go back to getting the weekly average on the same page as the breakdown of sleep cycles. Without having to tap/swipe to get to it.

Please make it optional, it provides me no useful information to explain a good v bad nights sleep. some of my nest sleep scores ive woken up feeling lethargic and unrested

Eastonworks,

With that I fully agree. The old default view would show each day's breakdown AND this week's sleep average, all right on the first page. And now it has been replaced as you show and we all know with sleep silly SCORE average which is useless and inconsistent at best. To me your initial post a few up made it sound like that information was not available to you or anyone AT ALL any longer, which as we can all see is not true. It does mean more scrolling and searching which is a step backwards, I agree. But it is there and available which is better than I originally thought and not being there at all. For me it takes 2 seconds to go from today's sleep time and then to seeing my average for this week. But even so agree it was better when BOTH on same page when first opening up.

I'm assuming you're referring to the graph at the top which is kind of an
estimate... It sure doesn't give the detail I liked with an actual time
average.

The weekly average doesn't show on my mine. Yes, I can calculate because
the data is there but this is stupid. Also i have never had a sleep score
above zero. I want it gone. How hard is that?

Rayban, on my device, if I click the double arrow icon on the "Hours Slept" graph you will see the actual average TIMES listed instead of just a graph which I would agree just a graph is not helpful.

TheVinny

Click on double arrows on top right, just above graph, to see actual numbers. If you don't have those expand page arrows then that's a different story obviously.

@TheVinnyI have the double-arrows, but when I click on them I don't get actual numbers. Just bars.

TheVinny

I thought you wrote that you could see the numbers, just not on the home page together with the week's average. How then can you see actual weekly/monthly/yearly sleep average NUMBERS if not through the double arrows on the "HOURS SLEPT" graph? That for me would be a deal breaker if we had no way of seeing actual average numbers.

TheVinny
Strider

Remember, not the "sleep score" graph page but by sliding that graph to the left to see the "Hours Slept" graph and then expand that. If you don't get actual hours displayed anywhere then I can see why you'd (and anyone) would want to quit fitbit altogether.

TheVinny

Actually it is a bar graph but as you scroll left (whether under weeks, months or years), it gives your your exact average NUMBER for whatever time period you're looking at.

Eastonworks
Jogger

@TheVinnyI can see the average numbers on those pages, but not the detail numbers. The average numbers are useless if you can't see the detail that they're based on. This has been my point all along . . . having the numbers scattered in different places isn't helpful. It just creates more frustration trying to figure out what each average is based on. Especially when you scroll back a few weeks and try to find patterns so you have some insight into what changes to make.

TheVinny
Strider

But like we both said, the average numbers never had any details, only the actual 'averages' themselves for whatever weeks/months/years someone wanted to look at along with a graph. So it doesn't make sense to me how those number were ever useful to you even with the old view. I do realize, however, that the old default sleep page view had the weekly average right along with the daily sleep info side by side. But even with that, we never saw details of monthly or yearly averages along with that specific daily data you're referring to. At least not that I can remember.

What I find most useful is:

1- How did I sleep last night (time-wise, not the foolish score). And my time still shows up, daily, even with the dumb sleep score next to it. So, so far, good enough.

2- How is my weekly average, overall, looking? That NOW can only be accessed by scrolling and opening, but only takes me two second now that I know where it is. So 1 and 2 are at least available to me, which means I at least keep my Fitbit for now and enjoy having data for over three years of time.

3- If 1 and 2 are in check then my monthly and year to date averages, while good to know what they are and even try to raise them, will usually be fine and are also accessed the very same way my weekly average is accessed.

While everyone's needs and wants vary, I don't personally have a great big deal-breaking problem not having today's sleep time right next to this week's sleep 'average' like we used to have. Like you, though, I would still prefer the average there as default view and see the new sleep 'score' removed altogether or made optional. But it seems like everything we need in regards to sleep data is still available, only with an extra scroll and click at a least for me, an iPhone XS user. And the only reason I even care about clarifying some of this is because many people may believe, like I used to, that the averages are no longer available at all. And I believe it was your first comment (or maybe someone else's) that appeared to say that averages no longer available, which in turn made me want to stop by and clarify that those numbers are all still there though not on one single page as in the past and I wanted to help show where to find them.

Take care.

@TheVinnyThe old view had the weekly averages with the daily detail. That's what I--and many others--valued in the old view. That's how they were useful to me. I know the weekly averages are still available, but they are buried and not shown with any daily detail. That's why people are so upset about this. Having the info scattered around may be ok for you, but it just doesn't work for me. I want to see the data together so I can collectively look for patterns. If you're going back and forth between views, you lose the ability to identify patterns in sleep trends and their relation to your weekly average. That's all. Until Fitbit brings this back, people are going to continue to be frustrated and look for better options in other brand's trackers. It's like the difference between driving an automatic vs. manual transmission. I can drive both, but I won't ever purchase a car with a manual transmission. And if I bought an automatic transmission and the car manufacturer snuck in during the middle of the night and swapped my automatic for a manual transmission, I'd tell them they need to give me my money back. That's how I feel about what Fibit has done. Yes, I know the data is still there and I can use it. But it's too cumbersome and it's not what I purchased.

I really hate the “sleep scores”. They’re an exercise in failure for me. I’ve set my sleep targets to something achievable, given my age, activity and lifestyle. I manage to hit my targets most nights and according to the benchmarks, I’m sleeping well. But the sleep scores are always in the 60s or low to mid 70s and “Fair”. It’s so depressing to wake up in the morning feeling like I slept well and then to get a kick in gut from Fitbit EVERY SINGLE DAY. Please give us a way to opt of these. They sure don’t help anything.

Your comments are dead on. It’s not quite a bait and switch operation but Fitbit did remove something we all thought we were purchasing.

This sleep score has only added an additional stressor to my life. I have no idea what it means, but having such a subjective value displayed so prominently adds additional anxiety to an already messed up life. I just want my sleep data only (Awake Time, REM Time, Deep Sleep Time, Light Sleep Time).
