Make sleep score optional

Suggested idea is to have the sleep score optional !

We should be able to choose if we have the score or not , I hate feeling like I failed my sleep!

They literally only need to include something like this to stop us complaining:

if (displaySleepScore)

{

    // use current code

} else {

    // use old code

}

That's it.  That is literally all we are waiting for.  Okay, sure, I guess they also need a toggle button for the "displaySleepScore" variable, but that's it.  This should not take months.  I literally just implemented it for you.

"I'm not an employee" and "my fellow workers" is a contradiction.

@SunsetRunner  this is the Feature Suggestions area and "make sleep score optional" is under consideration, not something that is being worked on to release. You're a visitor to these forums and might benefit from reading the Terms of Service regarding their use. click to read. We try to keep the threads on topic and not causing problems. Interesting choice of a persona for the forums.

@SunsetRunner, Can you state as a matter of fact that under consideration means nothing? Under consideration last time I checked means they are open to changing it or giving sleep score options. Here's an example: when I combined my two sleeps from last night and today, I ended up with 6 hours and 44 minutes. I was well rested. The sleep score gave me an incredibly stupid 49 score and yet I know anything over 6 hours is good for me. So why would Fitbit/Google not want to change that? I am just excited that I ended up with such a good sleep...do you think Fitbit wants us to be demoralized with a lame sleep score? And when I sleep 4-6 hours and get  a 78, how is that encouraging? It''s encouraging me to get less sleep not more sleep! So I come on  here and ignore the sleep score. wrong is wrong!

Thank goodness some of the biggest belly achers left! No we can have an interesting discussion!

It’s been very helpful to learn that I am not the only one who loathes the sleep score. It looks like I’m not the only one questioning my long-standing loyalty to Fitbit for the first time. I got excited this morning because I didn’t see a score but it turns out it was just a night where Fitbit couldn’t get a good read on my heart rate. 😂 Thank you to those who helpfully contribute. You’ve helped me feel better about the whole thing.

@Notafanofthesle  By deleting and reentering sleep times manually the score adjusted. I was able to change my sleep scores into the 80s which more accurately reflected my night's sleep. Their algorithms are seriously messed up. Just give us an on/off switch already!

@SunsetRunner  please stop the posts the posts that have nothing to do with the suggested feature. All you're doing is getting yourself upset and frustrating the forum members who are trying to discuss an issue that is important to them. Moderators really do try to keep these forums cleaned up and the focus on the topic. As for your name - Dean and Sammy Wincest? While I doubt it's real, considering it's all over the internet, it's never a good idea to give your real name on the internet. Surely your school stresses internet safety. Just so you know, these forums include people from all over the world and not just the United States. Oddly enough, North Korea doesn't make the list of the ten worst countries for child labor. Anyhow, @SunsetRunner  why not check out the ADHD forum for teens I suggested when you first got there. It might be less frustrating for you.

Why this Sleep score is not disabled yet? AtLeaST make it optional. No one is liking it. Why do you mess with a working system. It used be fine with sleep hrs. Sometimes change is not for good. You are attracting so much negativity and uoset customers. Listen and act fast before its too late and all customers are gone. Show some speed you dump people.

I truly HATE this sleep score. I don't want an algorithm, or anything/anyone grading my sleep. I signed up to the forums just to express how much this horrible feature is affecting me - and not in a good way. I have been with fitbit for a long, long time, and this is the first time I have been so dissatisfied that I felt it was necessary to come here and say something. PLEASE give the option to turn the sleep score off!

Why is sleep score even a thing? We don't like it and how can you tell how much sleep we get without actually tracking it without the watch?

Yeah, good luck with that. All I see after your post is more people (justifiably) complaining about the sleep score. What do you intend to have an "interesting discussion" about? The fact that Fitbit has given you zero indication that they are doing anything about this? Why don't you lead off that "interesting discussion"? Since, you know, the bad apples left and all.

The point of this group, as I understand it, is to state the case(s) for Fitbit making the sleep score optional (though removing it entirely would also make many of us happy! 😊). While it may be frustrating that we’re not seeing what we want, or seeing any sort of response at all from Fitbit, I have to wonder how realistic that expectation is, especially given that negotiations were clearly going on with Google for who knows how long. And now we wait for the transitioning - not a great circumstance for quick turn around on product change I’d think. Frustrating yes, but reality I’d bet.

In my view the case has been made by multiple folks here that the sleep “grade” has little to no value. Too many variables, several totally beyond my control (amount of REM and deep sleep) so it serves little purpose re: creating incentive to do better (as I write I think so why not creat a grading system for the other pieces that a Fitbit monitors? Just thinking about it highlights how ridiculous and artificial the whole grade thing is - at least in my mind). The whole point of Fitbit is to monitor elements of health so that I can do better - by deciding to do things differently. Too many things about sleep, other than when I go to bed, are totally beyond my control - so don’t give me a flipping grade on it. Just the data will suffice thank you!

For me, my Charge 2 is still very useful even though this silly grade appears every morning. I now know two ways to see the weekly average, which is sooooo MUCH more useful and is a metric I CAN control. And I’m able to just dismiss the grade or even be amused by it sometimes. I’m saddened when I read how this isn’t the case for others when the stupid grade only increases the daily challenge - who needs that after all!

Sometimes the drama gets a bit too ramped up here - imho - and I have to remind myself that this really isn’t a Facebook group. Let’s keep trying to drive home to the decision makers that the sleep grade is NOT enhancing their product and therefore should be an optional part of a users interface.

And if other devices give you what you want that’s great. I lust fierce an Apple Watch but as of yet don’t see it replacing what Fitbit provides - but I am paying close attention! As I am to privacy/advertising elements now that Google is running the show.

Anyway, my 2 cents ...

Google buys Fitbit for $2.1 billion

I would imagine this will put a lot of  upgrades on hold as fitbit is restructureed. Hopefully they will not lose track of the large number of people who would like this feature removed.

@sunsetrunner Actually yeah |I realize that people will continue to say the same thing we have been saying over the last several months since the upgrade. It is what it is. Unlike with other issues it is being considered. I would encourage ppl to email Fitbit directly as I have seen that most successful. You can reach them at https://contact.fitbit.com. I have seen pretty quick results there and we would be more likely able to see what kind of time frame it would happen. I can't afford to switch phones as I am in transition between jobs. Others have the luxury of paying for iWatch. I am happy for them. But my concern is the negativity that develops from this kind of a forum where it almost looks arrogant when others comment about finding another watch to track with. Just a concern and frustration,I would guess. Unfortunately we can't always tell the tone of how ppl are responding. And appparently even without using cap locks, ppl are responding not in the way that comments are construed. I think I will take a break from here. I get my results from emails. and I see how easy it is to be taken the wrong way here.

I second that comment, the Sleep Score is ridiculous, means nothing and is denying me instantaneous access to my data in deferral to some made up number.  Why are you purposely trying to make using MY data more difficult to read?  You're going the wrong way and your live chat was worse sending me to a page that was addressed as "Sleep Score" and never even talked about it, simply said how to sign up for Premium.

When did you become the company that used to care about my health and become the 'get rich quick' company?  Did you go public?  That usually ruins every company.  I want my sleep hours back and stop messing with what made you a success in the first place!

The feature Sleep Score is absolutely useless as an average tracking tool, please bring back total sleep time as the standard average for sleep.

Hi @Billku, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!

Yeah please remove this or make it optional. I stopped wearing my Fitbit to bed after this became a feature. But I started wearing it again for the hours slept. It is hard to ignore the sleep score and it makes me

feel bad.

OMG, did Fitbit update the app and make it even worse?

I don't remember seeing the comment under the meaningless "score" before.

Makes me think the developers are trying to punish us for not liking their "idea".

ITA with other posters that the sleep score is arbitrary and counter productive. Please get rid of it or allow users to turn it off. Would rather you bring back the average hours of sleep per week. That makes more sense.
