Medical ID Wristbands/ICE (In Case of Emergency)

It would be a great idea to add the medical alert logo to the flex band in case of a medical emergency. Older adults today are living longer, more active lives than the generations before them. The medical alert symbol and information can be incorporated into a stylish watch or a bangle-type bracelet, among many other options.

Medical IDs give paramedics and health care providers a quick look at your medical history in an emergency. They usually include information about medical conditions, food or drug allergies, medical devices (such as a pacemaker), and medications. This data can also be in sync with your Smartphone.

I am going to opt out of this continuous ignoring by Fitbit. Folks have been asking about this for at least 8 years. All kinds of yada, yada, yada but nothing real. I am going to look for a device that takes feedback from customers seriously.

Given Fitbit’s declining market share, it seems to me that this would be an opportunity for Fitbit to differentiate themselves – and perhaps even be categorized as a medical device, if they could do in partnership with MedicAlert, etc.

It would need to be thought through, but there are a lot of folks with chronic conditions that want to combine purposes between a Fitbit and Medical ID.

Their choice…

Since I am right handed, it just makes sense to have my medical alert bracelet and my Fit bit on the left wrist. But when it gets hot, or even when I wash my hands water gets even more trapped. Plus you add the cumbersome of having 2 closely fastened items to your arm, makes summers unbearable. If there really is nothing to be done about adding some kind of medical alert to the fit bit (I even tried having someone make a bracelet with medical alert portioned attached, no can do) I might have to stop wearing the Fit bit all together.

I am getting tired of Fit it not listening to pur suggestions.

@donnaschirle have you read the FAQ

Fitbit never promised every suggestion would be implemented.

Personally iIfeel Road ID has been making medical clips for tracker and has the process down.

Should Fitbit reinvent the wheel?

This had been denied several times in the past on the premise that Fitbit was not in the medical field and did not have the extra security that the government required .

I really don't like the Road ID ones everyone is talking about. All I want
is a band that fits my fitbit that the medic alert symbol and a QR code
that can be scanned to get information like that provided by My ID square
https://www.myidsquare.com/ how hard could this posibly be.

A new database will need to be designed

, with security that is HIPA compliant, way to print a QR code onto the band, having the code associated with an account, setting up a way for the user to enter their data into the account the band is associated with.

No it is not hard but will tequirera lot of background work to set it up .

With only a few hundred people that want this option, is it worth Fitbit's time?

It would be great to have a small "metal clip" on your Fitbit wrist band that describes personalized information. For example, a medical condition and contact information. It may save a life.

Did anything ever come of this? I went to Road ID, but am upgrading to an Aria and they do not make the badges for the Aria

@B-Pacemaker I'm not sireswhat type of badge that you want for your Aria scale. The scale is not designed to be carried with a user.

I have a Versa Fitbit, and was wondering if you had an "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) app for it, or could develop one. I feel it would be a really good thing to have available on your wrist.

Hi @RDJMCLEAN! I merged your idea with an existing one about the same topic. I am also glad to inform you that a third party developer has already crated an ICE app that can be found on the Fitbit app gallery.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi:
Here is a picture of what I had in mind. Other ICE messages can be inscribed.

It would also be awesome to have some kind of "life alert" button built in.  I am a young adult living alone and fell down the stairs.  I had a few minutes of panic thinking I would die in the basement and nobody would know.  I can't really justify getting a whole life alert system, but would totally upgrade a fitbit if it had this service.

It's a great idea, particularly for the senior community

I've been a FitBit user since 2014, and in the recent years have been told to wear a Medic Alert bracelet.

My concerns are no different than everyone here, and have been waiting for the wearable technology to catch up the needs of society before I give in and purchase one of those ugly single purpose bracelets.

If it is a 'vote' that FitBit needs, then mine is here. I am surprise nothing has come of this since the discussion and idea has been proposed since 2015.

The wearable tracker market is changing everyday, and if our voices aren't important to FitBit, then I am sure someone else is listening.

Fitbit had always responded with, Fitbit is not a medical device.

This time they did not.

It's a good idea for everyone because ID bracelets are great for any sort of person because at least in an Emergency. The Emergency services know your conditions and contact details. Also especiallly if you have any conditions such as: Diabeties Type 1 or 2 , Elipesy, allergies or a mixture etc. ..

Also, if you go on holiday a lot what if something was to happen whilst you were over their especially if you don't speak their main language. The only downside i can think off is you would have to take it off for Aiport Security because some Fitbits are made with metal unless they have a way of making non metal one but most Medical ID bracelets are metal so you would have to do this anyway.

I currently have Medical ID bracelet due to my diabeties and it's not metal it's Silocone, i choose this due to going on holiday soon.

FWIW, here is a method for getting a medic alert ID on your fitbit band.  http://www.id-technology.com.  The MediBand™ is a proprietary and unique emergency medical identification system that is worn and displayed on your watch - something you wear anyway. These durable, low profile special metal alloy accessories contain no known allergenic materials, are extremely lightweight and easily attach and fashion themselves to most types and styles of ordinary watchbands.

All -  Just to let you all know that there is an app available for download in the FitBit gallery for the Ionic and Versa called MED ID. It will hold up to 10 medications, 10 medical conditions, 5 "Other" and 2 emergency medical contacts.

Additionally, there is also a watch  face available called Stats with MED ID. It incorporates the MED ID into a watch face. You set high and low HR threshold and it will monitor your HR and alert you if it goes above or below. If you do not answer the message (in the event you are unconscious), it will show your MED ID screen and not shut off until you clear it.

It was recently nominated as on of the top 15 Fitbit apps to have when traveling.
