More countries in the food database

If you don't have the resources for doing this yourselves, at least define the countries, and let the community add the products and pictures. The Bar code scanner adds a quite easy way to add products and labels. If you now add a separate tile for community added products, we could easily input the values ourselves from the pictures. Then allow a few people to review the numbers and the food database should populate quickly. (Merging and deleting dupliates will need to be administrated).
To make this interesting add some badges for this and perhaps some free months of premium after some number of product additions/image translations/reviews.

yeah...

I've even added a topic: "Unable to add new barcodes" because the functionality seems to be there, just not fully implemented.

I agree! It would really make it much easier if there's a Swedish food database added. I feel it's just more work to go through a second application to add food and let's face it, food is a big part of this aswell.

Yes please! Add a Swedish food database and you'll keep a lot of swedes (and there's quite a lot using Fitbit here), and you'll keep us happy and loyal to your product. Advising us to reach out for second party applications is just like saying "it ain't gonna happen"....

This is very good idea, especially now, because MSN Health & Fitness App discontinuation was announced.

This feature could bring to FitBit a lot of new users. MSN have got a very good database with food availabe on polish market. Now all polish users are without any replacement. Therefore only database is needed and some ads at local sites/blogs/forums. FitBit would perfectly fit the market and take the cake with no costs.

Hi,

I would like this as well.  Actually, when I scanned an unrecognized barcode today it just told me "Don't know it, take 3 pics".  I do that, and then there's no option at all to enter my food!  I have to go through a second set of searches to add it by text.

I'd like to be able to do one of two things:

1. Search for the item by name once the barcode is unrecognized, (you need to type in the name to enter a custom food anyway).  If you find a suitable option, then link the two locally.  If you don't find it:

2. Enter the name and nurtion information manually.  If the search functionality I mention in #1 doesn't find your food, you need this.  If the search feature is too cumbersome (I don't think so), then it could go directly to this step.  Again, as the original poster suggested, the data could be saved as local food of mine.

Ultimately, I want to be able to quickly scan a food and move on, particularly at breakfast time.  Having to take 3 pictures the first time is ok, but having to remember whether I did and typing in the search every time isn't convenient.

If consulting an external API is against your philosophy, it is possible (and legal, under conditions of attribution and data integrity) to download the entire database for offline use. Please, guys, this is a really easy way for you to add value to your product at virtually no extra cost.

@TrueLove09 I totally like the idea of adding a Swedish food database to the dashboard. I know there are several users in Sweden that will benefit from this feature. We know that there are different kinds of food in every country and I totally agree of having this implemented as Fitbit is a worldwide company with users all around the world. It will be also interesting for others to see the Swedish food database to learn what they eat in Sweden. Keep voting Sweden and world! Hope to see this implemented in the nearest future.

I keep scanning barcodes that Fitbit can't match and taking product photos with no evidence that Fitbit staff have added any of these products to the database.  I'm investing effort into entering data that so far seems to have yielded me no returns.

How about meeting me halfway, Fitbit: if the app can't find a barcode, I take the photos of the front of the package, nutrition facts and ingredients, then the app gives me an "+ add custom food" prompt, then I enter the food info for that barcode, then that barcode becomes a custom food that my app can recognize?

Try using Myfitnesspal to add your food. Both apps sync with each other and Myfitnesspal has a much bigger database for barcode scanning.

It's great to see this request! This can help a lot with food that is not in the data base or when you are traveling abroad to log new food. I can see how we all can take an advantage from this.

Thanks for sharing your idea!

Hello and good evening dear Fitbit office/developers/engineers!

I could not miss the ongoing discussion about the Swedish food database. I´m really interested hearing about some update from you Fitbit creators! Is there by any chance that you're right now developing a swedish food database or maybe starting a cooperation with some other developers that has this feature in their app. I'm really interested about hearing some news about this. Maybe it's not just me but thousands other what could be heavy-duty users of your app.

I'm quite a heavy user of the Fitbit and I really looking forward to a swedish fooddatabase. Sure you can develop meal by your own, but the first second your about to eat something of the menu. You can´t really simply scan the barcode of the product! Which really annoys me! Or you could use an other app such as Lifesum which has the database that I want. But for keepin it simple and keep all the data in one single app!

Please.. please Fitbit! can you please make a swedish fooddatabase so that me myself and probably thousands of other users can become loyal users of your app!

Thanks for visiting the Feature Request board! Great idea. I believe creating Food Database for every country can definitely help users to log their food and keep track of what they are eating.

Hope this can be an idea in the future.

Hello! I have been using Fitbit Flex for about a year and something I really long for is the Swedish food database. I am trying to log my food, but it is quite annoying that I can never find exactly what I'm looking for and I need to add it in manually. I tend to just take the closest item on the list, but then I miss the whole purpose with logging food, because the calories and other ingredients don't match what I'm actually eating. I feel like databases from different countries should be the priority in your updates. Sure I can use another app and link it with this one, but when I spend money on a product I expect that it would have all the necessary features. I love everything else about Fitbit app and I love my tracker, but this is such a huge drawback. I would definitely not consider investing more money into your trackers or premium account until this gets fixed.

yeah would be absolutely great if you could develop a swedish fooddatabase as soon as possible! Smiley Happy

or maybe can talk to the developers to my fitnesspal and made some sort of deal so the food databases from all around the world CAN be stationary in the fitbit but still work on their extern App.

There should be a way for users to create food databases for their own countries. Otherwise a user will simply select one of the other databases available and start adding their own food into it. Eventually this would render individual countries' databases useless.

The UK barcode database is far too limited. To be able to add a barcode to the database would be good. I would also love the option to link a barcode to custom foods.

Hi! It's been several years now since the Swedish food database idea was first mentioned and acknowleged by the Fitbit team. The Fitbit community in Sweden is growing rapidly, are we being heard at all or is there no progress whatsoever on this project...?
