Today I received an advertising email from Fitbit with the title "If you like your Ionic you'll love this" exhorting me to upgrade to a Sense.

Well, actually, Fitbit, by removing the capability of storing my music on the Sense, I have no intention of upgrading to a Sense whatsoever. When my Ionic dies, I'll be switching to another brand that allows me to store my music on the device, just like the Ionic does.

And, I just wonder, now that Fitbit has been bought by Google, whether Fitbit will drop their own operating system and adopt Android Wear for their devices? Perhaps that is why there has been no movement on adding the music function back into the new generation of Fitbit devices.

I see that even Samsung has announced that they are dropping Tizen and moving to Android Wear. I'm not convinced that this is a good thing. I was considering a Galaxy Active 3 as my next device. Probably not any more.

Wow guess I'm not buying this yet. Offline spotify would be an improvement. Detaching your phone for GPS then requiring tethering for spotify is little short of a disgrace.

I would love to purchase the Sense but now I am not going to until my Ionic totally dies, and even then I may look for another brand.  I need music on my watch so I don't need to bring my phone when I run.  I was shocked when I researched it and found out - why go backwards?

We really need to have the option of adding personal music to the Fitbit Versa 3.

I'm actually sorry I purchased the Versa 3. I can't believe that you have to buy a premium subscription to deezer or pandora to play music, especially when I have lots of my own music that I could download to the device. This shouldn't be a request item it should be standard.

Very disappointed in the fitbit sense as I want to add my own music cd/ mp3 to my watch and will not pay for another company to have music. Please make it so we can add our own CD/ MP3 to the watch as we already paid for the CD / bands we love not doing it a second time.

I would certainly use the audio alarm, any chance of an hourly beep? I would also like to put my own music on my Sense, not have to buy a premium service account.

Thanks

Please let us add our own music for offline use, I don't want to have to pay for a membership. I have a Sense and this is being a big downgrade.

Like others on this thread, I've decided to return my Versa 3 for another smartwatch brand, and go figure, this one actually allows you to store your own music...boy that's a novel idea.  😜

Hi guys, I'm joining the GET THE own MUSIC BACK to Fitbit club.

I was about to upgrade My loved Versa 1 to Sense, but when I heard about this downgrade I was shocked.

I wonder how many order calcellations, how much time Fitbit needs to realize and fix the mistake they made.

Built in GPS, nice, it was about time, I don't need to take my big and heavy phone for the run.

Oh boy... yes you do, unless you want your own music for free.

It's a one step forward for GPS, one step backward for music for much more of your money. And they call it development.

So sad as this could have been a great competitor to Apple watch.

I'm not an Apple fan I don't have any apple device yet, but if this is the only way to have my own music, I buy an Apple phone and an Apple watch instead.

I just returned to this thread after many months and see that Fitbit is not respecting their customers.

What the Moderator is writing is completely fake:

" We rely on feedback like yours to help us develop products and features that we know our community wants to see. If this suggestion receives votes from other customers and gains popularity, it will be shared internally with various teams at Fitbit."

Actually this is a function which existed in previous product so who is talking about development?

It was removed from the new products based on what? (It was definitely not a customer request as I see.)

I keep my Versa 2 and forget this brand forever.

In what universe is this an upgrade? I was so excited to leave my bulky phone at home for runs and come to find out I have to take it with me anyways to play music?? Absolutely insane decision by Fitbit, will probably return for a Garmin if they don't come to their senses

I am using my Ionic from last 3 years. It has all the features Versa 3 has and was looking to replace it with Versa 3/Sense.

But the limitation of not having to store my music on watch is a very poor move by FitBit.

Now I am confused if I keep on going with Ionic or move to other brands.

Include this for the Versa 3 as well. One of the reasons I picked this tracker instead of the Versa 2 was the ability to store my music. I already have music on iTunes, I don't want a Pandora / Spotify / Deezer account as well.

@Fitbit can you please actually respond to this tread? The last update was ages ago and you apparently listen to your customers so please or bring the storage back, add Spotify storage or fix the bug with Deezer. Nothing works!!!!! In UK, basically you can't use the watch worth about £200 without your phone next to it, that's insine. I really want to return my watch but I can't because it's not from fitbit official website... so disappointing.

I got a similar answer from Fitbit on Twitter, and I agree; I was able to
store hundreds of songs on the internal storage of my Sense using Deezer,
so it absolutely is not a storage space issue. I have no idea why Fitbit
would:

1. Strip features from its more recent and costly products.

and then:

2. Communicate obviously dishonest messages to its loyal customers about
why this was done.

I'm done with Fitbit products for good.

Please allow us to store music offline.

This watch is called smart watch but does not have the basic ability of all the smart watches. I have to take my phone as well as watch when going for a run.

And another yearly membership does not make sense for a 400 $ device!!!!!!!!!!

I pre-ordered Versa 3 assuming I got the same features Fitbit was talking about, local music storage. I only bought this Watch for phone-free running!

really disappointing! and now that I have to switch from Spotify to Deezer, just for offline music, I have the same problem as others: Deezer not syncing with Versa 3! I guess I have to wait for a while until it gets fixed.

I've just received my 'new' Versa 3 Fitbit as a replacement for my Versa 2 Special Edition that had a malfunction in the light sensor. As this model was no longer available, I was offered a Versa 3 at a reduced price. Little did I realize that the Versa 3 had reduced functionality......I could no longer download my own personal music. This feature (or lack thereof) is definitely a retrograde step when introducing a new model. I'll be vigorously  requesting a refund as the product is not fit for purpose. For Fitbit to even consider that their customers are compelled to subscribe to a streaming service as a an alternative to their own choice is reprehensible. Shame, Fitbit!!

Why do you not allow music downloads to Fitbit sense device without a Deezer premium subscription of £9.99? This is a terrible scheme to make money from 3rd parties rather than providing the advertised service to the customer. Having paid for Fitbit premium this becomes a ridiculous ongoing tax

Music is by far one of the most important features. The number of requests for this (apart from the closed Spotify one) far outweigh any other requests.

Having to carry around a phone with my versa 2 in order to use GPS was a real pain. Now I have the Sense and have to carry the phone around for music.

What makes me laugh is that this is a 'Feature Request', this was a capability removed after Versa 2. Why would Fitbit remove a fundamental feature? Its not like they don't know the Music app was probably the most used app.

Have Fitbit ever provided a valid reason for its removal?

The only logical reason I can think of is that Fitbit made a commercial decision not to provide the music app, forcing their customers to use a subscription app.

I guess that just shows how much FitBit care for their customer base

@Burano I suspect that you are correct that FitBit made the decision to get extra money by forcing users to buy a subscription. Apple takes something like 30% of all in-app purchases, so you wonder if FitBit is also getting some percentage of those music service subscriptions. I also wonder if it has something to do with Google (which now owns FitBit) doing away with Google Play Music late last year. Google's unofficial motto used to be "Don't Be Evil." I guess that is now truly gone!

Hi @Meoldson, thanks for feedback and for sharing this suggestion about being able to store music on the Sense with us. This idea was already requested in the Feature Suggestions board, so I’ve moved your post here. Music storage on Versa 3, please add this feature considering that it also hass built-in gps.

It would be perfect to go out without a phone

Sad day.  Ordered the Sense this afternoon from Best Buy.  Needed it for oxygen levels, but it is kind of junky.  Also, the music issue.  It's on my phone already so I don't see the need for a watch with that.  So the Blood oxygen sensor is a waste, the  music stuff is a waste, and having to use the paid app to get the info for health, I'm not even going to open it.  Trip to Best Buy.
