Many countries favour using Kilojoules instead of calouries for enrgy input and output. Please add the option to choose in all relevent dashboard areas.

It would be nice (a strange concept for Yanks) to include the number of votes for this option at the top of the "Forum". and then ACT on it.
Not only are there thousands of votes they go back years.
I absolutely love the IOS app, it's excellent and does all I would want it to do. But because a significant amount of countries use kilojoules instead of calories, it would be helpful to have that option.
I suspect they think the problem is solved because there is a(n unpublicised) workaround by joining Loseit!, which has kilojoules, shares data with Fitbit app and is free.
Also most people who use Fitbit are already incredibly fit and don't need to monitor their food intake accurately. So the monitoring is mainly for fat people, i.e. losers - hence low priority.
Another Kiwi adding my voice to the request for a KJ option. Has anyone had a good reason from the development team as to why this seems to be so difficult?
'Hey there friends! I'm sorry that this option is not available yet. I agree with your, this is not hard to implement and it would be very useful. So please make sure to give your votes on the Feature Request, this increases the chances of the idea to be implemented in the future. You can also share it with other Fitbit friends and ask them to vote!
There are multiple threads voting for this feature. Fitbit:
I loved and recommended your product.
The response (none) and lack of this feature has meant I have gone from an advocate to a detractor. Your users all around the world have been voicing their abhorrance at the way this issue has been dealt with, they have also requested, asked and begged that you make this very obvious change.
To not make the change has people like myself go from liking and recommending the fitbit brand to speaking ill of it and talking friends out of buying one. It also reinforces a fairly global sentiment the people in the US are deluded and think they are the only important nation out there. In terms of not being metric it is indeed the US that is backward.
Please someone explain why this change has not been made? Is it difficult? Are there significant technical difficulties? Also please consolidate all the various threads on the matter so an accurate count (and summary of the brand hate this issue is generating) can be grasped by the Fitbit brass.
My Fitbit Charge HR has sat in a cupboard for over 6 months as cant be bothered using it anymore due to Fitbit not giving a rats about everyone recommending this feature be added. Might get the new Apple watch instead now.
only has 391 votes so far which is not alot when you are asking for a change! Yes the change should be easy and straight forward but 391 votes is not going to convince them.
@MatthewFitbit as the other thread for this discussion has been locked I am asking you on the correct thread here.... There is clearly a need for KJ in fitbit and not just calories and the discussion on this page has been gaining momentum over the last months but no one from fitbit has responded for a year and half. It would be good to know if fitbit is considering this change. It seems so backward that most other fitness apps and programs have KJ but fitbit doesn't. If I had known this I certainly wouldn't have purchased one as my country uses KJ and not calories.
Hi all, sorry really bunny post here: there's no actual Vote buttons available on this thread, right? I can't see any... so AmandaSeadragonby votes, do you mean comments?
On the discussion boards/help forums I can see there are vote buttons, but not over here? How do I vote? Thanks.
Please please please add a kj instead of calories. We could help increase the food list database a lot quicker if we didn't have to convert it. My fitness pal does has the option. My next fitness device may be Samsung because it's easier than converting all my foods everyday.
Crazy that this issue has been ongoing for so long! And why can distances be tracked in metric and not the food and exercise?!? Like many others I've seen in the pages of comments, I'm using MyFitnessPal to track my food and exercise as it allows tracking in kilojoules. Yes the summary data does sync in to the Fitbit app but would be so much more meaningful to have the data on your dashboard in kilojoules rather than calories and so much easier to use.
After FOUR YEARS, MatthewFitbit, a moderator here, has answered me on this.
"In regards to that Feature Suggestion - we haven't announced any specifics about when or whether this might be added. I understand that you'd like something more than that, but there simply isn't anything else to say on the matter right now. The good news is that the interest has definitely been heard by our team, and could be added in the future if it lines up with our development path."
"if it lines up with our development path" ... man, it's clear that devs are not involved in the feature suggestion review process in any way at all. Even with "so few" people requesting this feature (how many just silently give up on the product?), the ease of the fix means that the benefits should FAR outweigh the cost.
Plus, I'd say this is not a feature request, but a bug report. The app should never have been released without kJ to begin with.
Fitbit, I'm definitely buying from another company next time.
["it's clear that devs are not involved in the feature suggestion review process"]
of course not. It would be a management decision based on the cost of the dev's time to implement it, vs the benefit to them. Not just a few lines of code, but the whole testing process too. Obviously they're on a tight budget and we're not worth it.
My suspicion is that they've done the code in such a way that it's not a trivial thing to do. It should be just a simple conversion at the point of input and/or output, but who knows. So our only hope is if it can be fitted in for minimal effort in some future development. Don't hold your breath.
