Many countries favour using Kilojoules instead of calouries for enrgy input and output. Please add the option to choose in all relevent dashboard areas.
I can't believe that Kilojoules are not an option. Bitterly disappointed that I hadn't researched this before making a purchase. I will NEVER purchase another Fitbit product unless this glaring omission is corrected. Posts have been flying around this topic for over 2 years. Stop providing lip service and fix this.

Lip service…….the company does not know what this means. They are just hopeless in this regard!
This is the only thing stopping me from buying a Surge and I know a few other people that feel the same way. Come on, Fitbit. It's a simple program tweak that won't cost you anything and will gain you at least a few more sales of Surges. You won't lose anything by doing it and will definitely gain some new users. This request has been in the system for over a year with no progress. Stop dragging your feet, please!
Please add this basic feature. It is puzzling why it isn't in place. I can only assume that poor initial software design has made it difficult, and this has prevented such simple functionality from being added. Cheers
I agree with all the above. I am a Brit who USED to use calories but now I live in South Africa its 100% metric here. Kj's are so much easier to use. I am missing Lifesum.com as that app was very cool. Surely Fitbit.com would have fixed this by now???? It is a big let down and I am considering returning my device on this basis.
Thanks! Voted up. We use KJ in New Zealand and I've to use a converter application on my phone before entering the nutritonal information in to FitBit.
I think having KJ as a unit brings us one step closer to having better support for countries with very little selection under the barcode search. I enter everything manually or use 3rd party applications for information look up. Alternatively I've to convert it myself.
Mindboggling that this isn't a feature. Imagine taking a product to USA with only metric options. Ridiculous!!!! Just staggering that this isn't a standard option!! Definitely won't be buying a Fitbit when I upgrade
Just bought a Fitbit Charge tonight and I'm furious that I'm stuck with a unit, sold in Australia, that does not list food in kilojoules. No wonder it isn't listed on the packaging (or anywhere) as your Australian customers would be overlooking every model again and again.
Kilojoules are the OFFICIAL unit of measurement in this country with legislation covering every food item sold in chain restaurants and in stores and it is shortsighted and downright rude that we have to convert every food item to an American unit of measurement.
Considering how many thousands of units they've sold in Australia, and no doubt plan to sell more, the lack of respect Fitbit is treating it's Aussie customers with is staggering.
Yes, all our products in Australia and all of Europe are in KILOJOULES, so all our food packaging shows kilojoules. So that is a BIG part of the world and potential market for millions of people. Other products do have kilojoules. So you are losing a massive market and profit potential.
So I have to calculate continuously back to calories to see how I am traveling. I love my fitbit, and it is working wonders to help me concentrate on increasing excercise and decreasing food intake. But this calculating back and forth makes it miss being the PERFECT product. Which is could be if I could get kilojoules. Can you do a “software” or microcode “patch”?
The profile settings allows users to set height, weight and distance settings in metric, but there's not option to select calories or kilojoules. Can a metric option for the food dashboard be made available? Thanks.
I just assumed that a product such as this would have measurements in kilojoules. I was very surprised when it came to ticking the chosen units section that there was no Kilojoules box.
I have the HR tracker and an ARIA. They are great products but I would it hard to recommend them to people who are serious about keeping track of energy-in vs energy-out without a Kilojoules input/display.
In Australia, and most of the world, our foods energy content is measured in Kilojoules. Fitbit without having to use a calculator please.
I'd really like the option to use kilojoules in the app and not just calories. In my country, Australia, we don't really use calories as a measurement on products any more so it would make it so much easier if there was an option in the app to change it. I'm sure its not just Australia that has this problem either.
Another upvote from me. Another Australian frustrated by the US centric nature of the Fitbit software. The vast majority of us live in a metric world, and as a number of people have pointed out, MFP and other apps have no problem with this.
I currently get around the problem by entering my food into MFP in kj. It's converted to kcal when it goes over to Fitbit (so there MUST be a calculation somewhere in the system!), but at least I can enter energy in metric units!
Lost my fitbit unfortunately, but the positive is I get to swap brands to a European kilojoule-embracing one. This company has a funny attitude to their Australian market - it seems we're big enough to market to, but not big enough to provide proper product.
Why does this product not support Kilojoules? If you are going to sell a product in a country that uses metric units then you should modify your product respectively or advertise this on the packaging so consumers are aware that the device only supports Imperial Units. There are very few countries still struggling to move away from using this antiquated form of measurement.
Maybe they don't know how to work out how to do the conversion.
Here is a clue to get them started. Calories = KiloJoules / 4.18679999 KiloJoules = Calories * 4.18679999
As I work in IT, I can even give them a clue as to how to program it DisplayValue = calories
If UserPreferences.units = metric Then DisplayValue = calories * 4.18679999 End if
Now they should be right to go!
Hopefully everyone can understand why they are unable to do it straight away. Obviously the calculation is far too complicated to just incorporate it into their systems. But we can only hope (and continue nagging).
I wonder if they are even listening? Hello FitBit - are you out there? Are you listening? Or don't you care about your customers?
Was very excited to finally get my fitbit today.... but GUTTED to find out it only uses calories! I am in New Zealand & we all use kilojoules here! Why on earth can't a worldwide sold product do both? I have use My Fitness Pal for 3 years now & was really stoked about being able to sych the two together but gutted this isn't going to work properly. I see you use cms & kgs for height & weight but why not kilojoules???? PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS???? Thank you
Kilojoules? Metric everything else but no kilojoules? You posted in 2013 that you're working on it. Science=metric. Thinking of returning and getting something a little more 21st century unless there's a firm release date for an update..
