Pregnancy setting/mode for more accurate data

Necessary:

Logging a pregnancy is a must, as is the ammenorheic period due to breastfeeding.  These drastically affect predictions making the app useless for many.  Eg. I have entered my data since 2011.  My periods are like clock work occurring every 27 days... but I have had 4 pregnancies in that time so the app is telling me that my peiods average every 104 days.

Useful:

Option to add basal body temp and ovulation data (eg. predictor strip).

I would love to see a pregnancy mode on Fitbit. Specificly heart rate adjusted to the cardio fitness score to that of a pregnant woman. I know our heart rates tend to be higher. It's frustrating that despite being much more active now than I was prior to being pregnant went from fair, almost average to poor. Fitbit tracks menstral cycles but no pregnancy mode. It's disheartening to work hard on improving your fitness levels while pregnant only to have fitbit tell you that you're out of shape.

I'd like to see this feature as well

I agree wholeheartedly!

Yes please!! I have a newborn and same thing, and breastfeedIng is one of my main “activities”. Would definitely help to have calorie output accurate. 🙂

I agree as well, and I would also really love to see a feature for breastfeeding moms. Calorie intake and exercise needs are different during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I agree with Ikawai and the breastfeeding, and pregnancy, nutritional needs being different; I'm just not sure how they would go about adjusting that. I suppose in the weight management section where it asks about the rate of weight loss three could be a toggle switch for pregnant and for breastfeeding. My nutrition class taught that it was only about 500 calories more than pre-pregnancy, whereas many people think it's much more.

I may not have nor want a kid...yet but when I'd do I'd like to make sure I'm still as fit as I can be. Instead of having to be put down for not meeting their standards. Along with the fact pregnant women have limits depending on the person. So I strongly agree they need this feature.

There is an entire community for pregnant Fitbit users- we should be able to track it in our apps as well!

Consider tracking fetal growth or syncing to an app that does, as well as adjusting caloric intake based on trimester etc.

Likewise a breastfeeding option should be added for after birth for Fitbit moms who choose to breastfeed and still need more calories.

We are starting to feel like this request has been abandoned by Fitbit.  Can we get a flare or sign of life from a moderator with an update on the rollout plan for our request?  Just look at how large of a pregnancy community you already have, plus the future millenial moms, plus the moms who didn’t even access the community or the forum, but are likely wishing for the same!  Update please??

I second a request on an update... starting to feel like half the population doesn’t actually matter to Fitbit and that comprehensive female tracking was just a carrot on the end of a stick to get us all to buy the latest tracker.

Does anyone have a contact email for the mods/admins/tech team that we could contact them directly? It seems like they don’t even read the forums that have feature suggestions anymore.

I used the contact us through the website and live chatted with an
employee, all they did was direct me to this forum to add my suggestion.

That’s outrageous!

Dear Moderator,

In the case that you read this and present it to your IT team, I would like to make sure you understand one of the specific needs being requested in this thread.

When a woman becomes pregnant and hCG levels begin to rise, her metabolism EXPLODES. This is not significantly due to a growing teeny tiny baby; it is due to the fact that every cell in her body is now tasked to transcribe for new hormones, turn production of others off, etc. which requires a crazy amount of ATP formation.  If her starting body fat % was under 20, she will require ingesting roughly 150-175% of her “Fitbit caculated” intake to match her ACTUAL expenditure!  For example, I am in a high risk pregnancy and cannot exercise as I did prior.  My caloric burn is measured as 1700/d by Fitbit.  However, I needed to ingest 2500-2800 calories to maintain my weight for the next day!  Now a person with ideal bf% of 20-24% would not require as high a multiplier, but definitely one above 125%.  A multiplier would still exist above that bf% as well, especially since this metabolic surge lasts for the first 10-12 weeks. That’s 2-3 months!! Thereafter, although the transcripting has slowed, we are now feeding a rapidly growing baby with our ingested nutrients.  This could, for example, require a multiplier of about 1.1 (110%).

Point is, don’t dismiss this.  Please get your medical consult on this, as well as consult from at least 3 currently/recently pregnant mothers of varying starting bf% and activity level, in order to offer suitable multiplier choices for moms to select to better plan and monitor their caloric intake.  You don’t have to make recommendations of which multiplier a mother should choose during whichever phase/trimester (clearly there are legal hurdles there), but you should easily be able to offer multiplier choices for moms to select and test (of their own free will) for a couple days to see which ones match their current metabolic burn.  The historical data will be invaluable to her and her OBGYN.

Thank you!

It would be nice to be able to add that I'm breastfeeding so my calories burnt can reflect the extra I'm burning due to it. It makes it harder to track calories and make sure I'm eating enough for milk production when I always have to go over my recommended intake to account for breastfeeding.

Hi @LJH91, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. This feature suggestion already exists so I've moved your post here as it is not currently planned.

I would love to see a pregnancy option in the health tracker and is there any pregnancy app compatible with fitbit?

EwaK

I have to add breastfeeding as a custom exercise to account for the calories I am expending. This means it counts towards my exercise goal, which I don't want.  I want to be able to add the volume of breastmilk I produce daily and have it convert to calories and add to my calories used total, without it being an exercise.

It would be nice if you had a pregnancy setting the the female health section on Fitbit and then on the display (of the versa dashboard) have it say how many weeks and days along you are vs what day of the cycle you're on.

I second this! I use my Fitbit to track sleep, but my resting heart rate when I was pregnant was so high (95) that it would not even recognize I was asleep sometimes. It would also categorize walking to the bathroom at night (which I did a lot) as cardio because my heart rate would go up into that zone sometimes. My doctor said this was well within the normal range for pregnancy. Because heart rate is used for so many aspects of the Fitbit app, it made the app nearly useless when I was pregnant. I think having adjusted zones for pregnant women would really be helpful.

Notice you put on the fitbit app about about female health etc. But there's no option or fitness option that includes pregnancy. Any chance on the next update to include it please. Love the fitbit but at the moment seems a bit useless because of my pregnancy. Thank you

Without reading through all of the previous comments, came to say that a missed period or pregnancy option definitely needs to be included.  I had just started using this feature to track my period, and did use to see my ovulation window as I reeeeeeaaalllly wanted a spring baby.  I was lucky enough that it seems like it worked.  I might not have known I was pregnant until I noticed fit bit told me was time for my Period. But, since I haven’t logged new period, the app keeps updating my current period and previous ovulation window  and I am pretty frustrated...

I would also like the future option of recording other symptoms.  And later, if other features are added, like breastfeeding tracking, etc. may have additional feedback.

Enter and track pregnancy and pregnancy related symptoms in the women's health tracker. Also track extra calories burned through nursing and maybe even track symptoms and nursing sessions.

I don't understand why we have to ask for that feature. It is a huge part of being a woman; being able to bare children. And as you know, the calorie calculation, heart rate and water intake changes. I'm fairly certain more women use the Fitbit than men, just from looking around in my own little world.
