Replaceable Battery

In Future products I'd like you to make it possible to replace the built in battery with a new one when it no longer holds a charge.  This is my main gripe when it comes to fitbit devices. While I've not had any of my devices batteries fail as yet, I'd like to be able to replace them when they do.

The Ionic should have had a replaceable battery (and don't try saying it would ruin the water resistance ability, I can drop my phone in 50 meters of water and still replace the battery myself and I've had dive watches that can go to 200m and still replace the battery)

Even if people have to send the device in to have the battery replaced, it would be preferable than having to buy an entire new device.  So please for future devices please consider adding the ability to have the battery replaced even if only by authorized service technicians.

Who does not have ethics??? The posters who are unhappy with the product, or the manufacturer who makes a planned obsolescent product? I fully do not understand your ranting post.

You sir, have a real problem. Perhaps not being able to read and  understand. I said nothing about you. I just pointed out that your rant against all the others who AGREE with you about the non-replaceable battery was weird.  Ethics? Not at Fitbit, but certainly with the other posters.

I found this thread while looking to see if a replacement battery was available for my Fitbit Alta II. I've enjoyed having it, but I, too, share the concern that I don't want to contribute to environmental waste by tossing a Fitbit every couple of years. I'm looking for other options.

I had not thought of the environmental aspect. Thanks for mentioning it. I totally agree.

Hi everyone, and thanks so much for sharing this suggestion! Whilst we don’t currently have plans to release this feature due to safety concerns, sustained water-resistance and the technical challenge it poses to customers, we are however working on improving our take back and recycle value chain; ensuring used our devices are recycled for reuse and re-manufacturing to reduce our consumption on raw and virgin materials.

I would love a battery replacement program! I had a Blaze before that I loved but the battery died under a year and half after I got it. At that time I couldn't believe that there was no battery replacement program like Apple had. So when it was time to get a new watch I almost went with Apple. But I do love the FitBit app and community so decided to try it one more time (hopefully there will be a battery replacement program by the time my battery dies again?). So I have the Versa now and I love it but if I run into the same issue again my next watch will be an Apple Watch bc I don't want another dead electronic that I can't do anything with (can't trade it in, can't replace the battery) and I'll be expected to shell out $200 for a new watch. Not very environmentally sustainable and it's very inconsiderate of people's finances (I know FitBit is a company but would they rather have my business over the long run or for a short amount of time?). I'm hoping by the time this watch battery dies there will be a battery replacement program.

I want a ability to change the battery when battery has any issues when warranty is over. I don’t want to buy new a product and throw out my current device. Look at old watch models when ever battery dies u get new battery it will continue to work. We want such type technology

I view my Fitbit as I view my watches. All of them are either manually windable or have a replaceable battery. Updates are fine - but basic functions like those in a watch suffice. I do not look forward to having to replace my trusty Fitbit.

Please - if the watch industry can create watches, Samsung and Apple with replaceable batteries - so should Fitbit.

Give us consumers the "choice"!!!

You need to improve your battery life and your method of replacement.

For the third time I have had a Fitbit die.

The first time was my Fitbit 2.  Under warranty you replaced my battery but I was without a Fitbit while waiting for mailing/switching process.

The second time was my Fitbit 3. Same story.  Now that replacement battery is dead and I am told that it is not under its own warranty but the warranty of the original device.  Makes no sense!

I have ordered a Fitbit 4 which will not be sent until over a month from now (it is May 3 and they ship sometime in June).  Your support suggested I buy another Fitbit at a generous 15% discount...why would I want to buy another one when I have one on order.  But now I am without a Fitbit for a month or more...just when I am ramping up hiking season.

Frustrated is an understatement.  I do think I may look for another brand and, if I find a more promising one, cancel my Fitbit 4 order since you offer me no other solution.

Batteries in Fitbit's should be replaceable or they should be warrantied for longer than 1 year!

I’ve lost track of how many fitbits I have got under warranty because the battery dies, it’s at least 4. Please consider designing Fitbit’s with replaceable batteries

We all know that batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. It's possible to replace the battery in a phone, in a laptop; even in an electric car but as my Fitbit ages I have to charge the battery two, sometimes three times a day. Why can’t I have the battery replaced? Why should I need to buy a new Fitbit every few years?

My last two fitbit charge 5s have had the battery performance tank and ultimately die around the 1 year mark. I cannot justify continuing to buy these electronic devices with such a short life with the associated environment impacts and no way to get the battery replaced. Pity because otherwise I was very happy with the fitbit.

It's frustrating that when the battery life deteriorates shortly after 2 years, Fitbit doesn't offer battery replacement service. Even if it's outside of the warranty period, I wouldn't mind paying a small fee for the replacement, rather than buying a new device and producing waste having to dispose the old one.
