Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

What would be the best alternative to use when we row ... Indoors or out? Elliptical?

I just choose “exercise” and then “work out” this seems to give the most active minutes and some steps.

It would be nice if we had a watch short cut for a rowing machine. Or if it's not possible a way to manually log in a rowing machine work out.

Yes!!!!  Please add an exercise shortcut for Rowing Machine.  I've been using "workout" when on my Concept 2 but would rather log as rowing...

That’s exactly what I use at the gym when I am on their concept2. Workout.

Using "workout" captures the activity along with heart rate.  However, it also counts steps and who knows if the calories count is even close to accurate. This is a screen shot of my activity which was recorded as "workout" but edited to "rowing machine" in my dashboard. Rowing.JPG

Well, for what it is worth, I have just spent over an Hour on customer support at Fitbit, talking to ‘Monica’ who has assured me that she will raise the ‘Rowing’ request with ‘The Team’ at FitBit.  Let’s hope she is a very persuasive person !  I did mention that we have asking asking for this for over two years, and that several hundred people have contributed to this forum requesting support for Rowing on FitBit

Row Twice a week. Little Toni steps for rowing. Read many requests for this situation to be corrected. Must be automatic for me always doing challenges with friends. Very sad  I may have to change my thinking on this product. Looks like this problem may never be fixed.

Is this going to be added?  I just bought a Concept II and it is a fantastic work out.

Please add as a option.  How can golf be in there and not rowing?

Please add auto-recognize and exercise shortcut of stationary rowing as well as (actual) rowing/crew. Rowing is one of my go-to exercises. Thanks!

I would love more workout options IE Rowing, cardio circut etcetera. Also some better challenges maybe were you can challenge your friends to calories burned or percentage of heart rate over time not just step count.

I would definitely love to see rowing added to the exercises on my Versa

I am glad adding rowing to the Fitbit exercise selection is under consideration.  I am hopeful that the rowing motion (horizontally movement changing direction) plus heart rate can be easily detected and can result in strokes per minute, heart rate, and calories burned based on heart rate.  I have a Charge 2 and now a Special Edition Charge 3.  I also have a Samsung Gear S2 and S3 which do include rowing as exercise, although I they don't really provide any useful rowing information.

I mostly row on Concept 2 rowers at the gym but I also have a water rower at home.  I would like your solution to allow for a generic "rowing" exercise vs being tied to a specific brand of rower and even allowing for real on-the-water rowing.

I believe that rowing is one of the best overall workouts as it: a) works a large number of muscle groups (arms, core, back, legs), b) is low impact and c) has a very high calorie burn rate.  Closest thing to rowing would be a Versaclimber, which are very hard to find.

Thanks for voting for the rowing!

Well, this idea was submitted almost 4 years ago, and obviously Fitbit has no plans to add the feature to tract additional activities, such as rowing, or cross country skiing.    I am looking for a tracker for my wife that can specifically tract these activities.   Can anyone recommend me a tracker from another manufacturer who offers these activity tracking?  (needs to be android base).   Thank you!

I have a WaterRower at home.  Rowing is my be favorite overall exercise.  It's also the most effective form of exercise. It's works 84% or 86% of the bodys muscles at one time in one workout!

It's also quickly growing in popularity / trend across the US. There are indoor rowing studios opening at a faily quick rate (much like Spin / Stationary Bike Studios have).

I'm surprised it hadn't had happened sooner.

Please add this feature to the Ionic. Fitbit is way behind the curve on this!

I'm strongly considering upgrading to a device that like a Garmin that handles such things.

The current patch of going into the dashboard and editing a "workout" and changing it to "rowing machine" is a pathetic attempt to fix this. It does not properly account for the workout that had actually taken place, thethe amo of energy that is actually expended, or any of the real world activity that occurred.  As well as throwing any benefit from step count way off....   Very sad!

I too have a water rower and really like it. Hopefully some day they will
either do it or tell us why they cant.

You are correct, the Fitbit is useless for tracking rowing (I have the Concept 2 as well).

Since this thread is 3 years old, it's obvious Fitbit has no plans to do anything about it.   Thus if you can get a refund on your Fitbit, I urge you to do so and get the Garmin.   I am stuck with mine (1 year ownership) but will get the Garmin for my wife.

Fitbit any movement on adding rowing to the list of exercises? Was looking to get a concept 2 for Christmas. Running and rowing is a perfect combo.

Nothing specific that I've heard from FitBit but I use the online Logbook
from the Concept 2 site and it syncs perfectly with FitBit (an option you
choose in setting it up). I use the online Logbook for their
"Challenges"-(currently doing their Holiday Challenge, check it out at
Concept2.com)- too so this is an easy fix with my FitBit which I still like
using.....
Good luck!
