Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

That’s an interesting idea and could be useful, thanks for sharing this suggestion.

How could I go and get this implemented ?

People (not just me) have been asking for this for over 3 years, it has really been ignored, it can’t be that hard, surely?

It (the ionic) measure steps when I just wave my arms, pretty daft eh ?

I think indoor rowing (I use a Concept2) is a great aerobic exercise and I try to row every day. I would like to be able connect by Charge 2 Fitbit with my rowing machine or at least know the best way to record indoor rowing as an exercise. I track it right now as "Rowing" but I think Indoor Rowing should be one of those things that's automatically recognized.

Hi Old but active, do you have the pm5 monitor on your concept, if so, use erg data and it can sync your rows to fitbit, you may need to do a concept calory calculator if your not the average rate of a concept user, I do this 5 times a week, message me if you get stuck. Your need to read the link above to get going.

Seems to me the developers would rather put rubbish (Starbucks) on to any Fitbit, they completely missed the boat when they never put rowing as an exercise

my Fitbit will be going back, I’ll buy something that does the job

fitbit have completely ignored me with reference to having rowing

i can’t see me buying another Fitbit when it completely ignore its customers

they have made me so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why hasn’t Fitbit added the concept 2 or rowing to their new fitbits (the ionic and this other one, Versa)

yet they add rubbish like starbucks

cant they stick to fitness and health

people have been asking for 3 years for this

do the developers ever read what people are asking for and want?

If you use the a Concept2 you can go to their online log book
https://log.concept2.com/login and create a profile. On the left side of
the profile set up page you can choose "Applications" and connect to
FitBit, then every time I enter my time, meters (and under notes I put how
many calories I burned), submit that and it will show up on your FitBit
dashboard as exercise. I really like the Concept2 log and have some of my X
# of million meter certificates (to impress my high school students) and
done a few of their "Challenges"- I even have an online "team."
It's fun and I can enter the information right after I row and before I get
ready for work; super fast. And it syncs to FitBit automatically.
I'm sort of sympathetic to the problematic nature of trying to record
rowing on FitBit because just time doesn't reflect the splits, etc.
Somedays I row much further that others, in the same amount of time.
Syncing to the log has really helped me track my exercise better.

@Derrick241 the concept 2 is not justa machine but a company and the connectiomcneeds to be done by them, not Fitbit. As @WaCox has explained Concept has stepped up to fotbitsfchallenge for other companys to connect

Judging by all of the suggestions found in this board that have been addedait looks as if Fitbit does listen.

Have a look at the FAQ

I bought a fitbit(both ionic and a Surge) I didn’t buy a concept 2 rowing machine

all I expected to do was find rowing on there, I try not to use 3 party add on’s,

even though they maybe useful

so no Fitbit aren’t listening, they are still having junk on a fitness watch

having a watch to pay is just does is speak sedative data to even more gadgets, we should be able to disable junk we don’t use/need, all I want is an exercise tracker/watch

Pay was only added at the response of many that voted on the feature request for this. People have been requesting pay since the Blaze was released.

It wasn’t on the blaze, the surge, it appeared on the ionic, it’s not something I would use, should have the ability to delete it, rather than disable it

Been on the Concept 2 website, couldn’t find anything that relates or connects to any Fitbit

I understand what you're saying. I don't have a watch or a heart rate
monitor, just a step counter, so the connection to a third party for the
rowing records works best to me. I'm surprised that your heart rate monitor
doesn't record the exercise benefit, whether it is rowing or an elipitical
or bike, or whatever. But maybe I don't fully understand how a heart rate
monitor works. It is a bummer when things don't meet the expectation they
create....

It is their Log Book but you have to create a profile, and on the left
"list" it is under *Applications*. Good luck.

Just to mention, my ionic now lives in the junk drawer, gone back to my surge, it does nearly all I want it to, not rowing though

Fitbit developers aren’t  my favourite people, they don’t even read what people ask for, moderators don’t even reply to PMs

i have asked concept 2 how to link the rowing machine to my firbit just using the surge now, ionic lives in the junkdraw

Great news. Now I want a Concept 2 to replace my Nordictrack. I have to go to the Concept website to log my workouts, but calculate my splits there at Concept 2 and record my splits in a tablet.

It seems many people have wanted a rowing app....for years now. Would love it.

Please please please add rowing machine (ergometer) to the list of activities in fitbit (Ionic).

The demand for rowing seems high. I just started rowing and too would love it added. I do find it odd that my Charge counts steps when I wash my hands but doesnt pick up rowing at all.

I do a lot of indoor rowing as it’s low impact on my knees but I would love a rowing shortcut, as would many other people in the Fitbit Community. I know the Apple Watch has one. (Sorry) if the fitbit Versa had has I’d be sold and bought one. Heart

While I agree with all the pleas for a rowing option on the Fitbit - and I'm at a loss to understand why they have not implemented it - I'm not wasting time worrying about it.  I just check the "Workout" option and get on with my "workout"

There was the implication that Fitbit would respond to requests, and that the more requests would result in more action. It is frustrating that Fitbit has not chosen to respond to all of the requests. sigh.

It is time to get on with a work out.

That is the option that I use as well. The only problem is I am a step
counting group and they see it as cheating as it credits me with steps

Fitbit needs a rowing machine app.  If you/we have Bike and a Spinning settings for automatic trackers, it would be great to add a single rowing tracker.

you should not feel any guilt on the step front as you are expending just
as much effort.
